Is anyone else watching this?

It is painful. It is pretty much just Anthony Anderson trying to be a serious actor (which is painful in its own right) playing a wanna-be Vic Mackey role, combined with constant preaching about how screwed N.O. got after Katrina.

Absolute crap.

Maybe if they lose Anthony Anderson for someone who knows how to act and stop being so damn preachy.

Vic Mackey?

I agree it has potential.

It's only a pilot, Matt. Was Seinfeld's pilot that great? K-Ville has potential to be good (or great) if it focused more on the social and political aspects of post-Katrina New Orleans and less on cliche cop show stuff.

Oh, give Anthony Anderson a chance. I think that he isn't limited to comedic roles. I thought he was good as the replacement detective on Law & Order: SVU (for 4-5 episodes, I believe), and he was just fine with his role in The Shield. I just hope that he can give out a better performance as the show progresses.

With that aside, I agree that the pilot is bad, but it is the pilot. Most shows' pilots aren't/weren't too shabby, either. The sad thing about this is that with Heroes coming back next week, I won't be able to support the show for much longer.

:csad:

I understand it is a pilot, but Anderson isn't the right actor to be pulling this preachy crap. Especially when his character is essentially a watered down Vic Mackey. It needs to lay off the force feeding of the social/political issues. It would be one thing if it was done subtelty or tactfully, but it is being shoved in the audiences face.

The only part that makes it stand out to me IS the social/political issues and NEW ORLEANS. So to me focus on that rather than more on cop drama is great. The location makes this show.

Again, I agree, it is a unique aspect, but the problem is the way there is absolutely no subtlety regarding it. It is just being force fed to the audience.

Exactly! Whats holding this show back is cliche cop show stuff. More focus on New Orleans and we may have a good show here.

Anderson trying to be serious? He's had plenty of notable serious roles before, despite him not being known for them.

I didn't see the show, but I would assume that it's more about the writing than Anderson's performance.

Yes, trying. I've seen his other serious roles. He isn't very good in any of them.

There is a very very thin line between political commentary and being preachy. This show not only crossed that line, it took a piss on it.

I take it you haven't watched The Departed? :o

I don't think it's Anderson holding the show back, it's the writing. Every time I thought they were talking this show in an interesting direction it went for the cliche. K-Ville will not get a season pass.

It was just the pilot. They can work on reducing the preachyness.

Sure, they CAN...but will they?

I have no reason to tune back in when the pilot was preachy with bad acting and cliched writing.

Just seems that it would be better on HBO, Showtime or FX. It has potential. I did get the feel of The Shield in New Orleans, "they're desperate for cops, they won't fire us." Some dramas have great pilots and sputter out after that while some have okay ones and develop into great shows.

If this show ends up cancelled I hope other network execs don't shy away from doing a show in New Orleans.

John Carroll Lynch is great. I'll tune in next week after PB.

Yeah, but will they have enough time, They're probably working on the 7th or 8th ep now and will probably too late by then. Plus it's gonna be going up against the biggest new show last year next week. With Fox's track record, K-Ville will probably get cancelled before it gets a chance to work on it's problems. I know I won't be watching next week.

Well the pilot was filmed in the March/April and was picked up in May. We don't know whats happened in the summer.

I really don't think the show being on HBO, Showtime or FX would help it, it didn't seem like the show needed an extra bit of edginess, just better, less cliched writing.
