In an article on mtv.com about Marvel and their upcoming slate of films Kevin said this about the movie.

"Silver Surfer is herald to a very big thing known as the World Devourer, and needless to say, the Fantastic Four may be encountering him next summer," Feige said of the flick that recently began filming (see "Alba Says 'Fantastic Four 2' Will Be 'Exciting, Hot, New, Fresh' "). "Dr. Doom is back and is more evil than ever. [Special-effects house] Weta is developing a new process, the way they did for Gollum and Kong, to bring the Silver Surfer to life. We're going to use an actor for reference on set, and then it's going to be turned into what I hope is one of the most spectacular CGI effects anyone has ever seen."

Cool! Thanks!

Recently began filming? That's interesing. I didn't think they were filming until next week (I guess maybe they're doing some basic or special effects shots).

WETA is doing some effects?!?
If that's true....I,....I feel, a good feeling, regarding F4 2.

What a....strange sensation.

But of course it was tempered by: "Galactus is a very big thing"
Which makes me think they chickened out 'cause of his purple antlers and are going to update (rape) him into some "Ultimate" crap.

Hmmm

I think Tim Story knows what's necessary to pull off Galactus properly.
I just hope FOX gives him the tools to make it happen.

Definitely not trying to start some 2 year old debate, but just saying, I don't understand that confidence as the ONLY thing I think he pulled off was Johnny Storm.

That leaves effects, pacing, music, editing, Reed, Sue, The THING, Dr. DOOM, so......

I knew Doug Jones wasn't going to be acting in this film or be wearing a suit that we'd see on screen. I've been saying all along "Who do you trust Tim Story or Doug Jones?" Jones was just too damn tall and skinny and just didn't look right. If they're gonna model the CGI after anyone it should be someone more proportional.

with WETA, Gollem worked because that had enough prep time. I wonder if Surfer had enough too..

Yeah, that's sickening. Jack Kirby's designs aren't good enough for them? They can go to hell.

Between this and the love triangle stuff, FF2 is already sounding like a joke.

hmm so u are back again to speak negative things about F4 just like u did in the x-men boards.

I understand. Those were all problem araes for me too.
I just think we should consider the fact that Tim was brought on as director pretty late in the game. I'm sure a lot of the bad creative choices had already made by Fox
And the film was definitely chopped to pieces, so it's kinda hard to get a feel for what Tim's pacing would have been like.
He says he regrets the way Doom was handled, and I believe him. At least he does know the material and despite whatever limitations he may or may not have as a director, his excitement for FF2 is encouraging.

But June 15th will tell the tale.

I'm sorry, you're right. This movie will rock no matter what they do because FOX and Tom Rothman are my gods. I hope it's nothing like the comics because the movies are always better. No one should ever question or criticize anything and if they do, they suck.

Happy?

Certainly sounds more and more encouraging...

But i agree; If im Fox and i have the rights to adapt the FF comics to the big screen, why in God's green earth would i choose to adapt Mark Millar, when i have the rights to Stan Lee & Jack Kirby's vision?

Keep it classic, Fox. Nothing to be embarassed about.

I love Stan and Kirby's stuff.

But frankly. there are alot of different people that have worked to make FF what it is. If they want to go a certain route from a certain artist that's fine, go for it because I would too. I'm not saying make Galactus an armada of insects or some **** but it shouldn't be a rule "Stick to Kirby or die".

Yes, yes it should.
If they'd done that, it would've been the best escapist film of all time, surpassing all others.

We can argue which "works better" on screen: The classic designs or revised designs, but I think that loses part of the point.

The point of these films should be to bring the comics to life . . . not just make a good film. Sure it's difficult to pull some of these things off, but that's the challenge and as much faithfulness as possible should be the goal.

If some things are just too expensive or really look silly on screen, fine, they may have to be revised, but I would hope the film-makers consider that a defeat rather than something they should feel proud of.

If the goal is to make "believable" films, they shouldn't wear costumes, they shouldn't have superpowers, they shouldn't have colorful dialogue . . .

. . . they shouldn't do any of the things that made us buy the comics in the first place. What would be the point of that?

More like "Stick to Kirby or most likely it'll suck."
Especially for this film, where they're adapting a character that Jack Kirby and Jack Kirby alone created. A character whose look has remained pretty much exactly the same for over 40 years. (At least until this "Ultimate" garbage came out.)
I'm sure that relatively little of Lee & Kirby's magic will remain intact on the screen, even if the producers try to follow every line L & K wrote and drew.
But I'd rather have a third generation copy than a thirtieth.

I think they should stick to the Kirby designs. None of us are sure what route will be taken, but I'm with the majority and don't want to see any of that Ultimate Galactus crap. Those stupid bug ships would be more cost effective and easier and quicker to adapt to the big screen, but it't not the real Galactus.
