Well it is obvious Peter needs to grow and change (I'm not sure unmasking was the best way to do this) but how about children? He is married and is the every man and the everyman has children. He lost his first born to the Green Goblin and it haunted him throught the late '90s and then baby May was never mentioned again.

I mean it may age him a little but he is already 30 and we got a 15 year old kid in Ultimate Spider-Man which is way more popular with new readers anyway. Why not give the original Spider-Man some happiness? He was so ecstatic when he found out MJ was pregnant and the loss was....well tragic. How about letting Peter move on instead of keeping him in the status quo. Sure in 20 years it could be a problem when the kid has to age more than to 10 but I think they should go for it.

Yes, no, maybe?

Eh, they can bring Baby May back whenever they feel like it, I don't think any other kid is needed, given the fact that the one I mentioned already has 100(and counting) comic books to her own name

I say either solve the baby May mystery and bring her back, or have another kid. Either way the baby May story should be resolved because despite what Quesada says, May was clearly kidnapped not still born. :down

Personally I really don't care. BUT! (and this is a really big but folks), if therre ever were a superhero who could benefit from a child, it would be Spider-Man.

Noooooo! Spidey can't have a kid, it would make him to unrelateable, letting Spidey get married was bad enough, to have a kid on top of that would be horrible. He should just hang out in Stark Tower as the first year superhero, teenage sidekick Iron Lad forever.

My opinion...

May is dead and gone. To try to say otherwise... to rob Peter and MJ of raising their baby for all these years... would suck. Spider-Girl is a "what if" story (that many are NOT into - no reflection on the great storytelling, I'm sure) and it should stay that way.

I would not be in a hurry to give Peter and MJ a child. Right now, they are at an age that can be sustained with MANY possible twists and turns.

While having kids DOES NOT make him old or unrelatable. The thing about kids that "ages" a character is that kids grow up... Now Peter is "ageless" but having an infant who will have a first birthday... and then learn to walk... and then will start school... will MARK the passage of time.

But, at some point (YEARS from now) I would let Peter and MJ have a son... Ben. (I know I'd much rather see another MALE form wear the tights someday...) I think there are many good stories to tell with Peter as a parent. And after a few decades, may-be Ben can be the new teenage "Spider-Man." ;)

Not necessarily, Peter's aged what? A year? since the end of the Clone Saga? The kid would be still be a baby, lots of time and development remaining there. And certaintly easier than going through the entire pregnancy angle again, just to get another kid, named after a relative.

Introducing another kid, would not only be confusing as hell to those wondering why a couple hundred comic books were devoted to a still born child, but would invalidate the extremely obvious hints regarding the childs survival. "Oh right, well the rattles, crib, and milk bottles, on that yacht, actually had no relavence to the story itself"

The passage of time is already marked by writers as it is. If people wanted pete to stay young forever then may COULD stay a baby forever. fact remains pete is now 28.he has aged 13 years since being spider-man according to JQ so having a kid shouldnt affect the aging process.
itd give a character who's whole premise and appeal relied on responsibilty some more. if aunt may one day dies (which she should) and MJ and pete split up (which the writers will probably make happen) then where's pete's loyalties and responsibility lie? when he gets remasked who is he going to protect? having a child would be a positive step for pete. sorry, sorry, having his child BACK would be positive. IMO..

There is that pesky little book that wouldn't die...Spider-Girl.

While Spider-Man should ideally be a teenage superhero, the comic is about someone learning how to become a responsible person, how a boy becomes a man. As long as Peter is married to Mary Jane (until Joe Q brings a wrecking ball to it) it only makes sense for them to have a child.

I can understand the idea that it would "age the character" and that it would risk alienating those "younger readers," but when MJ was first pregnant, Peter decided to quit being Spider-Man feeling it was irresponsible of him to continue being a superhero when he was about to become a father. Of course, this rationale is total BS when you factor in cops and firefighters who risk their lives everyday and who manage to have familes. If anything, Peter having a child would want him to be Spider-Man more than ever in order to ensure that his son or daughter grows up in a safer world and that he has an added responsibility--you know, "With great power...etc."--to protect his family. You could have stuff like Peter using web fluid as disposable diapers; or him swinging around the city trying to get the baby to stop crying but then is attacked by the Shocker; him telling his infant kid an "untold story" about himself; Peter worried whether working two jobs plus being Spider-Man takes him away from being a dad; an argument with MJ over who should put their "carrer on hold" to take care of the baby; Aunt May has a grandmotherly role taking care of the kid when both Peter and MJ are out, etc. Basically, if Peter and MJ are going to be married, why not explore the possibility of them becoming parents and not chicken out by having her miscarry and actually having a child?

Young readers can get trades and there's also Ultimate Spider-Man. I grew up with Pete already being in his mid 20's and it didn't stop me from reading it. Its stupid not having him age. Thats one things I like about DC characters is they age. Batman's like 40, Dick is in his 20's and Superman is in his mid to late 30's.

Marvel has admitted Peter is around 29 or 30 (some say early 30s, which if you put the lapse of time of MJ being "dead" and seperated, that would make sense) so he is aging.

And Spider-Man is not meant to be timeless. "Timeless" or staying in the status quo is the whole ****ing problem. Writers get writer block because you can't do anything with him if you leave him 30 forever with no real changes in his life. Stan Lee engineered him to be someone who grows up and learns and takes on more responsibilities and heartache throughout life. That is why within 100 issues he went from 17 to 19 (I don't care what Civil War says he was near the end of high school and Romita Sr. refers to him as 17 in the origin) and high school to college. He's done grad. school, he is now a teacher professionally. He has had girl friends, he has been married.

