Jonah Hex and Slavery

Has the question of Jonah Hex's service to an army defending slavery, and how he could condone a government that was predicated largely on the enslavement and oppression of nonwhite peoples, ever been answered? Not to excuse the Union, of course, but how could Hex have fought for slavery? Did he believe it was right? Or did he just not care?
 
Hex never fought for Slavery. He fought for the South becoming independant of the Union. He's shown in the past that he has a great deal of contempt for racists. And to answe the question that I know is coming (Why did he fight for the South when he knew racism was a big part of what the Confederates were fighting for?), he probably realized what alot of people realized since then and more than a few realized back then: Slavery is in fact far worse for the economy than payed labor, and would have died out in the South eventually anyway
