Seeing Star Wars' suburbs is very weird, but fun

Neel is everything. SM-33 (Smee?) gets points simply for being Nick Frost. White haired girl can't act for s*** but I still like her. Wim and Fern are terrible, but in that 80's-characters-were-the-worst kinda way, so I'm willing to let them grow into more likeable people.

And Jude Law was definitely the pirate in the cold open, right??

Yeah, I'm not too enthused about the scripts and tone so far. It's a bit more "kiddy" than I would've expected. Amblin's stuff (which this is inspired by) would usually strike a nice balance between childlike imagination and some edge to make it interesting and palatable for adults, as well.

But the creature and pratical effects work is great.

I thought them seeing a brothel on a grimy looking pirate spaceport was pretty edgy for a kids show.. but yeah hopefully Wim grows up a bit and shows some more grit. It's crazy to think he's the same age as the Goonies kids were in '85 when he looks like he's like 8

also, was that Urkel as a space pirate?

Yep exactly. Stranger Things struck the balance much better. Even though it's essentially a horror show, it had it's kiddy moments balanced out by more edgy stuff. Same with the Amblin movies as you mention.

The beginning scene with the Pirates taking the ship didn't feel kid friendly. I still feel this is more a "family" show than essentially a "kids" show.

Found a reason to love the Wolfman, Brutus. He is voiced by Fred Tatasciore aka Shax from Lower Decks.

Episode four, so we’re gonna be getting that next week! Interested to see what they bring to it.

Haven’t really offered my thoughts on the first two episodes yet, but I really enjoyed them, and am excited to see where the next six episodes go.

It’s not Andor, but it is most definitely better than most of the SW shows on Disney+.

That stop motion crab monster looks insane! And they brought Phil Tippett back to do it! And it looks like all of the shots where SM-33 isn’t doing any action stuff it’s a puppet controlled by a puppeteer they just edited out. And the animatronics for Neel’s character are great!

This series really is a labor of love for everyone involved.

I caught to episode 3 and that last episode was the first one I really enjoyed. I didn't hate the first 2 but they were very kiddy to me. Not that the kids are bad actors or anything I just couldn't vibe with it.

I was kind of wondering that myself. You’re right, there’s been zero buzz since release. But then I don’t know what that means in terms of appealing to a younger audience. I guess comparison for Disney will be how it plays against something like Percy Jackson in terms of views.
