Jurassic World - Part 5

What stood out to me, as far as safety concerns go, is that the monorail apparently goes over the mosasaur tank. Couldn't it snap that thing up if it wanted to?

if it wanted to sure, but i've never seen an aquatic animal deliberately destroy anything... they seem to just sorta move out of obstacles way.. i guess it depends on it's intelligence level?

I often wondered if flipping things around a bit might work. Instead of having people be the ones in danger have it so the dinosaurs are the ones in trouble, have some type of virus infect the island which starts killing the species off - a second extinction. That would give justification for people to revisit the island again to try and find the cause and cure in an attempt to save the dinosaurs. 'Jurassic Park: Extinction' or something along those lines.

that's what i was thinking too.. i think you could possibly (and it'd be pushing it) but possibly, get some of the old crew back, especially Ellie and Grant who respect nature and do have sympathy for the animals, if they were to either A) be dying or B) in danger of being eradicated by INgen.

I think the threat would be better served to come from nature, harkening back to when the species was first eradicated 65m years ago.

oh i don't disagree, but when your park kills tourists, and the full arm of the law comes down on you.... they're likely going to demand they be put down

That's true. I think there would be justification and support for the island/s being exterminated. I'm not sure how that you build a film around that though.

it'd likely be more about executioners vs environmentalists. I'd imagine the theme from the protagonists would be "no, you made your bed, lie in it" maybe INgen found a way to cover it up? and decided to destroy the dinos so no proof could be found? maybe the dinos carry a plaque that not only effects them, but effects humans too?

There's also the fact that the dinosaurs in JP/JW are the only ones that exist in the world. There would be a lot of opposition to (re)wiping out whole species. Then there'd be the ones who say they're not real dinosaurs in the first place, but man made, destructive creatures. It would be a very complicated issue.

Dunno, I'm not sure how you get people on the islands other than being protesters, who would have to be the stupidest protesters on the planet lol.

And a very interesting one at that.

Which is why you'd probably get a great story out of it :yay:

oh there's certainly people who'd go to the island and chain themselves to a tree trying to protect them. even if it meant they'd be basically sitting food...

I think I may have a marathon sometime this weekend.

Michael Crichton's other novel "Next" is a good place to draw ideas from for this franchise. It's all about genetic engineering and the question of whether or not such creatures (or people) created from the experiments have rights or not.

:up::up::up:

yeah i think that's honeslty where the franchise should go next. conservationism and ethics on creating life.

It's strange, I like the concepts behind this movie, and I like the cast/crew involved, but the aesthetics are kind of killing it for me at the moment. Maybe once the CGI gets a little more polished it won't be such an issue, but right now it just looks SO CG-heavy and, I dunno, shiny that it feels barely related to the original to me. I'll still be there opening day, but I'd be lying if I said this trailer wasn't a little disappointing to me.

I'm right here with you.
My early childhood consisted of endless rewatches of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park, I will pay whatever they want to be able to watch this movie the second it comes out, but I would be lying if I said this trailer didn't make me slightly more apprehensive than excited. You hit the nail on the head with the "shiny, CG-driven" aesthetic of it that is slightly putting me off.
A friend of mine sent me the trailer and the first thing I said was, "some of that CG needs polishing".

I think this looks fun. Plenty of time to finish the cgi,at least I hope that's the case. Watched SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED for the first time today. Really good film and gives me hope for this even though their very different films.

Just saw the trailer! :mrk:Not only does it give me nostalgia feels but I thought it was perfectly paced and the film looks genuinely like an exciting continuation of the story.

Glad you liked it and are excited Hunter. :woot:

Yeah It took me right back to the original....I have been watching it a lot lately. I'm pretty excited about this movie to say the least. I hope it's not a let down

Well, our lives have been one big lie for 20 years, the Velociraptor in the films isn't actually a Velociraptor. :shock:waa:

Well to be fair the things in these films arent actual Dinosaurs either. They've got frog dna in them. And the films arent specific to the Jurassic period or any other period for that matter. The spino and t-rex for instance were separated by 30 million years. And the raptor's arent accurate at all. So if they can bend all that and more I see no reason to not include some sabre toothed tigers. Id love to see some of those in a JP film.

That could actually be an area where the franchise could branch out. Other parks with other creatures from other periods.
Good points. And it would be a good way of doing something quite different before going into hybrid territory.

I believe one of the viral things mentioned B.D. Wong's character was looking to branch out into Ice Age mammals.
Great!!

Life is better as a lie!

I've read loads of Michael Crichton books but never even heard of this one. Sounds like an interesting concept.

It's one of my personal favorites of his. Raises a lot of moral issues, and it kind of sounds like the D-Rex in this film is an example of the "chimera" that was explored in that book.
