Watching this movie again after a long while simply reminds me how much this movie sucked ass. The first "Karate Kid" at least, was on of my favorite '80s movies growing up. But this time, it seemed like the filmmakers didn't really try hard any more.

For starters, the writing and acting (particularly, Ralph Macchio's) is horrifically cliched and melodramatic. Only Pat Morita seems to come out with most of his dignity in tact. Plus, I can't get over how utterly fat Ralph Macchio looks in "KK3". I mean, the movie supposedly takes plays about six months after "KK2". Has Daniel La Russo done nothing but eat ice cream all day since he and Mr. Miyagi returned from Japan?:wow:

For some reason, Daniel in "KK3" is even more obnoxious, whiny and wimpy than before Mr. Miyagi took him under his wing. Why would he be afraid of Barnes, when he had to fight for respect and later, his own life in the first two movies? If anything, Chozen was probably a scarier foe than than a *****ebag like Barnes.

To make matters worse, they don't even bother showing Daniel fighting through the tournament (so we're robbed of another "You're the Best Around" montage ), since him being the defending champion gives him a bye straight to the finals. I mean, Johnny Lawrence didn't get a bye in the first movie, so why does Daniel (purely a case of lazy writing)? The fight between Daniel and Barnes is extremely anti-climatic and pathetic.:cmad:

Also, the "love interest" in "KK3" (played by Robyn Lively of "Teen Witch" and "Not Quite Human" fame) has to be one of the biggest cock-teases in cinema history. She never develops into an actual love interest for Daniel (like Elisabeth Shue and the cute girl from Okinawa in the second movie) because in real life, Robyn Lively is like 10 years younger than Ralph Macchio, and was still under 18 when this movie was made. To make matters worse, the girl leaves town well before the climax (so what was the point).

The whole premise (thus making this sequel even more unnecessary and/or implausible) for "Karate Kid III" stems from the fact that John Kreese is a sore loser. Plus, it was his own fault people don't want to come to the Cobra Kai anymore because he was being such an abusive ******** in the parking lot after Daniel defeated Johnny Lawrence in the tournament.

The Terry Silver character is way too much of a comic book, Saturday morning villain to be taken seriously. He's basically, the ultimate Little League dad.

yeah I feel the same way about this too. There was no development at all. By the Third movie they should have had Daniel become more badass and more wise. The stakes should have been higher. Maybe even have Terry Silver force Daniel to fight in a underground fight to the death karate tournament against John Kreese himself. It was just a total missed opportunity.

I still dig part 2 the best though

Did this movie even have a theatrical run? I remember one day just walking into a video store and seeing it there. I assumed at the time it went straight to VHS. I haven't seen it in well over fifteen years but I don't recall liking it all that much.

It came out in the summer of 1989, but it wasn't as successful at the box office as the first two.

I just looked up the release date and saw that it came out on June 30th, 1989. No wonder I didn't hear about it at the time. Batman and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade probably killed the movie before it was even released.

As far as this goes, I always thought that he and Kumiko were still together but was a long distance relationship sort of thing, he said that she took a job in Japan involving dance but I don't remember him saying they were broken up.

But yeah, it's like they tried to recycle some elements from the first movie and then tried to up it a bit further and it ended up being over the top; I mean Barnes had it out for Daniel all because he wanted his trophy?

And as far as Terry goes, what exactly did he do for a living being that he was so rich? When I first saw this movie when I was younger, I actually thought he was played by Steven Seagal.
