Superman Returns Kevin Smith's experience with Superman (Returns)

Nah.....I think he's exclusively with Marvel. I think.

The reason I'm not sure is b/c he did WANTED for Top Cow......so, unless the contract of exclusivity simply means "don't work for the competion" I guess it could be.

I'm a fan of Smith. I read a bit of the script, and I thought it wasn't right.....but, I didn't lose anything for Smith. I don't see how he's a sell out.

I will admit I'm wrong, but the thing is, people like you NEED this movie to be good so much, that even if it is watching paint dry on a screen for 2 hours you would not admit it to be bad.

I sure as hell will. I just won't do it 3 weeks before the premiere....I intend to watch it and give my review.

It's already been established that the father is Richard White. And even if the child was from Clark, that's equal to having NO costume & NO flying?

That remdined me of Clark and Jor-El/Jonathon. Even though Jor-El is Clark's biological father, Jonathon IS his father... Maybe that's what Singer and Co. mean by Richard being the father. It wouldn't make them liars...

Hehe, Roegele, my favorite part of having you on these boards is you always pop in at the right time with random movie knowledge

Give me a f^cking break, if its bad....i'll say its bad.

So far it doesnt look like it is.

But I'm being objective and I will be when I see it. I hate the show Smallville now but I definately gave it a fair chance at first, expected it to be good...and it constantly delievered crap...and I addressed that.

So Im perfectly capable of being objective/ Are you?

I agree....if this turns out to be crap to me...I'm certainly going to voice it.

I have given my honest opinions on this board on everything from Smallville eppy's, to the Fantastic Four, Spiderman 2, Batman Begins to X3.....I don't care who owns the property...if it's a good time, I'll let you know. If it's shaky or damn near unstable, I'll say that as well.

Right now, articles and speculation aside, I like what I'm seeing from the actual SR trailers and TV Spots. You've got to have the ability to seperate the on-screen product from the speculation.....It's as simple as that. Just you watch Spiderman fanboys react the same way for Spiderman 3 and the supposed 4 villains. (As they did with 1 and 2, they just like us, go nuts and disect every bit of into and spin it our own way)

Hell, if anything has proved these guys can and WILL be disappointed in the movie come June 27th, it's that thread about the missing spaceship scene at the beginning. There are a fair amount of diehards in there who are VERY upset at that scene being gone. If these kids were so committed to loving the movie come hell or high-water, I'm thinking that thread wouldn't even exist at all.

Matt is, of course, not giving people who disagree with him a fair shake while accusing others of not giving him a fair shake because he disagrees. It's a fun little bit of circular logic he's got going whenever he wants to feel martyred on the altar of fanboy madness :)

Also, I'm sorta happy the thread derailed almost instantly, because with this and the "Who would you want to direct Superman" thread, it's like 1998 woke up, dusted itself off and invaded the forum.

what? is the ship crashing in onto kent farm still in?

Yeah, thats' still in. The thread is still on the front page, SpiderDan and I go pretty in depth with the back and forth in there.

But the point is--if everyone here were such mindless fanboys that will like the movie because we need it to validate our existence or something, then that thread would more than likely not exist. But it does, and it's pretty detailed. That's not a thread that shows people are mindless fools willing to swallow whatever is pinched off in our mouths, regardless of how easy it is to characterize the posters here in that manner.

And that's not to say those people DON'T exist. I just don't think they're the teeming numbers people say they are.

yes. Supes crashing into the farm is still in...

...anyway, here's a good read that's related to the actual thread.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_Lives

it's the whole story about the production of a new Supes movie since after Superman 4 was made. check it out.....it'll make you appreciate what Singer's doing with the flick, hehe.

"Warner Bros spent 17 years, three (confirmed) directors, nine screenwriters, and somewhere in the area of $50 million in pre-production of this film without a single frame of film having been shot."

All leading up to 27 days from now.......

BEcause firstly, it is not the way you START a franchise. Second, CONCLUSION as in end to the relationship...not Superman knocks her up than runs off for 7 years. I can not think of anything less Superman.

He's gone for 5 years. If your going to criticize the plot, get your facts straight.

Millar is more of an independent contractor. As far as I know, he has no exclusive contract with anyone. He is currently doing The Ultimates, but from what I understand he enjoys writing Superman quite a bit. The threat of cutting him off would not be beneath WB.

Millar loves Superman, but he's very very loyal to Marvel. He extended his exclusive deal through 2008. Also, he's not a stranger to butting heads with DC, up until recently the two had bad blood for years.

Really? What about?

I was wondering....Top Cow doesn't count as the competition, so he did write a story there....as long as it's not DC, he's fine?

Just saw the vid.....it was funny as hell. John Peters makes me laugh....and cry....and laugh some more.

Pretty crazy to see how Burton cashed his check too. I'd like to make cash like that.....for....essentially.....nothing.

About DC's handling of his Authority run.

As for the exclusives, for the most parts exclusives are about work for hire stuff. Creator owned stuff is usually okay.

And he read the movie novel as well, for shame...

I just want to know whay happened to the personalitry that admitted he was hyped for the movie just a couple days ago? Regression?

Matt, I`m sorry but you`re just being ridiculous now. You call Forrest Gump ******ed, you against everyone just for the sake of it. I wonder if you`re negative just because you like to be the opposite of everybody...

Now, now, SpiderDaniel.....the sad truth is, you're just being baited into talking smack so you can get a 'write-up' from a Mod.

Oh man...its just that is too much for me to handle. I really tried my best to be nice...I take it back what i said. Edited my post.

Take a look at my conversation with Fatboy in the screenwriters thread. We had a nice discussion about the Krypton scene being cut. Here, Matt is against everybody, acting with prejudice, etc, etc.

Kevin Smith rocks! He's right on the money as well. A former hairdresser now a Superman producer, go figure...

No, I don't really find it immoral. My two nephews were born of wedlock. I do find something wrong with Superman knocking up Lois than running off for 7 years.
But if Superman doesn't know she is pregnant how is he suppose to know he is running out on his kid....If Lois doesn't tell him it isn't his fault..it is hers. Besides that The kid is Richard's.
And you keep bringing up the piano..ever thought it might just be a small electric keyboard that the kid could pick up?
