Kong: Skull Island - Part 3

That is sad, I always seen that detail as a separating King Kong from the dozens of movie, cartoon, and comic rip-offs. What makes it King Kong vs. Generic Giant Gorilla. Ah well, now I feel better holding out for video.

Crazy to think they wasted Brie Larson. Wow.

They are simply telling a different story here and it is refreshing. His characterization is established through interaction with more than just one character. I would recommend seeing it on the biggest screen possible.

It's a fun movie. Still like Godzilla more even though this one is more fun and action packed. Maybe it's because Zilla had less screentime than Kong.

Kong's CG could have been better.

4/5

I am not to bothered about them maybe botching the human characters as long as Kong is done right. Seeing g this next week

Kong IS done right, but seeing as you're spending most of the runtime with the human characters it's pretty important that they're done right as well. If not, you might as well watch a YouTube compilation of his fight scenes.

I thought the humans in Jackson's King Kong were much more well rounded.

Can I wait for this to come on Netflix or is this one of those 'cinema experience' type of films?

The grand scale of everything makes it a good blockbuster to see in theatres.

For me, Jackson's remake lingered too much on the secondary characters, who weren't that engaging. Naomi Watts was the only human character who was well rounded in that film. Every time I pop the movie in, I skip straight to the Kong and Ann scenes. Those ultimately redeem the film.

Kong: Skull Island's characters were less fleshed out, but most of them have a personality. Ironically, I was most disappointed with Brie Larson. She doesn't hold a candle to what Watts did in the 2005 film.

Checking this out tomorrow, so I have one question for you guys.

Compared to Godzilla in G14, how much screentime does Kong have in this? A little bit more, about the same, etc.?

I'd find it weird if a Kong film wasn't a good cinematic experience at the very least.

Kong's scenes make it a must-watch on the big screen.

It was such a great moment to see the Octopus scene which was straight out of King Kong vs. Godzilla 1962

I loved Jacksons Kong.

But even if the humans are poorer in this one, it will just make anticipate the King scenes more. I will see for myself next week.

Having seen the film I have to say I clearly liked it. You truly get to feel the Ape being an ancient "super species" and etc. There is one very serious question which comes up though.... (Not that it wasn't there before) :

- How is Kong going to fight Godzilla 2020??? I know that he will continue to grow a lot as now he is very young and I know that he will surely reach a size to rival the one of Godzilla 80-110 meter range and I know that he has super strength and whatever but he is just a huge piece of meat.... Atomic breath is going to vaporize him.... It's surely not just a matter of size. Godzilla survived nukes.... This 100 meter gorilla needs a bomb over its head and is gone....

The thing I am certain though is that the fully grown Kong we are about to see in 2020 will be one of the most awesome sights to behold in all the history of movie monsters. He was 30 meters tall in this one and inspired so much awe and a feeling of being puny. I can't imagine what he will be when he reaches 90-100 meters.

Legendary just culled together a writers' room to work on that movie and address those issues you brought up.

one question for they who already watched the movie how long it takes til we see the after credits scene is it like the Marvel Studios Movie or the X Men Movies til the very End ?

Very end.

Saw it last night and was pleasantly surprised. The trailers didn't make it look like anything special, but Kong ended up entertaining the hell out of me. The human characters could have used some extra polish, but since this was Kong's movie I was happy that the big monkey was extremely cool. It wasn't as good as 2014's Godzilla, but I left the theater giddy for their VS match coming soon.

Kong: Skull Island made 3.7 million in Thursday night previews. It's on course to rake in somewhere between 40-50 million OW at this point.

That doesn't sound good.

Yup, the movie has a 180 million budget so it needs around 450 million to break even. Domestic BO will be just okay/average but the overseas BO will hafta save the day for Kong. I hope this does huge numbers in foreign markets.

^^ I was about to post this.

Deadline usually stays on the lower end of the projections so maybe 50-55 million OW isn't out of the question. Go Kong.

Kong still has a ways to go before being considered profitable for the studio, but credit must be given to Warner Bros for that last minute momentum shift. Most people, including me weren't even sure it would crack $40M OW, especially when the buzz has felt so low for weeks, but the early screenings combined with those really positive reviews definitely saved this movie somewhat. That last trailer came out at the perfect time too by creating a bit more excitement, but I still hate the fact it gave so much away.

They are simply telling a different story...

And that there is just why I take issue with it. They change the story so much, it's not King Kong anymore, but Kongatitus: Mutant Ape God. That link of Kong and the Woman is what makes it Kong.

At least I hear it's entertaining. But I really have been sceptical of it. This stuff just tells me to wait.
