Just yesterday I sat down for an interview with Kevin Smith in Austin, Texas. We spent a while chatting about Zack and Miri Make a Porno, his latest brilliant comedy, but before it was over, I had to ask him about both Watchmen and Star Trek, two movies that he's already seen. I asked him which of the those, plus The Dark Knight, he thought was the best, but when he said that was too tough to answer, I asked if he had to choose one to watch, which would it be? "I would say The Dark Knight… Well, Dark Knight was kind of amazing," he began. Over both Watchmen and Star Trek? Don't worry, he did mention a few more things about the other two as well, calling all three of them amazing movies.

"Watchmen and Star Trek are amazing too, but Dark Knight, I think, it's just an imminently watchable film. I saw that movie 5 times in the theater and I was never bored once," Smith recalled. "I would probably give the edge to The Dark Knight, personally, just because I love that movie so much. And it was like seeing Batman done right and seeing the Joker done right."

Just shows how Great of a job Christopher Nolan did, because Watchmen looks amazing, and I think anything Abrams does is gold, and he was going gaga over those.

Kevin Smith has seen both the Watchmen and Star Trek movies?

I thought Watchmen wasnt even done yet. He saw a finished product?

Well it comes from a guy who wanted to make a movie about Superman in which he fights a giant spider at the end. So his opinion, though good is worthless. :hehe:

If you're being at all serious, I hope you realize he was forced to include that spider.

There´s no shame in being less amazing than TDK.

The giant spider, the non-flying Superman, the gay sidekick robot and all the stuff that sucked in that project came from Jon Peters. Check "Kevin Smith about Superman" on Youtube, it´s hilarious and explains the whole deal.

just watched the video. it was hilarious! :woot:

The giant spider was producer Jon Peters's idea to be added in Smith's script. It was recycled by Peters in Wild Wild West which he also produced.

This giant spider would be better than Singer's piece of crap.

Better than Watchmen and Star Trek huh?

That's like saying nothing....

specially for a film like TDK.

Well the only finished movie he saw was TDK. I think I'll reserve judgment for the time being.

Seriously Watchmen looks like the lamest movie ever. I hope the lawsuit continues and it never see the light of day.

I enjoyed the movie immensely, that is all I need to know.
As for Kevin Smith's opinion....eh....doesn't matter in the least.

TDK is better than Watchmen and Star Trek??? Oh WOW, what a big surprise! (Sarcasm).. Nolan has more talent in his big toe than both Abrams and Snyder combined. I'm sorry, but Christopher Nolan is a true artist and story teller. And he has great sensibility and restraint. Nolan is one of the greatest talents i've ever seen and will go down as the greatest filmmaker of all time when it's all said and done. .. These other guys are just hacks. Watchmen looks like a cartoon, and star trek looks like a 2 hour TV show. Nolan is just a rare cinematic talent.

Kevin Smith is a talented filmmaker, so yes, his opinion does matter. Pretty much the consensus from top filmmakers is that TDk is a rare unique and awesome film. Nothing will touch TDK in a long time. Even though it has its flaws, it's a genius film. IT transcends the genre. The first comic book movie to do it.

With a differing opinion of Kevin Smith's "talent", I'll just say his review doesn't matter much to me.
:yay:

Smith is barely passable. And we haven't seen neither Watchmen or Star trek.

There's no much to say except how magnificent TDK was.

perhaps a bit of an overstatement.

but as far as him being an amazing talent and a top notch story teller, i have to agree there. that's what he is. he's a great story teller. and i think he has all the potential in the world to go down as one of the top guys in the business. but no one will ever surpass stanley kubrick as the greatest of all time =)
