Kid's Comic Book Reviews

Short update this time out. No Marvel comics reviewed. He actually didn't like a lot of the books that came out this week with the exception of Batman. He has also decided to start reviewing the Clone Saga TV series and that's also been updated.

Back with a lot of new reviews. The Kid has been plugging along doing his thing but I've been a bit too busy to post updates around the web.

Check it out and get caught up with his reviews and check out the latest update from this weekend featuring Hulk, the Hulk HC and Wizard of Oz

I liked his review of the Hulk Hardcover, I've been meaning to pick that up.

I discovered these reviews over at jinxworld, very entertaining

These reviews are very entertaining! Nice to see the same issues we read and discuss here but from a completely different perspective.

I'm just wondering now: do you make your son pay for any of these? Does he just read everything you pick up? I'm just wondering because if you buy all of those comics for him, you must be the greatest dad ever :woot:

I go to the store weekly and he usually comes with me. I have a weekly list of books that I get, plus pick ups from the rack. He checks out what I have in my list and does some browsing of his own and get's to pick out what interests him. Sometimes he's just happy taking from my stack and other times he doesn't like any of my books and just chooses his own.

There are a bunch of books that he reads: Deadpool, Nova, Simpsons, Tiny Titans, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, and Atomic Robo to name a few that I never read before he started reading him. He's turned me onto just as many books as I've done to him so it's fair.

And when it comes to reading I never make my kids pay for anything. They go to the library a lot (school and local) but if there is a book (comic or regular) in stores that they want to read I'll never discourage it by making it into a money thing. Toys and video games are one thing but I want to encourage their love of reading any way I can.

We updated the blog earlier in the week with his Best of 2008 feature. Fun stuff.

Bunch of new stuff up including a 'video' review of ASM 582, Final Crisis and a short review of the Obama appearance in ASM 583.

Couple of new reviews including his first 'classic' review...looking at Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars.

I have to say, I thought he would have loved this as much as I did when I was a kid...but I was wrong.

Great review on Secret Wars.

It saddens me that he liked Secret Invasion better though. :(

Yes sir! Kids these days absolutely need to read more. Put down the controllers and pick up a book. Reading Is Fundamental! Right on, man!

Thanks. I think because SI was shorter (and he actually only started reading it with the 3rd issue so it was even shorter for him) he was able to get the big action scenes in it which is what he was hoping for on a consistent basis with SW.

We've been thinking of doing a classic review every other week or so of an older comic. Mainly it was my excitement at getting his reaction to comics I loved at his age but as shown with SW, he may not take to the books as much as I did at the time. :)

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series of books is almost a perfect bridge between comics and prose books and he really really likes them. The first day we got the newest book I noticed it was 2 in the morning and he was still awake. I found out that he was reading because he was so into it he didnt want to stop. It's a lot better than finding out the kids are staying up past bed time sneaking the TV on or playing the DS

Question, is there any book he has wanted that you have not let him read for instance if he wanted to review a punisher comic or kick ass, what do you tell him in those situations? Also who is his favorite superhero so far?

Actually those two he's asked about a few times. He thinks the Punisher is cool and likes reading his appearances in mainstream Marvel books but the MAX line is off limits. Same goes for Kick Ass which he wanted to read just because of the title. The only other really mature book he is curious about is Walking Dead since he thinks Zombies are cool.

He knows if that if I say the book is geared more for adults then that's the way it is...just as if he wanted to watch a specific movie or play a video game that might be too old for him. He's fine with it for the most part since there are still a ton of books out there to choose from.

Favorite overall hero is probably Spider-Man. He enjoys a lot of different Spider-Man comics from Amazing to Ultimate to the Marvel Adventures line though he really likes the Red Hulk and Deadpool, too. Also a fan of Batman and Green Lantern. There are a lot of characters he thinks are cool but only a few (like Spidey) that he'll go out of his way to make a point of reading...even if it's not for a review.
