Kenya Mall Shooting

I'm surprised to not see this on here, it's on all of the news right now. But there is a massive hostage situation in a Nairobi, Kenya at a mall there by Islam extremists. 68 people are already dead, and there is word that three of the attackers either are from the US, or once taken up residence here. There is also been warnings from some radical groups that there will be similar attacks to follow on US malls, negating an amped up security at our more populated malls as we speak.

There's already enough bad news in the world without people like this making it worse. I thought it was initially just a hit and run instead of a hit and sit like I'd mentioned earlier in the Lounge thread but it's still going on and over 175 are injured on top of the 68 dead.

Naturally they claim to be targeting other places especially in the US. It's how terrorism works. They don't even have to actually do anything to make people afraid or spread the rumors of more attacks.

All of it is meaningless. These terrorists aren't going to gain anything. They killed and injured scores for nothing and will only further make any legitimate grievances they had irrelevant.

Throwing grenades into a crowded mall. ****. I think about the chaos that ensues when people are trying to get to a sale and I can't even begin to imagine the mass panic that would occur in a mall under siege by gunmen.

As for the threat against the US, I dont know how things are in kenya, but a hostage situation in a US mall with american citizens carrying concealed weapons will not go over well for the terrorists. I mean **** its not like a bunch of terrorists (dressed as citizens or not) can just walk into our malls carrying assault rifles. They wouldn't even make it within a hundred feet of the door before someone dropped them.

Don't blame the whole of Africa for this s***. decades of Communist dictators, civil war and Islamic terrorism has left large parts of Somalia lawless. U.N.-backed African Union force that includes troops from Kenya and Uganda went into Somalia to fight back Al-Shabab literally street by street. The African Union forces drove Al-Shabab back and nearly wiped them out. Many Al-Shabab members aren't even Somalis.

The bombings in Uganda a couple years ago and this attack in Kenya are retaliation by Al-Shabab.

East African nations tried to deal with these terrorist scumbags in their neighbouring countries and suffered for it as much as us in the west have for our dealings with terrorists.

I live in NC so yeah there are a lot of concealed carriers. Open carry is also permitted. A lot of store clerks carry guns as well. And its a castle state. Any trained educated gun owner could drop one of these ****ers if they saw what was about to go down. I mean in my area they'd have to be morons to try something like this.

Your area would be a very exceptional case then. I've lived all over the southeast-midwest of the US and it's rare to see anyone carrying a gun outside of law enforcement. In fact I've only seen it a handful of times and it's nearly always for hunting or shooting ranges.

International terrorists probably wouldn't target a shopping mall in a non-marque area of the U.S

Domestic terrorist would probably pull a Timothy McVeigh on a shopping mall rather than try and get into a gun battle. Terrorist usually go for soft targets that will cause the maximum amount of death.

The terrorists in Nairobi were well prepared for this and have been co-ordinated by the higher up terrorists according to the Al-Shabab spokes person.

Concealed carry is concealed carry.

but what if they had no plans on making it out alive? a suicide bomber would probably do a lot of damage in your average mall food court.

They'd more than likely target an east coast or west coast mall, where there would be a lesser chance of all the shoppers brandishing guns.

Too bad that's never happened. Malls have been shot up here before in the US, and I have yet to hear about a concealed carry person saving the day. Random concealed carry civilians very rarely/almost never have stopped any armed criminals.

Even if you're a concealed carry, you're not encouraged to engage in a gunfight with a spree shooter. Also, spree shooters and terrorists usually target people in places least likely to resist.

Well, I live in Florida and have friends/relatives in pretty much every southern state, and one out of 5 people I know have a concealed weapon.

I lived in Florida too. I don't remember anyone having one but if 1/5 of the people you know has one, that's 20%... 80% don't carry.

Interpol has issued a Red Alert for Samantha Lewthwaite, known as the White Widow. Widow of London 7/7 bomber and rumoured to be link with terrorist groups in East Africa as well as possibly being involved in this Westgate Mall attack.
