Justice League Justice League: News and Speculation - Part 1

The only hope with all the "Creative Exec" business is if they get a director who'll state exactly what he wants and who they respect so much that everyone will back off and let him do his thing.

I don't mind if they are trying to figure out scenarios, trying out different superheroes with subsequent drafts. But without a director of course they would be rudderless and be throwing out ideas left and right, like bringing in Joseph Gordon Levitt, or what to do about Bale's Batman, or Ryan Reynold's Green Lantern.

One of the main problems we saw with the GL movie was that Martin Campbell, though a seasoned director, didn't have a strong vision or affinity for the source material. So everyone else came in with their opinions, from how the suit should look, how Parallax should look, the toy marketing tie-ins etc. There just wasn't a singular voice i.e. the director guiding that project. That was obviously the main lesson from GL (that WB should've learnt.)

The ideas being suggested are cringeworthy.

That could be anything from the Joseph Gordon Levitt idea, to separate continuities again like "Mortal" or some other way to keep the teamup movie separate from the solo movies. Again, this shows that they are still in this uncertain stage because there is no director.

The final 7 members of the JUSTICE LEAGUE members are not locked down yet.

That's all El Mayimbe is really saying. Why would there be a set team if they haven't even found a director yet. And the last we heard Will Beall the writer had only handed in his first draft. El Mayimbe basically is saying that cosmicbooknews is jumping the gun because it is too early in the process to be certain of the line-up.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the JL movie is pushed back to 2016. I mean, it happened to GL and Man of Steel. They didn't make their initial release dates.

The Nerdist podcast is right in saying that middle management in Hollywood (Creative Execs) is a long, counter-initiutive process can violate and water down a potentially cool script.

I also think that if creative execs like this one, who is ignorant to geek culture, is on his/her way out in a few years when Generation Y takes their positions. It may take a few decadeds, but like what '21 Jump Street' said: We live in a geek culture. If you get anyone from 'Gen Y' or newer, they have grown up with video games, etc as if it's a normal part of life and not a niche thing.

If Bale were to return, a story could be fairly easy to create:

Blake begins his career as Robin/Nightwing/Batman whatever. Speaks to Gordon about other vigilantes rising in other cities and needing "his" help. Leaving it ambiguous as to who.

We see a man walking through a fairly low key city. The camera revolves to reveal Clark Kent, who says "I'm a big fan of your work, Mr.... Malone? Is it?"

"Please call me Bruce"

Bruce can then be shown to have in his home a memento style wall with him revealed to have been following the recent uprising of heroes, and believes he has deciphered their identities. But is reluctant to return to active duty until Blakeman is injured.

Heeeeeyyy...someone else in here has those creative juices flowing?

Nice!

So slightly off topic.....is anyone okay with the idea of Batman's JL suit being a power suit? You know like the one in DC universe online and/or The Dark knight returns?I think it wld be cool as we actually have Batmn fighting on par with the Justice league-but it may veer to Ironman territory

Yeah, or like Owl Man's was in Crisis on Two Earths.I'd be for it, but nothing heavy duty like Ironman stuff. Something more low-key, like that leg brace he had in TDKR.

Exactly.I think it wld be cool if the Bats suit cld hack and link up to every computer in the world kinda like Cyborg.-Of course that wld make Cyborg redundant to use in a JL movie-I can live with that :oldrazz:

Come to think of it Bales Batman cld actually work in a JL movie if he had this kinda suit

No disrespect towards anyone of course, but I just can't understand on why anyone would think that Bale would come back to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne.

Bale has made it pretty clear that "The Dark Knight Rises" was his last film playing the role; even went on to say that he had to take a few moments alone when the time came for him to say goodbye towards wearing the costume as well. Bale doesn't come across as a guy that would sell out or go back on his word.

I mean, I get it; he made a great Batman, regarded as the best version of the character for a lot of people that I've seen. However, considering that Nolan's last film was made with the intent of concluding the journey's character, I just can't see why some can't just let it go and let it end.

