A New 3D King of Fighters Game Is In Development. August 5, 2014 . 12:42am

“Indeed, a new installment in 3D in the KOF series is currently in preparation,” a SNK Playmore representative said to Siliconera.

SNK Playmore recently updated their website with a staff recruitment page for a new King of Fighters game, which looks like it will be a 3D fighter for the series’ next installment.

According to the page they’re currently looking for a game programmer with experience in console games, various development tools and middleware, a technical designer who can handle high-end graphics, and a CG designer who’ll work on 3D and high-end character models to go with character animations and more.

Siliconera got in touch with SNK Playmore to ask whether it’ll be a 3D game, to which they responded, “Indeed, a new installment in 3D in the KOF series is currently in preparation.”

The new King of Fighters game and its platform will be announced in the near future.

SNK Filed A Criminal Lawsuit Against Square Enix For Copyright Infringement. August 6, 2014 . 1:14am

SNK recently filed a criminal lawsuit against Square Enix for usage of SNK’s intellectual property without prior consent from the company.

SNK and Square Enix are in a dispute, and we don’t mean in a friendly cross-over fighter, either. SNK recently filed a criminal lawsuit against Square Enix for usage of SNK’s intellectual property without prior consent from the company.

To summarize what’s been going on, it appears that Square Enix have infringed on numerous intellectual properties of SNK Playmore through their popular manga, called High Score Girl, which is about arcade gaming featuring various video game characters.

According to SNK Playmore, the infringement came to light when the anime adaptation of the arcade manga was in the works, and the animation studio contacted SNK to ask about their usage of characters and music in the show. As it turns out, SNK’s content has been used in the manga all this time without their consent.

While they don’t go too far into detail about what exactly was used in the High Score Girl manga, SNK Playmore claims that there were over 100 instances where characters from the King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown were used without consent.

SNK Playmore say they attempted to contact Square Enix on the matter, but did not receive a proper response, which eventually led to their filing of a criminal lawsuit against the company through the Osaka police back in May of this year.

Yesterday, on August 5, the Osaka police raided Square Enix’s office located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, along with other concerned parties, which violated copyright infringement laws.

Investigations are currently ongoing and more details will be available upon further interrogations and evidence inspection.

Chinese Company Plans To Turn SNK Playmore’s Games Into Anime, Movies, Television Shows. August 6, 2015 . 3:30pm

Leyou Technology, a Chinese company, has finalized a deal to acquire SNK Playmore.

Leyou Technology, a Chinese company, has finalized a deal to acquire SNK Playmore. It plans to branch SNK Playmore’s games into other media following the “Marvel formula,” such as comics, movies, and television (thanks DreamCancel).

Apparently, the appeal of acquiring SNK Playmore was the large number of game IPs and all the tie-ins they’re involved with. This means that in due time you could see The King of Fighters, Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown, and any other SNK Playmore game get the multimedia treatment.

As to the details of the deal itself, apparently two different companies, Oriental Securities and Shunrong Sanqi (a Chinese online gaming giant), that entered a joint venture to invest in Ledo Millennium, which is a subsidiary of Leyou Technology. And so, through Ledo Millennium, they will pay 63.5 million USD to acquire 81.25% of SNK Playmore’s shares directly from SNK Playmore’s former CEO Eikichi Kawasaki and his wife Natsuyo Kawasaki.

The CEO of Oriental Securities, Zheng Jianhui, said that he looks forward to collaborating with other Chinese companies to games, anime, manga, television shows, and movies based on SNK Playmore’s games.

I love King of Fighters games, including the Maximum Impact 3D installments, but all the breast shaking......

With better graphics, it will be harder to control myself looking closer at the ladies.

I love breast shaking in KOF games.

well if you look at the date they they were stagnet most likely due to the law suit the there was a fallow up article in the offical FF thread where square counter sued and since then the makers of SNK were quite. too quite til this Chinesecompany bought them to make anime shows. which people took notice of inthe comment's area so that's why I bother with this. so it's likely that this 3d game will resume.

the silence could mean the project was dead for a good while since.

They've been overly quite & it's possible they had suspended the project of the game since then. a 3d KOF would be cool.

Finally new news since after they'been bought off by the chinies company.

so another PS4 exclusive fighting game??

It was announced at Sony's TGS press conference, so there wasn't mention of other platforms besides the PS4, obviously. There's not been a non-Japanese press release about it as far as I know, so it may just be exclusive for the region. There were a few titles revealed at the conference that we're not sure are worldwide PS4 exclusives or not as of yet.

good point.

I suppose until they come out and say "exclusively on PS4" you can never be certain.

Well, this looks pretty disappointing so far.

Since there's been no mention of another platform since it's reveal, I guess this is PS4 only.

We'll see if it changes but I have no problem with it being moved.
here's the latest

SNK Playmore Is Done With Pachinko Machines, Will Re-Focus On Video Games. November 4, 2015 . 2:30pm

Bye bye pachinko machines. Hello The King of Fighters XIV (and other games).

SNK Playmore has announced that it has stopped making pachinko slot machines and will be re-focusing its efforts on making console and smartphone games (thanks Dream Cancel).

The Japanese company started making pachinko machines back in 2004 but due to a dwindling demand for them and regulatory changes causing uncertainties in the pachinko business, the effort has now been dropped entirely.

For now, it’s full-steam ahead on projects such as The King of Fighters XIV and leveraging other popular IPs including Metal Slug and Samurai Spirits. The recent partnership with Chinese company Ledo Millennium will be used to create synergy in the mobile games sector.

Staff that were previously geared towards working on pachinko machines will be assigned to the games division.

I didnt realize this series has finally made the jump to 3D models. It was one of the few sprite based fighters left and I wonder why they kept that up for so long bc that tends to be more expensive. The screenshots look good though

Definitely wont happen anytime soon consider SNK nor Capcom are in the best financial position but Id kill for them to collaborate again and make a Capcom Vs SNK 3. CvS2 was the best crossover game they did

It's actually not the first game to be 3D. I think most of the PS2 era games were 3D.

No this series has always been 2D. The PS2 had 5 games (KoF 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, XI) and they were all sprite based. You are thinking of Maximum Impact which was a 3D spinoff in the same way that Street Fighter EX was and that had 2 games. This is the first time the main series has gone with 3D models

Ah well, I did think Maximum Impact was part of the main series

Comparison Video Between The King of Fighters XIV And XIII Shows Some Similarities. November 10, 2015 . 6:30am

The King of Fighters XIV’s latest video shows us a comparison of the graphics and speed between the upcoming title and The King of Fighters XIII.

Not much is known about SNK Playmore’s upcoming fighter, The King of Fighters XIV, but YouTuber ATRyoSakazaki put together a nice comparison video with it and the previous title to give us an idea on how it compares. [Thanks, Shoryuken.]

While the character designs and graphics might look completely different in The King of Fighters XIV, as far as gameplay goes, the video shows that it’s not that different from its predecessor than we first thought.

The King of Fighters XIV will release in 2016 for PlayStation 4.

Wow this my favourite fighting games ever, but kof series 1996-2000 and kof xiii is more fun to play it

The game will have 50 fighters which is a heck of alot more than I expected, especially with this using a new engine on a new console generation
