Well, here’s the big news out of New York Comic Con: John Jackson Miller is moving up to the big leagues with a post-Revenge of the Sith novel tentatively titled Kenobi.

On his blog, Miller describes Kenobi as “part epic western, part high-stakes drama, part romance.” You can get a closer look at Scalf’s preview art on his DA. (via) The book will be a hardcover and is currently scheduled for Fall 2013.

I've been saying for a long while now that a book or animated movie that chonicles Obi-Wan's life between ROTS and ANH was my most wanted thing from the EU, looks like I'm gonna get what I want! :D

I need this book now... NOW!!! :argh::waa:

Kenobi is a sweeping story that’s part epic western, part high-stakes drama, part romance — but it’s all Star Wars, taking place in the early days of Obi-Wan’s exile to Tatooine. I shouldn’t expand too much beyond what Random House said on its panel and Facebook page, but I can say this. I’ve been working on this concept for years — I’ll talk more about that process later on — and the basics are pretty simple. The greatest hero in the galaxy faces his toughest challenge yet: He must stop being Obi-Wan — and learn to live as Ben.

This sounds great. It's about time we got a book about this part of Kenobi's story.

I hope it doesn't retcon Jude Watson's YA books.

She actually made me like Obi-Wan more than the movies ever did.

OOh I must read this, as I'm sure Qui Gon will feature as well as he learned thevsecret to Immortality and I am sure he has a bit more to teach his former padawan :D. And, this just seems like it will be awesome

I'm definitely hoping that Qui-Gon teaching Obi-Wan how to become a Force Ghost is part of the novel.

They touch that a bit in the Last of the Jedi series, but i do hope it's expanded in this book. That would be awesome.

Thanks Bim. I need to make a list of books to read.

Me too, that'd be really great part of the book if it's featured. Obi-Wan is a very different Jedi/man now than when he was Qui-Gon's apprentice. I'd love to know what Qui-Gon thinks of what happened to Anakin, and how he feels about all of that. Would Qui-Gon still believe that Anakin is the chosen one? There's just so many ways they could go with featuring Qui-Gon in the book teaching Obi-Wan.

This book has so much potential, but I truly dislike JJ Miller's writing. I know I'll be at my local shop buying this the day it comes out, so I'll only have myself to blame for not waiting for paperback (if it's no good, of course!).

Wow, this sounds great. I can't wait to read it! I never read anything about his those years between III and IV.

A given buy for me.

I still really like that Kenobi pic. It tells so much.

Dayyyumm. This is the firsti time I'm hearing about this. Just finished Darth Plagueis and am now reading Choices of One, but Kenobi is my favorite character. I can't wait!

Yeah, i agree. He just looks like he's gone through hell and back doesnt he? Those Tatooine years can be quite interesting if writen right. I dont see him just sitting in a hutt meditating. His inner turmoil must have reached peak levels after ROTS. How one goes from that to the jedi we see in ANH is something i'm very intrigued by. Kenobi rocks! :woot:

Poor Obi, he has been through so much. Lost so much, and yet still remains one of the coolest characters ever.

Well, ANH ObiWan is 58 years old or so. Nevermind that he looks 70. So, he must've been though a lot in dat heat.

Kenobi now has an official synopsis and cover as well as a new release date of August 27th.

Interesting that they used Ewan for the cover, I hope that might be an indication that this could be in line to be adapted into a stand-alone Obi-Wan movie.

The Republic has fallen.
Sith Lords rule the galaxy.
Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi has lost everything . . .
Everything but hope.

Tatooine—a harsh desert world where farmers toil in the heat of two suns while trying to protect themselves and their loved ones from the marauding Tusken Raiders. A backwater planet on the edge of civilized space. And an unlikely place to find a Jedi Master in hiding, or an orphaned infant boy on whose tiny shoulders rests the future of a galaxy.

Known to locals only as “Ben,” the bearded and robed offworlder is an enigmatic stranger who keeps to himself, shares nothing of his past, and goes to great pains to remain an outsider. But as tensions escalate between the farmers and a tribe of Sand People led by a ruthless war chief, Ben finds himself drawn into the fight, endangering the very mission that brought him to Tatooine.

Ben—Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, hero of the Clone Wars, traitor to the Empire, and protector of the galaxy’s last hope—can no more turn his back on evil than he can reject his Jedi training. And when blood is unjustly spilled, innocent lives threatened, and a ruthless opponent unmasked, Ben has no choice but to call on the wisdom of the Jedi—and the formidable power of the Force—in his never-ending fight for justice.
