You are comparing actor with character ?

Bale can be replaced by other actor as Bruce Wayne and the Batman stories can continue without a reboot.

And Arkham Asylum style batman movie is a bad idea, as it will make Batman too much dependent on tech and gadgets, like Brosnan's Bond.

Since Eradicator mentioned Snyder possibly doing a TDKReturns with Bale years after JL, Im actually thinking of something myself. Since they could do a great adaptation of Part 2 (TDKReturns) but not Part 1 since a good chunk of it was spread out through Rises...my concept is of this..

A 2 hr 35/40 minute movie directed by Snyder starring Bale. When he's around 50. The first 20 minutes is Bruce Wayne, Gordon, set ups, etc. The next hour is a loose adaptation of Arkham Asylum, and the last half of the film is a loose adaptation of the 2nd half of TDKReturns.

In animation, each part of Returns was about an hour and 15 minutes so it lines up nicely.

It could make for one bad place of a film if Bale comes back to JL and Snyder then wants to do something with Bale. I would combine Arkham and Part 2 of TDKReturns, while making some adjustments for a new experience for fanboys.

The first half he's locked in a place where you have the likes of Riddler, Penguin, Ivy, Harley, Black Mask, Croc, Clayface, Scarecrow. The second half he's out of there and he has to deal with Joker and Superman. Perhaps Gotham looks at Batman as their hero but the U.S government don't see it that way after the events of the JL.

Anyways im just hoping they announce at comic-con that JL is in the works and theyre going to use TDKT as a tie-in with MOS, etc.

If there is a secret tie in scene they wouldn't want it ruined would they ?

They could always follow the Graphic Novel.

I still cannot see how they can just jump to Justice League movie after Man Of Steel, especially if they are not including Nolan's Bat-trilogy and Green Lantern movie.

That would mean -

DC Shared Universe

* MOS (2013)
* Justice League(2016)
* ?

This is the way I would envision the DC cinematic universe:

- TDKT
- MoS saga
- WF or a couple of JL films
- Del Toro's Dark Universe
- Any potential Flash/Wonder Woman film, and possibly a GL reboot.

The last JL film will end badly for the League, where governments step in protest against the League and forcibly disband them.

Years later, this leads to a loose adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns - maybe Nolan might consider returning for this. The first half would need to be changed to fit with the events of the previous DC films, but the second half would remain largely in tact. Towards the end of this film, we see that Bruce is moving closer to Ras al Ghul's philosophy (while not completely embracing it). He sees that the very governments themselves are in fact hypocritical and criminal enterprises. His quest to be a symbol to inspire others has ended in failure, so where does salvation for man truly lie? Supes also realizes this after he gets his ash handed to him by Bruce.

The end of The Dark Knight Returns paves the way for a film adaptation of Twilight of the Superheroes (based roughly on Alan Moore's outline).

In the end, Bruce expunges the darkness within himself and he takes down all the other superheroes. The point of this film will be to deconstruct, refute, and bring the superhero myth to an end. The world erupts into war, and out of the ashes, a new human civilization emerges with a new paradigm and outlook, inspired by the legend and example of Bruce Wayne (who will die as an old man towards the end). Superman is either defeated/dead or he leaves Earth.

Or perhaps, they could use The Dark Knight Returns as a springboard to a potential Batman Beyond universe. Many different possibilities to play with.

:waa:

The new Empire tidbit on the front page only further solidifies my opinion that TDKT is done and won't be used in any way.

You can't have a Dark Universe before Justice League it would be a slap in the face.

I didn't mean it for it to be in any particular order. They could release a Dark Universe around the same time or a little after JL, if they choose to go forward with it.

No it didn't. WB have been doing it themselves just fine, bad place if you think of their current plan, with hindsight, hiring Chris Nolan was a bad idea.

How were they doing fine ?

Catwoman, Jonah Hex, Losers, Green Lantern were all bad.

SR and Watchmen were good but they were not successful commercially.

the Justice League movie could boost the desires to see the other characters in their own movies...look at what Avengers did for the Hulk...people were dying to see a hulk movie to the point that Marvel had to come out and say they had no plans for a Hulk solo movie. Imagine if the scene stealer of the JL movie is Wonder Woman or Flash...people will wet themselves to see their movies.

Even the script that were in development were bad, does anyone remember Akiva Goldsman's Shazam script ?

or, George Miller's Justice League : Mortal movie project ?

My worry is that WB is jumping too fast into Justice League without realizing that the build-up solo films are a huge part of the revenue.

Setting up the origins of Wonder Woman, Flash and a new Green Lantern (John Stewart) would take up a lot of movie's run-time, not to mention setting up villains back story and plan.

Avengers benefited form having a pre-established universe of Super heroes and an established villain, so that they could focus on the story.

If JL rushes Bale's Bruce's decision to jump straight back into being Batman, I would be pissed.

It makes financial and creative sense to include TDKT as part of the DCU. It was a mistake to hire Nolan? Tell that to the billions he made for WB and DC.

TDK trilogy will always be there for those Batman purists who do not want any other super heroes (and fantastical elements ) to exist in Nolan-universe.

In case Bale's Batman is introduced in JL movie, those who are not supportive of such a move can view the movie as a stand alone else-worlds JL movie.

Interpretation is all in the viewers mind.
