Justice League Justice League: News and Speculation - Part 1

I'd be all for Jane Goldman's involvement...in a Power Girl cameo.

Hahahaha @protocida

Ultimatehero made some good points, but my personal preference is to reboot Batman in JL, use John Stewart or recast, and keep Henry Cavill. I love JGL as an actor, I wish he played Dick Grayson, I'd be on board with him as Batman, but not a made up character for the movies like Blake. If JGL werent Blake in TDKR I would like the idea of him playing Bruce Wayne
JGL would have better been serve as the Riddler.

As said, Green Lantern fans wouldn't like what I have to say. But it was the kind of performance that would have and most likely did get somebody fired.

So, other than saying "you're wrong." Show me one thing that shows people liked the Green Lantern film or that it had a good box office run? Just one thing.

If it's financial patterns...

The Amazing Spider-Man made less money than Spider-Man 3.
Wolverine made less money than X-Men 3.
X-Men: First Class made less money than Wolverine.
Ghost Rider 2 made less money than Ghost Rider 1.
Batman Begins most likely made less money than Batman & Robin when inflated.

Green Lantern 2 would quite clearly and quite obviously make less money than Green Lantern 1.

And if Green Lantern 1 was considered to have done really poorly at box office? It's sequel would be the titanic. GL is no different from every other hero out there. In fact, currently, on film - he's worse than a lot.

As said - executives would run away the other way at even the mention of Green Lantern 2. No other heroes they wouldn't do that for because they have no idea yet what they can bring in at box office.

-----------

As said, the only logical explanation would be that they're keeping everything in-film universe. It is what makes Green Lantern a logical choice. That he has a prior film made about him and that JLA will be based around all these characters having had prior films.
I agree...GLII practically or finacially, doesn't make much sense, and the studio and investors will not risk shooting a sequel in this BO climate in Hollywood, nor the overall economy.

With that said...I thought it was stated that Cavil's Superman would be the starting point for an eventual JL film. That means, previous incarnations of both GL & Bats will not continue in this universe being started by Cavil's Superman. So it's a mute point. They are not going to push JGL as the new Batman; and, Ryan is done. They are going to recast Bats, and create a new world that will fit into this ensemble universe they are starting with Supes; as well as, a carryover for solo films. Jon Stewart will become the GL and the new universe. Strong, I'm sad to say, like Dylan Baker, will never get to reprise his role as the lead villain.

Now, if they were to reprise Ryan role as Hal in GL...I don't think it would be in GLII, it would most likely be as cameos in a Supes, and maybe a WW film, if it ever get off the ground. In order to re-introduce Ryan's GL to the public, without risking capital on a sequel. Depending on how he is received in cameos and as one of the leads in the ensemble film, would determine if WB are willing to move forward with a sequel. Keep in mind...Ryan's stock(BO appeal/films) has been sliding.

Honestly, I think JL will simply be Supes, Bats, and, WW, contending with a different threat...with MM as a human, reconning these three before revealing himself and warning them of Darkseid(don't think he will be in the first...think his name is just being used to gain interest in the project). I think they will hold off GL til later and re-introduce him as Jon Stewart and bring in Flash in JL sequel. Aquaman may have to wait or will never see the big screen...he may however be either hinted at in a WW film or have cameos as a second tier hero like a Hawkman.

We don't know that. I would agree with Ultimatehero, the studio is going with keeping costs low on JL actor-wise... it would be a lot more expensive to buy out an existing contract in order to recast someone.

Reynolds and Strong are considered the best things about GL, as hated as it may be, and it would be cheaper to bring them on. The potential to revive GL as a franchise is too tempting of a possibility (should JL get made and it turns out decent or better).

Latino Review's scoop makes it clear that GL will be part of the main lineup... and Beall's script includes Hal (at least in his first drafts). If that doesn't indicate a return, then I don't know what is.

Hopefully Kevin Tsujihara becoming CEO of WB will stop all the infighting and jockeying for position within the company.

Well someone just got themselves added to the Bleeding Cool Power List.

After a long and tortuous battle of the senior execs, Kevin Tsujihara has been named the new Warner Bros CEO.

Given the strength of the TV unit, many expected it would be Rosenblum. Robinov wasn’t expected, he didn’t so much fit in with future of the company as “trans-media.” But will they create a special gig for Robinov in the next few weeks or he leaves around Oscar time.

Kevin used to be ex-DC Publisher and President Paul Levitz’ go-to guy at Warners before the reorganisation as DC Entertainment. He respects the company and its assets and trusts the gatekeepers, though whether he considers rival Warners exec DC President Diane Nelson as one of them, is yet to be measured…

But basically, DC is safe in his hands. For now.

Jeff Robinov was also vying for the job and he was against any DC adaptation, so we can already consider ourselves lucky.

hopefully this new CEO sets up competent individuals in charge of DC films

Should be interesting if this really has any significant effect on DC-related films.

I think they were all jockeying for the CEO position, so the fighting should stop now that one has been appointed.

I wonder if Tsujihara will be more accommodating for less seasoned directors like Alan Horn was. Seems like a lot of the problems with movies like GL was Jeff Robinov's fault, due to his greenlight authority and dumbing down good scripts prior to shooting.

But if Robinov jumps ship for a position at Universal, taking his relationships with him (like Snyder, Nolan and Eastwood)... it'll look bad for WB.

According to Variety, WB's waiting to see how MoS does before officially moving ahead with JL.

Stakes are high for "Man of Steel." Other than Nolan's Batpics, Warners has not been able to effectively exploit the DC library. Its 2011 "Green Lantern" underperformed, and a "Justice League" film wouldn't likely be in theaters before 2015, as Warner's top brass has indicated that they are awaiting the results of "Man of Steel," which opens June 14, before moving further ahead.
If that's the case, then I can't wait for JL... because MOS is going to dominate this summer. Then again, it should have been common sense that WB was waiting on MOS results.

The irony in all of this is that whether MOS succeeds or not, it seems like we won't get a MOS sequel right away or at least one before a JLA film happens since if MOS succeeds..then off to JLA..and if it doesn't succeed..then no JLA or MOS sequel.

Man of Steel needs is more pressure placed upon it.

So basically if we ever want to see a Justice League movie or any other DC Superhero solo flicks outside of Batman everyone and there mother better go see Man Of Steel.

So basically if you wanna see JLA go see MOS. I've said this before and I'll say it again, whether its Ghost Rider or TDK we as a community NEED to go see any comic movie that comes out if we wanna keep seeing them get made. I saw GL knowing it would be awful but these movies are made for us first and foremost so we need to insure the studios that we are showing up good or bad just like we do for bad runs on the comics. So even if your on the fence about MOS just go because if you don't your just hurting the genre. If Marvel continues to dominate people will start to stop showing because they'll know that even if they don't come in as many droves the movies will still come. Marvel needs competition to thrive lets give them that with a good turn out for MOS.

Me handing over money to see a film depends on it being good. Sorry, I love my comics, but I don't like average super hero movies.
