Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and now Kevin Smith. The soon-to-be retired filmmaker is making sure that, after his final film Hit Somebody, he’ll have plenty of alternative media to keep himself busy. He’s already got his own Internet radio station, S.I.R., and he’s developing a reality TV show that will take place at his personal comic book shop, Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in Red Bank, NJ. Dubbed as sort of a “Pawn Stars for Fanboys,” the show has been casting over the last week and Smith just tweeted that he’s already got an awesome and unlikely network interested in airing it: AMC.

The show was recently announced when an open casting call went out for geeks to star on the show. Here’s the info

Have you ever wanted to work in a comic book shop? Silent Bob himself, Kevin Smith, is casting a new television series set in his comic shop “The Secret Stash.” He’s not looking for actors, he’s looking for real people who live and breath the comic book lifestyle. Must be funny outgoing and have a knowledge and passion for comics, superheroes, movie memorabilia and everything that goes with it. Looking for men and women ages 21 – 35 in the Tri-state area only. Must be available in Red Bank, NJ on either June 2nd or June 3rd AND a 3-day shoot on June 14th – 16th. To apply, send a picture and a short bio including name, age, and phone number to [email protected] If you are selected, we will contact you to schedule a follow up interview.

We’re also looking for people in the Tri-state area with cool, unique, rare, or otherwise awesome comic book/movie memorabilia. It’s Pawn Stars for Fanboys, and if you have something to sell/trade/or value, we want you to bring it to us! Must be available in Red Bank, NJ on either June 2nd or June 3rd AND one additional day between June 14th – 16th. To apply, send a picture of yourself, and a description and picture of the item with your name, age, and phone number to [email protected]. If you are selected, we will contact you to schedule a follow up interview.

Smith followed that up by answering a fan question on Twitter with the news of the network. Since there’s no pilot yet, there’s certainly no guarantee that the show will make it to air but when we contacted AMC, they pointed us to a recent news story stating they’d be getting into more unscripted entertainment. Smith’s show seems to fall under that statement.

First off, this sounds like a show I would definitely watch. However, it doesn’t really sound like something that fits with AMC’s brand. Are you going to watch Don Draper sip some scotch, Walter White make some meth, and then a nerd sell his lightsaber?

AMC is a TV station that, when it comes to original programming, has generally favored the hour-long, scripted drama. They have a great reputation and its a coup that Smith has them interested but, even though they’ll be getting into more reality based shows in the future (their first one will probably be Inside the DHS, about Homeland Security, aimed at a late 2011 premiere) Smith’s show still feels like a mismatch. If it even makes it to air at all.

What do you think about all of this?

This sound really cool.

not happy that he's retiring from film right as he seems to be maturing as a filmmaker, but i'll watch this, i've always wanted to go to his shop, so this'll be the net best thing.

Oh, I see the cut off age is 35, hmm. It's a good thing I don't look my age. :)

I might check this out.

I would love to apply for this. but i'm only nineteen and live on Long Island New york, that would be a commute lol.

kevin smith is retiring from film? thats probably a good thing. wish he woulda done it after dogma.

I hope since he's retiring from film, he can write more comics and be on time. Guys a good writer, he's just lazy.

I love Kevin Smith.I love Comic shops. But really how will this be entertaining for a half hour or hour? What's the most drama that happens at a comic shop? Two guys duking it out over whether Superman or Hulk are stronger?

Lol. AMC really is the oddest choice for a reality tv show.

getting stoned seems to have really helped him creatively lol, wish he would have started years ago.

This show premieres next Sunday 2/12 after The Walking Dead, and hasnt had a post about it in almost 8 months, and this is a comicbook centric site, so obviously it is going to do well...

I didn't even know it was in production until the adds started popping up on this site, last I heard they were still looking for a host. any who I will definitely watch this.

I hate reality television, but I love Tell 'em Steve-Dave, what to do?

I'll check it out. Apparently it's only 6 episodes. I feel it'll be similar to the Evening with Kevin Smith dvds.

Anyone going to check out the season premire tonight after The Walking Dead?

Lol. AMC really is the oddest choice for a reality tv show.

They have a few more in the works which could show up later in the year:

Inside the DHS will chronicle the behind-the-scenes workings of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and its personnel, including Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

The Pitch follows top creative ad agencies as they pitch a new account and goes behind the scenes as they prepare the campaigns and pitches.

JJK Security will follow the inner workings of a small family-owned private security company in Georgia. The series, executive-produced by Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver from Left/Right, will premiere with eight half-hour episodes in the third quarter of 2012.

Plus they could premiere a comedy series later this year or next.

All three of those sound boring a ****. :o

Inside the DHS and The Pitch sound interesting. They could team The Pitch with episodes of Mad Men. JJK Security sounds boring though.

yeah, I'm watching it now. but I haven't been a huge fan of Kevin Smith for a while, now. So I'm expecting it to be pretty shallow and heartless, like everything else he's done since Chasing Amy.

You obviously haven't listened to any of his podcasts. It's obvious he has a great deal of passion and enthusiasm for podcasting.

it doesn't make him any less of an egotistical *****e that thinks his **** don't stink.

I've NEVER been a Kevin Smith fan, and I never will be.
... But this show is pretty damn entertaining - minus Smith.:word:

needs a female on the show, I don't care if you pay her to fake interest in comics but needs something.
