Kidman Confirmed for Compass
Bettany also joins Dark Materials film.

July 17, 2006 - As recent rumors suggested, Nicole Kidman will indeed be joining the cast of the His Dark Materials trilogy, beginning with The Golden Compass. According to The Daily Mail and several other sources, the starlet assuming the role of the insidious Mrs. Coulter — a character Kidman's skills are perfectly suited to.

Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code) is also in final negotiations to join the picture as Lord Asriel. Bettany and Kidman are reportedly good friends, having acted alongside each other in Dogville, and Bettany's involvement was apparently a factor in convincing Kidman to consider the film.

Another name likely to join the project is Claire Higgins, an award-winning British television actress. Although the deal is still being finalized, director Chris Weitz has apparently offered Higgins a part. And as previously reported, first-time child actress Dakota Blue Richards will be taking on the key role of orphan Lyra Belacqua.

Principle photography on The Golden Compass is scheduled to begin in September and run through January. However, Weitz has already begun some unpublicized filming in Britain.

His Dark Materials is the first major fantasy series for New Line Cinema since the Lord of the Rings trilogy ended. The studio is keen to make both The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass following Compass. All three stories are based on the popular fantasy children's books by British author Philip Pullman. The first film is due out in theaters in mid-November, 2007.

Update: Despite the British paper's certainty regarding Kidman, this report should be regarded as a strong rumor pending official confirmation. BridgeToTheStars.net, a fan site dedicated the His Dark Materials trilogy, has been unable so far to verify the news with their own source at New Line.

Thats cool

So that means that Bettany can also not be next Joker

^ Sounds like it.....Though I thought he was potentially out of the running, as he said he is wanting to take some time off?...

Well, i think Hulme also doesn't have big chance to become Joker.

The same I would say about Williams.

But I will admit, that the most important is Nolans's own vision on Joker, which can answer on the question like "Who will become new Joker?"

^ Indeed...

Though I think Hulme does have a good chance, as it was from this speculation of him possibly becoming the Joker that the majority of us first heard of him..
