I'm interested in getting into Spiderman comics. Which regular issues are there, and which one would best suit a noob like me?

Also, would you mind giving me a run down on current continuity of these issues, thanks.:cwink:

Honestly, you have three choices:

1) Read Spidey from the beginning. Hunt down the Essentials, and check those out, and enjoy the classics by Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, John Romita Jr, Gerry Conway, Ross Andru, and the rest of the greats. Enjoy it. You'll see Peter Parker grow, change, mature, and then you'll get to a storyline entitled One More Day. That'll lead you to Brand New Day. Then you'll curse everyone for getting you into Spider-Man comics in the first place.

2) Read Spidey from the beginning....of Brand New Day. These issues are fairly easy to come by, none of them are really expensive, and the trades and hardcovers can be hunted down with ease (and on the cheap) on Amazon or ebay. You can enjoy the stories, and, having not read the history that they now have to ignore, you won't be the least bit angry. Ignorance may be bliss. Lots of good storytellers, but even those who like the new direction will tell you that it's kind of hit and miss.

3) Read Ultimate Spidey. It's good, it's fun, and the character is still pretty fresh. However, with rumors of the Ultimate Line being done away with, it looks like this may not be the road you should choose. Still, it's fun, the trades are cheap and easy to find, and the whole series has been pretty solid. Also, it's only had one writer.

That's it. Pick your poison.

Also, you xan always read Spider-Girl, which is better than all of the above, aside from Amazing Spider-Man ( in the beginning).

Mitthrawnuruodo(what a namemonster:)),you should know that Essentials are in black & white. But, in January, Marvel will start publishing thinner and coloured books called Marvel Masterworks. Essentials and Masterworks have exact same stories, but Essential has more stories per book.

BTW, if you like the work of Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale, you should buy a graphic novel Spider-Man: Blue. It has six issues and it re-tells some events of old Spidey comics. Previous knowledge of Spider-Man isn't essential( pun intended).

Just read invincible instead and save yourself.

EVERYONE should read Invincible, as it is the best superhero comic out there.

There is none higher, and that has been scientifically proven.:o

This page Spider-man Biography should help you some on Spider-man continuity.

I don't know if anybody else mentioned this ,but I believe Spider-man monthly books are now only one book the Amazing Spider-man. Now it comes out like 3 times every month. They've discontinued all other Spidey books in the main stream Marvel universe.

Here's what I would do: Start from the beginning and end with some stories that came out 1987; the marriage issue (Amazing Annual 21) and Kraven's Last Hunt. Personally I now prefer to think of the marriage as a nice conclusion of the Spider-Man saga. The 21 years since then hasn't brought anything I would consider a "must read".
