*Sigh*, you're right. The old Tim Burton would be wonderful. The current Burton would phone it in.

I would say the last movie that he really stretched himself with was Big Fish, though Sweeny Todd was nice.Visually, it would be nice but the he has lost his creative spark 10 years ago. Despite the crazy visuals, the direction of his current movies have been dull and strangely standard.
I grew up watching Pee-Wee's Playhouse as i'm sure a lot of you guys did but I think it's just too late to try to resurrect this character. I saw Reubens as Pee-Wee on Conan about six months ago but I just don't see him being popular again.
I could easily be wrong of course but I just think this is a bad idea. It seems like something that should have been a DTV movie as opposed to a theatrical release.
Did you not hear about the hype and praise he got for his Live Show in LA. It was popular that he's taking the show to Broadway. People love him, or at least the response thus far has been really high.
I just looked at a article and it said Reuben isn't even gonna be Pee Wee, but the kid who was the main Lead In I love you, Bet Cooper. But Reuben is still writing it.

If Reubens is not playing his iconic character, nobody is going to care. However, I do think at the end of the day, Pee Wee Herman will be played by Reubens. I'm thinking Rust will be in a secondary role of some kind.
of course, don't expect Lawrence Fishburne back as Cowboy Curtis.
Are you ready to trade in Phil Hartman and Tim Burton for Paul Rust and Judd Apatow? Because that's what's happening.Rust and Apatow, along with Paul Reubens, are developing a new big screen adventure for Reubens' signature character, Pee Wee Herman.Once one of the biggest figures in cult comedy, Reubens' fall from the peak - thanks to some unsavory details of his personal life being made public - was pretty epic but he's been making a slow and steady return largely by leaving his comic roots behind and taking on small character parts.
What do you think? Is the world ready for the return of Pee Wee? Or, more to the point, will anybody still care?