I'd rather have a franchise end on a good note than have it come back and end on a bad one when it had the chance to go out with grace. It's like whenever a old wrestler comes back to perform and relive his legacy, despite the fact that he's in no position towards putting on a match that reaches anywhere near his caliber on when he was in his prime.

Another note; like some have suggested, I'd go with replacing Hal with John Stewart if it were possible since Green Lantern was so bad for me that I'd hate the idea of actually bringing the events of his film as canon for the DC Film Universe.

I'm personally not the kind of guy that likes to settle for things and I sure as hell wouldn't want to settle for Ryan's Green Lantern, just because it was made. They can do so much better; hell it's like them using Brandon's Superman instead and thus having the events of SR and its word be included as canon to the JLA film Universe.

Also, if MOS is truly the launch board for the JLA franchise and any spin off solos and trilogies for its other members, then I hope that they keep to the tone established in MOS; where heroes showing up in the public, especially the super powered ones aren't as easily accepted as they would be on a Saturday Morning Cartoon.

This film shouldn't aspire to copy or be like "The Avengers"; it should aspire to be BETTER, to offer something different; otherwise it'll just end up being a carbon copy of that film, but with only different characters. They should aim at making a film that will stand out on its own and not be remembered as a DC copy of Marvel's hit film.

Watch Rocky Balboa :P Good film.

Yeah. Great post, Herolee.

That would be very cool for Batman's suit.
Cyborg can do that, but he also has more heavy-duty technology than Batman if they decide to use him... But I'd rather they didn't.

That's the way I think the JL film will go, like how MOS is shaping up to me.

I don't want JL to be a carbon copy of Avengers and it's campiness, where these superpowered beings are all accepted.

That's also one of the reasons I don't want too many JL characters introduced in the first film. Superman, Batman, WW, GL, Flash and maybe Martian Manhunter. I think Aquaman can be teased at the end of the 1st JL film and saved for the sequel. I just want a tighter, more compelling, emotional, yet fun action packed film.

well, bale for one has said he'd come back if nolan thought there was another story worth telling, so yeah.

So I've been going back and forth as to how WB/DC can work the Dark Knight world into the new JLA world. I feel it would be too much of a shame to have separate worlds, both that are equally strong and intriguing.

They need to attack their single world like Marvel is. DC is succeeding at TV with the new Arrow show, do not recast him in the films with a new character. I would start by offering Bale a ton of money to return as Batman. He doesn't have to operate out of Gotham, but I think it would be a shame to not bring him back.

I would then not forget about Catwoman. Fans and Hathaway have expressed genuine excitement for her separate movie. I would spin her story off and draw from Catwoman: When In Rome. In her movie, I would have JGL be Nightwing, not Batman. Also, I would introduce Green Arrow from the TV series as a cameo, just for continuation and it would be exciting. By expanding into a Catwoman movie and bringing Green Arrow from the series into the films it would expand the universe.

For Justice League, obviously have Bale's Batman. It would be a great dynamic to see his sternness and rigidity have to work with others. Through sequels, maybe even bring in Green Arrow (Stephen Amell). I could see in the first Justice League film them have the Female Furies, that would be great for action and all around excitement. I would also like to see Desaad, Granny Goodness and Kalibak. This would once again expand the universe and show more characters. I hope they steer away from what Green Lantern did and work with more practical effects and prosthetics. It looked great in the Hellboy films, I don't understand why it wouldn't work in these films. I hope they choose actors not for their namesake (Halle Berry). I hope they actually choose them for their appropriateness and their ability to fit the role.

I hope DC/WB sees what worked for The Avengers and what didn't. I know I may get flack for this, but I like Green Lantern better than The Avengers. Avengers just seemed so childish with no sense of danger. The ending was drawn out and some of the characters were silly and ridiculous (Black Widow, Hawkeye). The alien enemy was clunky and not interesting. By introducing specific characters like the Furies and other of Darkseid's minions, this would be more memorable and interesting.

