I know, we already have a director for the reboot (Webb) but I believe that if we want Spider-Man done right, talk to JOSS. Sure he's directing The Avengers and rewriting the script for The First Avenger: Captain America, however if there's someone who can revitalize the Web-Slinger, Whedon's your go-to guy.

Here's a list of things that Joss can bring to the table:

  • Dramedy- Joss is known for creating a mix of drama and dry, caustic wit. That would mine the emotional core of the character. As Peter Parker, he's a troubled individual who struggles to fight to atone to his life's one, great mistake, but as Spider-Man, he's a carefree, happy-go-lucky figure who exacts more enjoyment from life than he ever does as Peter.
  • Strong, female characters- Joss' forte when it comes to epics. Problem is, there aren't much butt-kicking girls in Parker's supporting cast (aside from Black Cat). So make them have great inner and emotional strength. For example, use the Ultimate version of Aunt May (strong, independent mother figure). Another way is to give Mary Jane a sense of strength while being a damsel in distress. Or for female butt-kickers: Black Cat, Jessica Jones, Firestar and Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew).
  • emotional compelling action sequences
  • giving characters their "moments"
  • big time superheroics, big time action, big time characters
To make it simple: Whedon + Superhero flick= FANBOY APPROVAL! Not to mention he's knows Marvel (See his run of Astonishing X-Men and Runaways). If he can make a show about a girl fighting vampires a success, imagine what he can do for a franchise with Peter Parker in high school while fighting crime as the Web-Slinger, Spider-Man.

Whedon's would- be cast for the reboot is coming soon!

Oh, please God no.

Joss Wheadons' level of suckage is galactic in scope. Hawking, Einstein and Emmett Brown would be unable to calculate it even if they had Data to help them out.

I'd just as soon not have him anywhere near any Marvel character.

I mean, I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer a few times. I felt brain cells die. And don't get me started on the musical episode. That was a crime against culture.

Buffy is one of the best shows(and for me IS the best shows) ever.

Whedon has a talent to work with whitty, funny characters with a serious tone. Very much like Spider-Man

Kid, what the **** are you talking about?

Buffy and Firefly are two of the finest mainsteam sci-fi shows TV has ever had. He also wrote the screenplays to Toy Story and Speed.

Whedon is NOT perfect but you're post makes absolutley no sense.

I've become convinced that, 20 years from now, when the kids who watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer catch reruns of the show they will say to themselves 'What the hell was I thinking?'
My God, was that show awful. And Angel was even worse. Terrible dialogue, cardboard characters and silly plots.
And I reiterate, the musical episode was a Crime Against Culture.
Now Firefly was, I admit, a different situation. Firefly had good characters, good actors (You can't go wrong with Adam Baldwin) and a sense of fun. It's the one thing Wheadon did that I enjoyed, and I think it's a shame that it was never given a chance to find an audience.
One of the things that really sucks about being a GenXer is the 3 people from my generation that have made the most lasting contributions to pop culture are overrated hacks like Kurt Cobain, Kevin Smith and Joss F**king Wheadon. It's depressing.

gentlemen, go die.:whatever:

All I know from whedon is Firefly and his run on Xmen and I must say this guy really knows how to make a story. Hes talented for sure.

You don't have to, the title is just a play on words for "Just Imagine Stan Lee Creating..." series for DC Comics.

But still, I believe Whedon should do Spider-Man.

I don't. His idea of emotional impact is building up two characters relationship... then when it appears they will finally be together... he kills one of them off.

And he tries to hard to be hip and cool with his writing, instead of letting it come naturally.

Joss Whedon

He balances humor and story well. I think he'd make a great Spider-Man film.

I wouldn't count on Cuaron's or anyone like that doing the film. Nor a Cameron. I think they;ll go smaller, and Whedon I think is small time enough to land it.

Joss Whedon would get the action perfect. Plenty of great action sequences in all his shows.

He's the perfect guy for Spider-Man in a way. Humor, lighthearted moments, peppered with dark moments, plenty of action.