****, he already has a kid but then they killed her (I think we are suppose to think baby May is dead but they could always bring her back). I just think it is the next step. Spider-Man can't say in one point of his life forever or it gets boring, hence what is happening to JMS and Jenkins when they were reduced to write crap like "The Lizard's Story," "Sins Past," and "The Other."

I say he needs to move up. If you give him a kid you got about 20 years of fresh material. Maybe in 20 years you realize wait, now he is in his late '30s but what are you gonna' do? This is the next thing. I like it A LOT better than him unmasking himself.

And it just feels right now that MJ is back and how JMS is writing the couple. If you want a young "relatable" Spider-Man go read Ultimate Spider-Man where he is still 15 100 issues later. That is exactly why the character was created. He'll probably stay a teenager as long as Bendis writes and then some. It'll give you the youth adventures which as I said are FAR MORE popular with younger readers in TPB and subscription than our 616 (let's face it we all spent a lot of time looking for back issues and old stories and there is A LOT there for a new reader to cover). But 616 is in a rut and now....it needs a kid.

Has Sue Storm aged that much since having a kid by the way? If any superhero ever deserved children, its Spidey. Otherwise he risks turning into Superman at this rate (no offense to Superman fans). We'll see though.

Him becoming a dad wouldn't alienate him for younger readers because they would still be able to see him as more of a father figure. There are plenty of kids who wish or would like to think their parents are superheroes so how would having a superhero parent be any different?

As for the "kid aging=spidey aging" thing, it would take a long time for the kid to age in the marvel universe. If the kid grows as fast as we do, but everyone else sticks to the marvel timeline that wouldn't make any sense. If we go by Marvel's timeline it would take 40 years for the kid to turn 13! Also look at how many shows/books have characters that don't age. Bart Simpson has been in the fourth grade for almost 18 years and it doesn't seem to bother anyone.

LOL. Yeah, so Peter Parker, Bruce Wayne, and Clark Kent can arrange a playdate for little May, Helena (and his illegitimate child with Talia), and Jason, lol. All of the hero's are knockin' chicks up.

Technically, Spider-Girl has 102 issues...remember #0 and 1/2? 103 if ya count the What If.

I kinda agree with the viewpoint that, ignoring the bull**** that they're putting the character through right now, just sticking with the Peter/MJ marriage as the plot thrust would work for right now.... it's still got a lot of story potential to go through, for say another 5-10 years or so.

But I still think them having a kid is something that definitely should happen at some point.

The Spider-Man story has never been a static one.... its always been a coming-of-age story. We've seen a nerdy, self-conscious teenager named Peter Parker learn the eternal lesson of responsibility.... and grow in confidence as his life has unfolded before our eyes.... as he's graduated from highschool, got a job as a photographer... went to college and grad. school, had several girlfriends including his lost first love, met new people and lost people.... and finally after all the hardships of life, finally "won" as he married that one girl you'd never have thought he'd ever get.... and even more recently, switched his life around and got a job as a teacher at his old highschool.

Having a kid is the next step in the story.

^ Exactly, but I think we have reached static. For about the last 10 years or so really. We've had some compelling storylines along the way, like Norman being the end all be all in New York threatening Peter, JMS first 3 years, Jenkins' first 3 years....and we've had some really bad ideas to try and break the status quo or get shock value into it like "Aunt May really isn't dead" or "Mary Jane is dead" or "Wait, Mary Jane isn't dead, but she's leaving Peter" or "Peter's joined the Avengers" and now my personal favorite "Peter's unmasked himself."

Oy, talk about running out of ideas to keep him fresh. I say wait a good couple of years and ride this Civil War thing out and start hinting of them ready to move on with their relationship and marriage and then have her get pregnant. A chance to start over. And the kid would offer happiness. Sure we're afraid the kid will age but Peter's aged what 12 years in 44 years of writing, that gives us half a century right there before the kid hits 13. When they reach that point....well there is always Ultimate then. ;)

Sigh. He HAS a kid. All Marvel has to do is get out of their living-in-their-mom's-basement-never-get-laid mentality and let the man grow the hell up. We have ULTIMATE Spider-Man if people want to read him as an incompetant child.

Amen.

When Marvel gets their collective head out of their collective ass and stops pulling this "Shocking" s*** every month, then they should definitely have a kid.

Joe Q and Co. just have it in their mind that Peter's life should be absolute crap. He should be divorced, his identity known by everyone, and Aunt May should be killed, if you ask them. They would rather make Peter Parker half cyborg and team up with Cable in the future in the fight against Apocalypse than to simply have his character progress in a natural way the same as 99% of the general f***ing population of America has done and will do.

So long as the inmates are running the asylum at Marvel, we'll never get what we want out of a flagship character like Spidey. We'll just have to keep reading Runaways, Young Avengers, Punisher, Daredevil, and the like, and hope Marvel doesn't decide to mess them up, as well.

I would like to see Baby May storyline return . I'd like to see spidey & MJ as parents .

That's never happening as long as Joey Q is in charge regardless of what fans want. I always thought it would offer some great storyline possiblities to see Peter and MJ as parents.

Plus the 1998 Annual dude, I should've sneaked a plus sign in there like I usually do

What has JOeyy Q said on the subject officially, anyway?
