Katie Holmes was actually better, partly because Rachel Dawes had something to do in Batman Begins.

Holmes. No hesitation on my part. Holmes , despite her girlie appearance portrayed a very tough character who was treating the world deadly seriously and plus, Katie's cute "in an old fashioned kind of way". Maggie looks 40 and I just didnt get that stamina from her.

Maggie, and it's not even close. Maggie can act, Katie cannot. Maggie was convincing as a DA, Katie was not.

I agree with you. Katie was at least charismatic. Maggie? Not so much. There wasn't much of a difference in their performance quality, and it wasn't a demanding role either. I wish she had just stayed on for the sequel instead of getting recast just to be killed off.

Katie didnt want to do it according to Nolan and he said he wouldve been very happy to have her for TDK. Ive heard that she wanted to spend more time with family, not sure if thats the real reason tho

I'm sure you all remember we already have a thread for this. Or was it closed or something?

I was lookin for something like this here and couldnt find it, so perhaps it was deleted

Funny... everytime I see TDK by itself, I really can't care about less about Rachel's death. It has no impact on me whatsoever. "oh she's dead, okay." That's pretty much my reaction.

However, for the first time I've watched both films back to back. And even though the character is played by different actors, what I knew about Rachel's connection to Bruce fresh in my mind from BB, it made a real impact watching TDK. For the first time I was sad that the character was killed and I could especially feel for not only Harv but also Bruce due to their connection in Begins.

Not saying that one actress was particularly better than the other...

Thats how it always was for me too, because I already made a connection with the character in BB and once you change the actress, no matter how close she plays the character, itll always be like a different person. Especially when she looked like a very young and naturally cute girl in one movie, and like a 40 year old woman with eyebags in another. The thing is, Rachel's character is very *****y, and we wouldnt like her if we wouldnt know her better, and BB shows her character well so we understand her. But when a new, and such a different (and older) actress comes in, it feel like a new character who has an attitude, with no history behind it, or any attachment for that matter

i think they both suck.

burton had kim basinger and michelle pfeiffer.
schumacher had nicole kidman, elle mcpherson and uma thurman.

nolan has had katie holmes/maggie gylenhaal. yawn.

nolan's films lack sex appeal. they really need to sort that aspect out for tdkr. if they bring in catwoman, she has to be intimidatingly hot and powerful.

i don't want to have some dull katie holmes/maggie gyllenhaal type where they politely emphasise how much of a good actress they are.

I thought Katie was cute in a natural way, she wasnt "hot", she was "pretty" - which is a big difference

She was cute in a 12 year old school girl kind of way.
