Jon Stewart to Host 2008 Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced Wednesday that Stewart will host the 80th awards show February 24 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
Oscar telecast producer Gil Cates described Stewart as smart, quick and funny. He said Stewart loves movies and is a great guy.
Stewart got mixed reviews when he hosted the 78th annual awards. Some jokes fell flat and some critics expected the political satirist to be edgier.
Stewart joked that he is thrilled to be asked for a second time, because the third time is a charm.
Stewart hosts "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" on Comedy Central.
He hosted the Grammy Awards in 2001 and 2002

Better than Ellen, on par with Rock hosting, but still Crystal and Martin are the best Oscar hosts.

But I'm just glad Ellen ain't coming back. Should be funny.

I don't know....I loved Billy Crystal, best ever.....but I think these talk show hosts need to stick with hosting their talk shows.....I didn't like Chris Rock hosting...I enjoyed Ellen .....as well....but I'm really not looking forward to Jon Stewart, I like his take on politics, but I'm REALLY tired of these award shows turning into political platforms......even if I agree with alot they have to say.....I really don't want to hear or see it on an award show.....I can watch the news for that.

I think the biggest problem with having Stewart host the Oscars last time was that he was too much of an outsider to Hollywood. The audience found it hard to laugh last time around because his jokes were aimed at them, for the viewer's pleasure and not their's. Colbert did the same thing when he did his shtick at the White House Reporter's Dinner: the people in the seats were his target, not his audience.

Still, I'm happy to see Stewart get another shot at it. He should be more confident this time around.
