Richards lost his temper and turned into an *******. It's obvious he's not meant to do standup. What's sad is that for the past week or so, I keep remembering what I thought was a hilarious Kramer moment(which is saying something since I've never cared much for his character) when he tried baking his pants in the oven and he starts arguing with the Italian pizza guy in his own faux jargon. Now it's not quite as funny.

While I have heard this argument before, I do not buy it. We as a people have progressed...while using the word amongst ourselves. I don't see that chaging because we continue to use the word.

We have progressed and will will continue to, in spite of our shortcomings, however there are things we can do as a people to expedite it.

The words we use and allow into our mind...that's pretty powerful...but I feel like it's missing something

What is missing is reflection. Words and Ideas require it in order to expand our horizons. The more we think the better we get at it. After than, we should let our thinking seep into our hearts. Remember, the bible says, "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."

Anyway, you have your views and I have mine. I will continue to do what I do and you continue on with what you do. I'm sure we will meet in the middle somewhere down the line.

Thats a good policy. After all I think we both want what is best for our community.

2) They don't bear responsibility for slavery, but they do bear responsibility for helping perpetuate institutional racism by not fighting it hard enough, since it benefitted them, and just for reaping the benefits of the suffering of others, and since that suffering can be traced to a specific practice in history, it's easy to see why certain people should be compensated.

Prove that a poor immigrant family from Germany, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Japan, China, or other countries benefitted from racism and that they reaped the benefit from something that happened BEFORE THEY ARRIVED.

As for reparations, it shouldn't be "everyone who is white pays". No. It should be based on genealogies that can prove that a family member in their past owed slaves. Those genealogies that show that a family immigrated to this nation after slavery was outlawed should be exempt from any reparations, since they had nothing to do with it.

I have been confused by how foul-mouthed some Muslims are. The Bible forbids profanity, and you know I know very little about the Quran, but it hardly seems like something Allah would endorse.

People claim standards all the time that they either struggle to conform to or have no intention of following. So in that respect there are just as many foul-mouthed people of other faiths as well.

What happened in the past happened in the past. I don't think people today who had nothing to do with slavery should somehow make reparations to those their forefathers had enslaved. I'm not racist in the slightest, and I wish people of every color the best, but I'm not going to go pay people or help them somehow if it takes food out of my own kids' mouths. Yeah, jonty has said the same thing about how no one is perfect. But to me it's different when you're posting on message boards, 'cause you have the ability to edit, and there's a time before you hit post, so words have more intent than say, if you hit your thumb with a hammer and reflexively yelped out, "S***!".

It's like, if you got drunk and had pre-marital sex with this woman one night, you screwed up and then you can repent, but you can't live in sin, in the same apartment with your girlfriend, having pre-marital sex with her, and then claim to be a follower of a religion that forbids it, trying to "repent" every day.

Richards made an apology via satillite on Letterman last night, prompted by Jerry Seinfeld (who was a guest on last night's episode), it was hard for him to do (It was a very uncomfortable situation), but he flat out admitted that he just screwed up. No drugs or alcohol to make an "excuse." He didn't make any bones about it. I didn't see the entire thing, just clips on the morning news. But it was clear he was near tears.

The audience had the gaul to laugh like Richards was trying to be funny. Seinfeld actually had to seriously tell them to stop it.

I know there's a lot of skeptics here, but I buy his apology. Given that he's worked with plenty of blacks throughout his career, I really think it was more just that he was mad at the guy and lost his judgement and decided to really try to insult the guy by bringing race into it. Even his "inturrupt the White man" junk sounded slightly sarcastic.

So....are willing to accept Mel Gibson's apology? Mel had been drinking. But he never said that the booze did it!!

Why would you think that? No one would attack him or heckle him. He wouldn't have it easy, but it's doable. I actually think if he's as good a comedian as some are saying he is (I don't know...only seen him on Seinfield) then he should have plenty of fodder from his own actions to keep the joint laughing.

I think everyone can understand someone making a mistake, but it takes a special kind of person to own up to it. Richards would be doing that by going on Apollo, and no one would heckle him.

Yeah, I watched it and I felt sorry for the dude. He looked out of it, but I though he looked genuiely flustered which is understandable considering all that had happened.

This has to be very traumatic for him. He's not a successful comedian like Seinfield, and the comedy circuit is probably how he was making most of his money. He'll have a hard time getting any bookings and that will hit him in the pocketbook.

If he truly doesn't nurse that type of hate in his heart, and this was just a moment of anger that got out of control...I hope he takes up the invitation to go to the Apollo.

We black folk tend to get mad easily, but we forgive easily as well

Yeah, him bringing up Hurricane Katrina was weird. Also, he kept refering to blacks as Afro-Americans. I don't know if he's insincre or just not up with the times. This came after a night of calling blacks "******s."
He didn't give a reason at all. He just talked about how innapropriate it was. And he tried to make Dave feel bad for telling jokes?
He's lucky Seinfield was there, because I have a feeling Letterman would have bagged on him.
