Sony Spin-Off Kraven The Hunter

Talk about cutting this thing down at the knees. I mean, this announcement won’t make or break the box office, but anyone who was remotely on the fence might see this and go “actually….nah”.

I think if there was any possibility of this doing well, they wouldn't be putting this out there. They know the movie is DOA.

The pre-sales and tracking tell the studio all they need to know. If somehow this waaaaaaaay overperforms, they could always change their minds. But that is highly unlikely

Oh for sure, I just don't know what the point is of double-tapping it in public. Are they hoping it has the opposite effect and people are like "oh my god, this is the last garbage ass movie from Sony? WE MUST SEE IT!!!".

The biggest downside of all this is that we're not likely to see Kraven in a Spider-Man movie anytime soon, but hey, at least when he finally does show up in those he most certainly won't be played by ATJ. Nothing against the guy but I thought he was a strange choice for Kraven, and not just because he already played Pietro in the MCU.

Its insane, because their original plans for this stuff was leaked ten years ago and it was so embarrassing for them they had to go crawling to Marvel and Disney to make a deal to put Spider-Man into the MCU. People were clowning on them for talking about doing an Aunt May spinoff. Everyone said this **** would never work when they wanted to do it ten years ago.

But then they made Venom and it was successful, and it gave them a false sense of security that this **** could work, and look what happened. Everyone was right the first time.

Yeah, I get old yellering this universe. But, why would you publicly announce this NOW? Why not wait like....2 weeks. It's weird

I mean that decision was made when they decided to make this piece of trash.

I just got out of the film. It's the Temu version of a Marvel superhero film. No one talks or acts like a human being. It feels like it was written and directed by AI.

There are some good kills and gore if you like that, but I never found the action all that exciting.

They know this is going to flop. Also they didn't publicly announce it, it's just getting reported by the trades.

If they wanted the trades to hold off on that story, they could have done it. Letting this get out before release is just dumb. Flop or not

It's not going to make a difference Spider-Fan. Sony is only putting this out in 3,000 theaters. They know this is DOA. Now they are simply in damage control mode.

Even so, it's not good business to openly put out news like this before releasing a movie. Regardless how bad its going to perform, and yes this will do poorly, the goal should always be to maximize the BO. Openly advertising this is DOA before release is only going to make your movie lose more money. It doesn't cost anything to wait 2 weeks for damage control

Good business would've been to never make this movie or the Sony Spider-Man Universe and trying to make an expanded Spider-Man Universe not connected to the MCU using just Spider-Man supporting characters and villains who never meet or interact with Spider-Man.

But we're not in the universe where they didn't make the movie. They made it. Money was spent. It doesn't make sense to burn your own movie prior to release. It's just dumb

It doesn't make sense to give Kraven his own movie in the first place, but nothing about these decisions have ever made any sense.

I don't buy the very generous spin from Sony that some (John Campea) are parroting, that they are stopping this universe "for now". Its dead, Jim. Its not coming back.

Its absolutely dead. If ANYTHING maybe we may see Venom again in some way.

Its out in my country tomorrow. Thanks to youtube ads for reminding me.

I'm contemplating whether to see this tomorrow, or the weekend. I'm thinking weekend because, I watched Venom 3 in a very cold cinema during a weekday, and there were like 7 other people. And I doubt more people are gonna watch this in a Wednesday...
After seeing the 15% from Rotten Tomatoes, I think I'll skip this now in theaters and just wait for it to come out next month.

I don't like breaking my routine of watching every Marvel movie in the cinemas. Since 2006, the only ones I've missed seeing in the big screen were The New Mutants (because of the pandemic) and Punisher: War Zone. But I don't think paying this time for a ticket is worth it, especially this holiday season when I have other things to buy/pay.

That 15% rating months after Madame Web (11%) is horrible. This is possibly the worst collection of Marvel movies ever? Six films with poorly reviews, which is double the amount of Fox's FF movies.

And it's been a failure from the get-go. This is what I didn't foresee, this is what I knew when they started talking about this before the release of Amazing Spider-Man 2. I knew this in the very fiber of my bones over 10 years ago.

This is like the Temu Sony Marvel version of Catwoman.

Was Rhino ever a crime boss in the comics? My recollection is he was always a thug and kind of a dumb moron, not very bright. Yet the movie makes him a criminal mastermind and crime boss.

I don't think he ever was. As far as I know, he was just hired muscle or, like you said, a thug and not very bright.

I am fine with making some modifications to characters such as if you want to elevate Rhino to crime boss, then go ahead. If the movie is good, it won't bother me. But if the end result is bad, then people will complain. But I am going to guess that particular change is the least of the movie's problems
