Punisher 2
[FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]May, 2007

There's been a lot of noise about the fate of this project. Just wanted to clear up my role in Punisher 2. This is my opinion based on my participation, and my opinion only. Yes, I did a recent draft of the script for Marvel and LGF. It was a page-one re-write, a re-invention of a previous story. As far as I know, it is the most current draft. But, that was the end of January, so I'm not certain.

I don't know why Tom Jane has dropped out of the project. Apparently, he has said that he was unhappy with the script. If that's the truth, I guess my draft didn't jive with his vision. Not the first time I've missed the mark, probably not the last...

I do however find it somewhat hard to believe that a studio would let a star walk away from a project based on a "script issue". Movies, especially comic book projects, often have a score of writers doing drafts. Normally, if a star was unhappy with a draft, they'd scrap the script and bring in someone else to rework it.

I do hope the project moves forward -- with whatever script. I'm a big fan of the Punisher. I'd love for this movie to be made well. I think it has big potential.

Anyway. More will be revealed. Or not.

I'm not sure what he means by "out of the loop" yet. I'll find out if his script is NOT being used or if he just doesn't know.

What little I heard about it sounds promising. It's definately more violent than the 1st film.

Punish the F-cking Screenwriters
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

I probably shouldn't be excited by this, but it's so brutal that it's fantastic.

From Comics2Film Fan Feed:

...Our scooper, who has been dead on since day one, tells us that he has caroused through the latest draft of The Punisher 2, which was written by Nick Santora (Prison Break) and cleaned up by Kurt Sutter (The Shield). What our scooper tells us is that the script is "f-cking terrible - beyond bad, embarrassingly bad," he continues, "I don't think anyone in their right mind would touch this with a ten foot pole."
-- --
Okay, I'll take f-cking terrible, I'll even own beyond bad, but embarrassingly bad? C'mon, that's just mean. I have no doubt that Scooper is more than qualified to be creative judge and jury. Probably has an Oscar and Pulitzer on the shelf. And I'm sure the only reason he or she remains anonymous, is so that they can continue to fight crime without fear of exposure. I will say that if the most current draft is being judged, that Nick should be exempt from crucifixion. I'm afraid the lions share of f-cking terrible rests on my shoulders.

Dear Scooper, (if that's even your real name) I have to shout out for my brethren scribes. Although we are sometimes deserving of punishment (some of us even demand it), I want to let you know that often the writers in a process like this are not necessarily the ones deserving of flogging. We are usually given very specific parameters of story, world and character, and must crank out the draft in a matter of weeks. Not saying that justifies bad writing, we are paid well for what we do. But at that point in the process we are not given the freedom to re-invent, nor do we have the time to do so. Which indeed, it sounds like Frank Castle needs.

Anyway, I said more would be revealed. And I ****ing got it.

Peace. Please.

You tell 'em Kurt. Taking the bullet like that is awesome and really classy in a colorful way. :) I'm shocked Lionsgate is screwing around like this though it MUST be because they dragged there feet for so long and they're gonna lose the rights.

Is it me or is Kurt even admitting it's not a good script? What I read seems like, "It's not my fault it's bad but I'll take the blame."

His specific parameters excuse more then likely holds up because I think both Prison Break and The Shield are interesting, well structured shows. Marvel needs to flex their new muscle and pressure Lionsgate. Does anyone think Lionsgate is intentionally pushing forward with what they know is crap in order to force Marvel to give them a rights extension? Marvel could go to war but would probably just want minimal compensation to extend the rights and get the thing done right. I'd love to know what's going on behind the scenes right now.

It's just so painfully inconsistent... take three years to churn out what could be a garbage movie... why, so they can keep the license and in another three years make another worthless film? I'm not sure they're looking at it from the "omg the license is going to run out" perspective. I was wondering if Sutter would comment on this and I'm glad he did. I'm also curious to know what makes the name-hiding guy such an expert on judging scripts.

I think Lionsgate was too relaxed and didn't realize they wouldn't have a script the cast and director wouldn't like so soon before they had to start filming.

Now that the propaganda is absolved, why don't you tell us how you guys came about the old leaked script?

Brand new update which gives the real lowdown on Punisher 2. It seems Marvel wanted to make it right and LGF was just being ******ed, and Tom wanted Taxi Driver. I think had Marvel studios and Tom Jane could have worked things out. LGF & Tom...doesn't seem to be even remotely close.

Note: The above blog has a few "colorful" words for those easily offended. LOL Also hopefuly Marcum and Holloway can put this together right.

To tell you the truth I don't want a Taxi Driver movie, I want a Punisher movie. I wish Kurt would have gone with his own vision: "If I had my druthers, I would have crafted an entirely different story, used a different antagonist and would have stuck to the mythology, making Frank Castle the sociopathic, sadistic, broken anti-hero he truly is." -Kurt Sutter

...... Yeah Tom only wanted to make a Taxi Driver movie and not a Punisher movie at all......

Kurt Sutter started a message board on his myspace page where one of the forums is Punisher 2. Go to his page and on the left side you'll see a pic of him and it says Group Message Boards. Click on that.
