James Mangold is attached to direct the untitled romantic comedy formerly known as Wichita and Trouble Man at 20th Century Fox, reports Variety. It's eyed as a potential pairing of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

Scott Frank is working on a rewrite.

Mangold's Tree Line Films partner Cathy Konrad joins as producer with Joe Roth, Steve Pink and Todd Garner.

The story revolves around a woman who has terrible luck with men but finds her path intertwined with that of a mysterious handsome man she meets on a blind date.

Cruise and Diaz appeared together in 2001's Vanilla Sky.

Nooooooo! :csad: run Tom! this is at Fox and a rom com, he has much better projects on the slate than this, even if I do like Mangold as a director and Cameron Diaz is always fun.

Lol - I think I mentally blocked out the part that said "20th Century Fox." Has Tom ever done anything close to a romantic comedy? I guess Jerry Maguire had some elements of a rom com. I can't stand Cameron Diaz, though. Hopefully the "potential pairing" doesn't work out and another actress comes on board.

She can stay on board, Tom needs to get off board like he had a firecracker up his jacksie.

Heh. No firecrackers up there for Tom, he might start jumping on couches again :cwink:

That's actually given me a good idea for a film...

Tom Cruise as Guy Forks, an American secret agent with a boffy hair-do, sent to London to blow sh** up using the latest technology - matches and fireworks.

Even History Isn't Safe.

dundundun dun dun dun dun.

this could be as bad as when Russell Crowe did a romantic comedy directed by Ridley Scott

Maybe he wants to try his hand at comedy again after his role in Tropic Thunder.

I'm not surprised Cruise is choosing to do this film over the more actiony stuff he was considering. He lost a lot of female fans over his stupid post-partum depression comments. My mother, who is the sweetest woman in the world, hates him. He's trying to get his female fanbase back. Yeah, good luck.

While it's not a project either of us wanted (mainly Motorcade), the upside is it is James Mangold so it could work out.

The article does say it came down to this and Motorcade, kinda surprised he went with this.

It's at Fox though man, I smell total disaster. :csad:

Fox has become a shadow of its former self since the days of Minority Report though...

Even back then though Eggy they were butchering Daredevil.

Don't I know it. :(

They've just become more consistant since lol.

i guess FOX had balls to control Scott. but they didnt have to push Spielberg and Cruise.

Haha! that is true, I just wonder if Cruise would sign on to a controlled project when he had other options. I guess one thing is that at least it's not a reboot, remake or sequel. :D

At least it's not the rumored "Mission Impossible IV"
