Killer whale kills trainer at Sea World

Killer Whales are very wild animals and are erratic (like any other wild animals). Its a sad case but maybe these animals belong out in the wild instead. They're just too big...maybe it was playing around but when something 1000 times your size starts to engage in horseplay its can be pretty fatal.

Tillikum has killed two other trainers before, in the early 00's I believe. Orca don't eat humans so they don't have reason to attack, plus orca and dolphins tend to bond with their trainers so the "attack" likely wasn't malicious. Chances are, he was playing with her, and didn't quite realize that humans can't hold their breath as long as orca can.

This article has more details on this whale's history:

According to it the same whale is linked to the deaths of Keltie Byrne (a Marine Biology Student) in 1991, and Daniel Dukes (some guy who sounds like he was asking for it) in 1999.

Either set it free, put it down, or quit going in the ****ing tank with something that has killed people.

He should just be removed from performing. All of these incidents seem accidental, and aren't Tilikum's fault.

I have to agree with chase. His fault or not, time for him to retire.

I doubt they'll put him down for this. The bad press alone would be too much. Retiring him from performing is the best choice.

Another example for why I believe intelligent animals like Orcas, dolphins & apes shouldn't be kept in zoos. Animals like reptiles & fish, sure. They're stupid & don't give a crap. But these animals aren't stupid & have feelings, they shouldn't be locked up.

Also, killer whales are kind of endangered, so I don't think putting it down is legal.

Honestly, though, Killer Whales are not only intelligent, but are one of the few species other than humans that show signs of culture. And they're generally much healthier and live longer in the wild. having them in captivity is kind of messed up.

I just heard about this...such a terrible tragedy. I agree with everyone else though, it's time for this whale to retire.

Having creatures as intelligent as whales, dolphins, and apes in captivity, doing tricks for people, is all kinds of messed up in the first place, IMO.

I'll give you the "certain animals are less intelligent than others and likely won't mind captivity as much", but even animals such as reptiles and fish have feelings and can experience emotions both positive and negative.

Let me tell you that fish are evil. Everytime I put my hand in my fish tank, they go killer piranha on me.

Killer Whales aren't fish, they're Cetaceans. Biologically, they have more in common with dogs than with fish.

I know what they are. People were talking about caged animals and aggression and I assure you that tiny little fish don't like it either.

You know it's strange that stuff like this doesn't wind up on youtube more often. I mean, people always bring their video cameras to theme parks like SeaWorld, you would think someone would've caught it.

Fook you, Dolfeen and Whrallllllllleeeeee.

I must confess, I always wondered if an Orca had the jawline neccessary to threaten a human. Tragically, now I know.

This still seems weird to me. Even playful Orcas never kill people and judging by the report of what happened, the whale was not playing. I wonder if there is perhaps a chemical imbalance in the water? It seems orcas only attack people at this one aquarium, which is suspicious.

The whale probably was playing. They don't know that humans can't hold their breath as long as they can. Trust me, if the intent was to kill, there'd be little left of this woman. They don't call them killer whales for nothing.

Seems the hit movie Orca is now a true story.

Killer Whales kill? Whoda thunk it?

TEDDY?

Not all animal names are accurate. Komodo Dragons aren't dragons. The Blue-Footed Booby doesn't have boobs. The Titmouse is actually a bird.
