The latest Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Kickstarter update is asking for feedback on different character and background styles for the game.
Here’s a brief look:

Here’s a message from project director Koji Igarashi:
Greetings!
Last time, we turned to the backers for input on which shaders to use in the game. Based on that, we’ve gone back and put tons of time into making improvements. In particular, the background we revealed in the previous update was just arranged for our own experimentation; for this update we’ve put much more detail into it. This may make it easier for you to see which direction we’re aiming for.
Of course, as we add more detail to the background the characters become more prone to blending into the background. Some of you have noticed the characters’ proportions changing in the art and early screenshots—we’re making adjustments as we build the game to maximize the contrast between character and background. We’ve made more changes for this update, and adjustments will likely continue as we get farther into development.
One you may notice is that Miriam has two long ribbons attached to her shoulders now. When we tested her original graphic, it was hard to pick her out against the background, because there wasn’t much on her costume that moved or swayed. (The design of her left shoulder has changed, too, as some of you pointed out; this is the reason why.)
For this third shader, we’ve increased the contrast of the background and edited the lighting to polish the overall effect. The first shader also looks different against a more detailed background, so I think there’s a different effect to that one, too. Which one do you guys like? To be honest, opinions are divided within our team!
We spent an enormous amount of time and effort on this third character shader to create an illustration effect. We tried to get closer to the requests of backers who hoped she would look more like the original design illustrations, and when I first saw this shader, I have to admit I was so impressed I actually gasped.
So we’ve compiled a few options of these background and character shaders put together and would like to see what you think. And, as I’ve pointed out in the latest Ask IGA, this will be our final request for art-direction feedback. I’d like to ask for any final thoughts you have now, so we can move forward and start putting things in motion.

Bloodstained shader feedback results announced

Background 3 / Character 3" is the winner.

The latest Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Kickstarter update reveals the results of the shader feedback the game was seeking back in January.

The game will use the following style, which was dubbed “Background 3 / Character 3” in the January update:

Director Koji Igarashi provided the following comment:
Like the shader poll results, we’ve decided on Character Shader 3 / Background Shader 3. Since the new character shader was so well received, we’ve also made a video of Miriam’s 3D model, reflecting some of the most recent changes we’ve made.

We thought cosplayers would especially like to see the back view of her design. The camera is the only thing that moves in the first half of the video; in the second, we’ve demonstrated the shader effect by moving the light source, as well. Please enjoy.

In this month’s development update, we get to see Miriam moving around on a “grid map,” used by the team to playtest the game before the stages are ready. We also get to see Miriam’s new kick, which IGA’s agent and project partner was quite excited to see.

Here’s a message from IGA:
Hi, everyone! This month we’d like to show you something that few people outside the development team ever get to see: A work-in-progress “grid” map that we’re using to test stage size, scrolling mechanics, enemy placement, and more. I’ve provided some narration to make it easier to see where we’re making progress.

We’re also revealing the katana animation. To provide our animators a reference for the motion, the team filmed me swinging an umbrella. Days after the video shoot I still had some muscle pain, but let’s please keep that between us…

Before I go: A friend of mine has started his own Kickstarter project! His promotional video seems to have been inspired by the video we did for Bloodstained, so it’s definitely worth watching—even though it brings back some embarrassing memories of my own filming day… – IGA

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
, the spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, will be playable at E3 2016 next week at the Microsoft booth, an update on the game’s Kickstarter blog reveals.

“This E3 preview is a simple playable demo and tutorial of this Minerva stage,” creator Koji Igarashi said. “The lesser demons we’ve introduced in the last update (Morte, Seama, and Dullahammer) will appear, and the magi-crystals players will obtain from enemies, also known as “Shards,” will also be included.”

The E3 demo will be released to all $60+ tier backers on June 13. It will be a Windows PC-only demo distributed digitally through Steam. It is not the beta, which is planned to arrive later. If you want the demo but backed less than $60 or haven’t backed at all, upgrading your tier or becoming a backer before June 13 will get you the demo.

Nice. Judging by some pictures I thought it wouldn't look so good in motion but it's great. The movement of the character and the music really reminds me of SoTN.

Now that people have had a chance to enjoy the recent demo for Koji Igarashi’s Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, any new information is as welcome as ever. For the monthly update for August, IGA has released a video showing off animations for many of the weapon types that will be present in the game. Check it out below:
[YT]RLUmih6PlIs[/YT]
Aside from some pretty choice-looking animations, IGA also included a short description of each of the different animations on display:
The kick motion will be be triggered any time you’ve equipped shoes, although Miriam will be able to kick by default. Kicking attacks trade attack speed for diminished range.
Swords and maces are wielded with the single-handed horizontal slashmotion, which is the baseline attack motion as far as speed, range, and power are concerned. Attacking with a mace also causes thrust-type damage.
Short swords and rapiers both utilize a single-handed pierce style, but each type has different range and speed. (Short swords have less range than rapiers, but players can wield them in a continuous attack with the help of some judicious button-mashing.)
Katanas alone receive the single-handed vertical slash motion. This is the animation we based on that umbrella-swinging video!
To wield larger weapons like great swords, axes, and rods, your character will use the two-handed vertical slash motion. Use it correctly and you can deal huge damage to your opponent. Axes are even slower than great swords but deal more damage, while rods are somewhat faster.
Spears receive their own two-handed pierce motion. Their long range can make the difference when engaging an enemy, but their length and slow attack speed could leave you defenseless if you miss.
And of course whips have their own motion. But… it’s different! I won’t say what it’s different from, but it’s not from THAT series. Like you might expect, it takes a while to swing a whip, but your reward is increased range.
Finally, guns use the shooting motion, giving you a projectile attack. But you’ll use up a bullet each time you fire.
Not only that, but IGA also announced that backers who donated enough to reach the Runic Forging tier (that is at least $2,000) would now be able to submit their own designs for any of those 12 weapon types for possible inclusion in the game. So, if you were one of the few lucky enough — or rich enough — to give at that level, you’d better get cracking!
With Bloodstained set for release in 2017, the game is certainly shaping up to be something great. Weapons are pretty great, but hopefully we’ll get to see more updates on the characters, monsters and environments to be in the game in the near future.

Koji Igarashi Says The Status Of Bloodstained’s Wii U Port Is A “Very Complicated Problem” . October 6, 2016 . 9:00am

Seeing as that, by 2018, many Wii U users will have likely moved on to the NX, Igarashi noted that “it’s a very complicated problem,” further saying that certain pieces of hardware eventually become irrelevant.

Inti Creates’ Metroidvania game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is set to release worldwide early in 2018 for multiple platforms. However, in a recent interview with IGN, the game’s producer, Koji Igarashi, expressed his concerns with the relevance of the game’s Wii U version, considering the approaching release of the NX.

Seeing as that, by 2018, many Wii U users will have likely moved on to the NX, Igarashi noted that “it’s a very complicated problem,” further saying that certain pieces of hardware eventually become irrelevant. “And as a creator,” he went on to explain, “usually you want to make stuff for the new hardware. That’s the reality.”

However, while abandoning the Wii U port of Bloodstained seems the logical choice in this matter, the game was funded by many Kickstarter backers, and a Wii U version was part of that “promise” made by the developers. Despite this, Igarashi explained that, if the team does receive support from the majority of the game’s backers, they may indeed proceed down a different path and perhaps do things “that are maybe more interesting.”

To read the full interview with Koji Igarashi, you can head over to IGN’s official site.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will release for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, and Xbox One in Q1 of 2018.
