George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Jon Watts Movie Package Ignites Bidding War – The Hollywood Reporter

As the week heads to a close, one of the biggest bidding wars of the year has engulfed Hollywood.

Sony, Lionsgate, Apple, Netflix are all vying for a movie package that has George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts attached. Amazon, Annapurna, Universal, MGM, and Warner Bros. are also said to be in the mix.

Watts will write, direct and produce the thriller with Clooney and Pitt starring. The two A-listers will also produce via their respective production labels, Smokehouse Pictures and Plan B Entertainment.

Much of the details are being kept under wraps but it is understood to tell the tale of two lone wolf fixers assigned to the same job.

The package and bidding war has buyers hot and heavy. Clooney and Pitt, two of the most recognizable names and best friends, last starred on screen together in the Ocean’s 11 movies where they showcased their chemistry. They were also seen in the Coen Bros. movie Burn After Reading. And the resulting deal could see both land paydays of $20 million or higher.

Interesting. Watts hasn’t really done anything besides Spider-Man so curious how he does without the big Marvel machine behind him.

When you direct one of the biggest franchises in the world, I'm sure you'll have a lot of leverage but it'll be interesting to see.

This looks...ok. I don't know, something is missing. Maybe if they both weren't playing the same archetype.

Jon Watts is such an uninspiring director. Slo-motion? Really?

Looks like it can potentially be fun. The chemistry between the stars reminds me of their characters in the Ocean movies.

Really excited for this. Just hope it’s a much better reunion film than Ticket To Paradise. Their chemistry in the Oceans films was great.

With all of these older franchises returning with original cast - seeing another Oceans film bring everyone together would be amazing.

I'm tempted to laugh at this considering I've seen zero poster for this at my local AMCs nor has the trailer ever been shown in any showings I've been to. Fly Me To The Moon got more marketing effort than this.

None of which helped, Fly Me To The Moon.

So the wide theatrical release for this movie has been canceled. It will have a limited theatrical release on 9/20 followed by a streaming drop on 9/27. Can't say I'm mad at the change in strategy, but dayum.

I was wondering why I wasn’t seeing any show times for this.