Spider-Man's his style.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer the show basically was what Spider-Man should be. Total balance of comedy, horror, action and drama. He actually is one of the few that can have characters bust out quips in mid-fight and not have it be goofy.

These guys think Whedon's awesome.

My Whedon-esqe cast coming soon!

I never wanted Whedon near any comicbook movie. He reuses the same actors in everything he does, which gets annoying after a while.

I like Whedon, Buffy is one of my 3 favourite tv series and i even read the season 8 comics, he knows how to make teenager stories, but the new director also knows how to do that. The only comic book movie i am sad because whedon didn´t do it is Wonder Woman, that tipe of film is whedon´s speciality.
Thanks for telling me that whedon is rewrithing captain america´s script, i became afraid because it has a bad director but if the story is made by whedon then there is hope. You know what combination it would be funny to see?
Twilight directed by John Carpenter.
I hate Twilight but if Carpenter made it with thw purpose of being trully scary then it would be much greater.

Joss Whedon would definitly do the death of Gwen Stacy since he loves killing people off.

And yeah I think Joss Whedon is a GENIUS, he creates real, memorable characters and makes every one have a distinct humor.

I would always like to know what he would do with a big budget but I don't know how he would tackle Spider-Man.

It could be interesting though.

Whedon is quite possibly the most overrated writer/director in Hollywood.

It sucks he got Avengers. Thank God Spidey was spared.

Say all you want about Joss Whedon, but don't diss Kurt Co-****ing-bain, thats my nikka:hrt:

Yet he was far more talented than you'll ever be.

Funny how that works. :woot:

Hahaha, I'm sorry I'm in college instead of making God-awful music and taking drugs?

His lyrics were moronic, Nirvana as a band was idiotic and that whole phase of music was just disappointing.

Edit: Nevermind...won't go into more detail on Cobain, lol. It'll be a waste of time, really.

Why all the Whedon hate? He is truely one of the best writer/directors of our generation IMO so I gotta wonder what some of you are smokin in this peice...

You probably didn't understand the lyrics if you thought they were moronic. What was idiotic about Nirvana "as a band"? and there was nothing disappointing from the alternative music from the 90's. Music has mostly sucked since then. Just corporate jingles by soulless sell outs.

You know one of my pet hates on forums is when people make ridiculous statements like these.

Saying that you don't like someone's style of writing/directing or saying that the shows they have created aren't your taste, is fine. The nice thing about the shows that I like is that they are a very specific style, very different and therefore not designed to be enjoyed by EVERYBODY.

But suggesting that people who watch it will eventually come to their senses is undermining.

Suggesting that Joss Whedon's characters are cardboard shows that you have absolutely no understanding of characterisation as a whole - or you have simple never given Buffy a chance in hell to prove the complexity of it's characters too you.

I mean we are talking about some of the most involved personalities i've ever come across. I know these characters better than I know some of my friends, in that I understand them and their actions and how they behave. They are extremely developed, changing from the first episode they appear in to the last in such interesting and experimental ways.

Each one is entirely unique, and Joss is the most talented director i've ever encountered at handling large casts and giving all them equal time to grow and show themselves.

Finally, Joss Whedon doesn't try to be anything. He just natural writes in this way... it's his sense of humour, it's the way he plays with his words... and I absolutely love it.

When you compare the dialogue, banter or style of writing in Buffy to say Dollhouse, you can see that he's not forcing anything. That show, if dissapointing to some, only showed me that he doesn't force himself to write in the same style just to please the fans... each of his ideas has it's own style, while still be indetifiyable as one of his products.

The man is an auter, a respected proffesional, but he is certainly not overrated. He hasn't gotten much recognition from the general public, who most of the time when i mention him, haven't got a clue who i'm talking about.

The fact that you have decided you HATE buffy and angel, despite admitting that you haven't seen more than a few episodes, has clearly clouded your ability to make a decent point.

And like one bunny rabbit once said,' if you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all'.