I for one am pumped to see how this plays out and I feel DC/WB are finally getting the hint of the severity of their decisions. Don't throw things together that are successful when separate, but fail when put combined.

See this is how I think the Justice League movie should play out. To be honest basically just like the first 6 issues of the new 52 comic.

Open up on Batman chasing a parademon on the roof tops of gotham (they can change it up if Bale comes back maybe the roof tops of rome) don't have every thing be the same like the goverment not knowing of superheros.
I think they should open the movie with characters we have already seen on the screen, that's why opening with Batman then GL being the second character of the JL we see would work.
Just my thought though

Finally, some progress on JL. I hope Mayimbe has a big scoop at the end of the week... like who's circling the project or who's slated to return.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the JL movie is pushed back to 2016. I mean, it happened to GL and Man of Steel. They didn't make their initial release dates.

Both were only pushed back six months. If the same holds true for JL (summer 2015 to early 2016), then a spring 2016 date is in the cards.

Or they can pounce on May 2016 while they can, before Marvel decides to schedule Captain America 3 or Thor 3 for that spot.

I hope DC/WB sees what worked for The Avengers and what didn't. I know I may get flack for this, but I like Green Lantern better than The Avengers. I'm sorry but I just can't take this comment seriously.

Because everything you just described about Avengers...occurred with Green Lantern. Except Green Lantern literally fails at almost everything it sets out to accomplish.

You know you're right, GL is childish, but I cannot stand seeing Black Widow wrap her legs around an alien's head for the 8th time in a row or see her shoot her pop guns in that ridiculous manner. We get it, it was cool in Iron Man 2. I can't stand watching Hawkeye shoot without looking or even run out of arrows. None of them really even received any form of physical damage, hell none of them even had ear pieces to hear each other.

For some reason I find Green Lantern more watchable for multiple viewings while Avengers was one and done. My opinion every fanboy blows his wad over The Avengers simply because of the build up. Yes, it was an impressive build up and they did a great job at it, but I feel the entire time the team could have done anything and the fans would have loved it. Just for the fact it's the Avengers.

LOL...GL was horrible to look at. I enormously enjoy the Avengers......twice.

I've watched Green Lantern a countless amount of times. I watched Avengers one and a half times and that's more than enough. I'm a unique little snowflake.

I think the Legends mini series would be great to base the movie off of. It could take place on earth and it can be tied to Darkseid without actually having him show up in the first movie. It would be a really interesting story having the citizens turning against the heroes with Darkseid plotting everything.

Considering that it's likely that there won't be any other solo films for any other solo heroes, other than Superman's one, going into this film, one of the things that they had better be smart about is how to get audiences to care about every other hero that's introduced for the first time to GA and fans alike in this film.

And it definitely won't be easily, especially when you'll have to introduce the new version and actor portraying Batman within less than a half decade's worth since we last saw Bale play the role (a role that he had played for three successful films); we'll also have to introduce a new Green Lantern only a few years after the disaster that was Ryan Reynolds's film; and we'll have to introduce Wonder Woman, a character that's been struggling to get both a TV Show and a film of her own and someone who many have said would be the trickiest to pull off in a live action format within the modern era.

I really think the director will be 'make' or 'break' point of the JL film. But a good director can only do so much if the creative personnel (producers, studio execs) aren't behind his/her vision or want something completely different.

Apparently, Legendary used their pay-or-play contract clause to force Dan Lin and Roy Lee out of Godzilla, with no on-screen credit or backend deals.

http://www.deadline.com/2013/01/god...dary-battles-roy-lee-and-dan-lin/#more-397923

I have a feeling Legendary won't be involved if JL gets the greenlight and a start date (and Village Roadshow will co-finance after Legendary's deal expires). Didn't a similar thing happen with GL when Legendary was initially involved?
