Is one of the best arcs of any comic I have ever read. It totally owns the arc he did in Daredevil, which I also enjoyed. This was also my first Green Arrow comic ever, and despite the heavy continuity (I know a bit about the character from wikipedia, but nothing more really), I really, really enjoyed it. I'm going to get the rest of the trades of the series ASAP.

Your secret is safe with me. :D

If you enjoyed Quiver be sure to check out 'Sounds of Violence' which collects the last of Kevin Smiths stuff. Then make sure you get 'Archers Quest" which is by Brad Meltzer is by far my favourite Green Arrow stuff. The trades so steadily downhill after that but they arn't bad. If you like the character hunt down some of Mike Grell's stuff on the title (Longbow Hunters if the only trade) it's a more mature than the stuff now but very good.

I didn't really like them
I probably read them out of order or something. :csad:

Ditto. I wasn't a huge fan of "Sounds of Violence" because Connor got treated like a ***** in it (a trend which Winick seems more than happy to continue throughout his run), but "Archer's Quest" is great. Grell's stuff is just as good.

I already got Sound Of Violence, loved it too. I had to have the comic store special order volumes 3 and 4 in for me, so it'll be a couple weeks before I can get them. I also picked up Vol. 1 of Green Lantern/Green Arrow and loved it too. Gonna get Volume 2 next week, and probably Longbow Hunters with it, although I don't like the idea of Ollie getting more conservative and killing people.

Ollie didn't really get more conservative, he just got less political overall. The killing isn't done lightly, either. Grell does a good job of showing Ollie's frame of mind throughout Longbow Hunters. I hear his run on the GA comic was good, too, but I haven't read that yet myself.

I'm so glad this thread exists. It's a fantastic thread. Five stars.

Why not just make five better and make the top one five?

well, we'll see what I think of it after I read it. When does the next arc of the comics start? Also, are there any plans to release the rest of the series in trade? At least starting with the One Year Later arc? I can get single issues of all of them after it, but my store has been sold out of the issues of the OYL since they came out.

A new arc just started two weeks ago with issue #66.

As for trades, it's more of a matter of when than if they'll be releasing more. So far, I think the series is all collected in trade up until the OYL jump.

yeah, the kevin smith relaunch of the character was also my introduction to GA...and since then he's become one of my favorite characters. meltzers follow up is equally phenominal. most of winnicks stuff i love, he started out really strong...then it went a bit downhill after hester left as artist....now the issues are pretty hit and miss....but overall im digging them. straight shooter is probably my favorite winnick GA story, and a really good story at that. the early stuff with Brick was also phenominal. i'd love to see hester come back as the artist, loved his work.

Longbowhunters is good, my copy is signed :p

btw, you get to see Black canary mount ollie which is always a plus..i think?

IMO, DEFINTELY get vol 3, The Archer's Quest, it's arguably even better than Smith's

After that the book went downhill when Winnick came on board. It was still good, just not as good, and steadily got less interesting. The real bad turn came when Hester and Parks left as artists. I've finally dropped the book because Winnick has made it completely uninteresting for me, and the artists after Hester have failed to impress, so I've dropped the monthly.

The current story wouldn't be so bad if Winick weren't apparently dead-set on making Green Arrow the be-all and end-all of badasses in the DC universe. :o

which, actually, doesn't really work

Archers quest was good but Quiver was better

I disagree, Archer's Quest was much more personal

It's been years since I read Longbow Hunters. I remember then wondering what all of the hoopla was about. Grell's art looked painfully amateurish and the story was just meh. Perhaps I missed something.

I also agree with Eli and Corp on this one. Archer's Quest was an amazing story, and is the reason Meltzer is among my favorite writers.

I love Quiver and Sounds of Violence, but I think Archer's Quest is better in the sense that it was a more moving and personal story, and Roy.

Archer's Quest is the story I go back to, when Winick makes me forget why I like Green Arrow. It's a brillent, brillent personal story with a great use of continuity. I loved the way Meltzer talks about clenaing up after heroes die to protect people he really embrases the subject and the medium.

Winick just goes POW BANG POW CRASH.

Also I loved the use of Shade - he's one of the best villians (or anti-heroes) around.

Plus; Kyle Rayner.
