Kristen Wiig IS Cheetah

Fans like to think they know better, but the fact of the matter is Patty Jenkins is closer to this situation than anybody. She knows what this movie is, and she knows what this character is. Taking everything that she knows into account, she decided on Kristen Wiig. I'd say her input is more valuable than those armchair casting directors'.

Well I certainly remember that fanboys wanted Crispin Glover to play Joker in TDK, Megan Fox to play Catwoman in what became TDKR, Dylan O'Brien to play Spiderman in CACW, Clive Owen to play James Bond in Casino Royale, Jon Hamm to play Batman in Batman vs Superman , Gina Carano or Jamie Alexander to play Wonder Woman in BvS.

At the same time, fans were pretty much against the casting of Evans as Cap, Downey as Stark, Ruffilo as Banner, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Hathaway as Catwoman, Hardy as Bane, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Maguire and Holland as Peter Parker, Fishburne as Perry White, and the list goes on and on.

Fanboys really haven't been the best barometer as to which actors are best for roles in these films. The only "fan" choices which really turned out to be good were Bale as Bruce Wayne and Patrick Stewart as Professor X.

Kristen has done a number of serious films in the last few years so she is capable, I wonder if they're going for the Rebirth origin?

Fans also tend to complain about "predictable/obvious" casting choices and say that they want "outside the box" picks. But then when they GET the latter, they complain about the person being "wrong for the part."

You cannot win if you're a casting director sometimes.

Calm down Greg, it's just comic book movies. Just enjoy the hyperbole and hypocrisy.

You can, because fanboy-talk doesn't really matter. Sensible fan talk can help but otherwise you answer to your bosses who judge you on how well your picks turn out. Usually you have the job because you're better at it then the fans with no experience who are suggesting the same few people for every role. :woot:

Well, they usually don't win with the initial announcement , but a year or two later fanboys praise the "outside the box" casting choice when it works, and then act like they never opposed it, ala Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

The studio wanted Stone. Patty then chose Wiig. This is according to the scoop.

It's still a strange differential between the two actresses. I tend to wonder if there's been some wires crossed somewhere along the lines, that maybe we're getting two villains and Wiig is being line up for one of them.

That would've been good, tho. :o

Emma Stome would boost the marketing, perhaps allure some critics to have positive sentiment.
Maybe thats why studio aimed her, if rumours are true.

I'd have accepted Stone or Wiig since I don't have some personal demand for how Cheetah should be portrayed. Wiig intrigues me more because she really is the opposite of Gadot. Stone would have been as well to an extent , though Wiig is a much sharper contrast .

Either way , Jenkins and WB clearly aren't going by whatever criteria fanboys think should be required to be cast in the part.

It's not quite that strange. Wiig is not the typical Hollywood leading lady, while Stone is. Patty had her choice but the studio wanted someone younger and more conventionally attractive.

It happens quite a lot. The director or writer have someone unconventional in mind, but then the studio wants someone who will look good on the cover of Maxim.

So sexy photoshoots?:o

Nudes, bro. You are so behind the times.

That is exactly why it's strange. Wiig is not a leading lady type of actresses, she more of an ensemble actress.

Cheetah isn't a leading lady role, either. It may be a lead role, but it's also quite possible it's a supporting lead. But a "leading lady" is the principal female role, but one of several fe male roles. The leading lady in this franchise is Gal Gadot.

I think I'm beginning to see why Marvel stays away from big named actors. They choose to make their actors A-list instead of buying ones that start there and putting them as headliners in most cases. That way they don't have to contend with the comparisons. Or at the very least they put them in the right roles (Sam Jackson).

After seeing Wiig as Erin Gilbert I'm concerned we'll get that as Barbara. I'm hoping it works out like the Ruffalo Hulk thing. However, she's supposed to be a villian and while she has the stature and build to start with I don't see her as having the "edge" to her that someone like Katheryn Winnick, or Olivia Wilde does. Maybe that's the point but it seems off for a villian.

Patty did well with the first one so hopefully she'll get the right performance out of Wiig.

Wiig played her character in Ghostbusters (which she did not write herself) as it was supposed to be played. And honestly I didn't hate her actual performance, the writing for her character was just terrible.

Also after seeing her casually
Shooting people point-blank in the face with shotguns
in mother!, I'm not too concerned with the "edge" thing either.

^ I dunno she looked like an emotionless cult member to me in that scene.

I can only imagine they're trying to portray the character sympathetically. The Cheetah thing might play out like a werewolf situation - not a voluntary change, but something forced upon her that sends her life spiraling out of control. A curse, basically. And casting a likable/generally comedic actress plays right into that.

I could be way off, but that’s my best guess. Maybe Jenkins just likes Kristen Wiig.

That's the whole point.

Again no edge, or strength of will that we'd see in a villian like Cheetah. She's more of a follower there.

I'm not saying she can't. Just that I haven't seen it.

If he were cast now, there would be an even bigger uproar. Rightfully so, since Bane is a Latino and not a White Eastern European (or whatever he was in TDKR).

Anyway I trust Patty, so we'll see what happens with Kristen.

If they're going for the Rebirth origin then making Barbara Minerva a tragic figure who Diana failed to save could work.

Well there was some commentary about that at the time , but the vast majority of the backlash about Hardy was that fanboys didn't think he was buff enough to play the role.

They also didn't think Hathaway or Gadot were fit, nor hot enough, to play Catwoman and Wonder Woman.

Bane is actually half-Latino and half-British in the comics. His father is King Snake, a British villain. His mother was Latino.
