I saw the movie COLORs and was wondering. I love that movie. SO are the Bloods and Crips still as popular/strong?

They still have a strong presence , but Hispanic gangs are starting to take their place.

I hear they offer free health insurance now.

It must be crappy health insurance since the Mexican Mafia put a green light on all black gang bangers.

With the MS 13 now prevalent in the US, Yes... You should watch Gangland, it is a series on the History Channel....it is very good.

They have gangs on there I've never even heard of on there. I never heard of FSU or the Satan's Disciples before seeing them on Gangland. I saw some FSU graffiti on my campus a few months ago too. I also never knew they had Crips in Utah and Alaska.

i hate gangs

I hate black gangs the worse. I'm black and even I'm aware of the disharmony amongst them. It would be so obvious to unite amongst each other to prevent hispanic gangs from taking over their territory, but no, instead they fight amongst each other (red and blue) and at the same time complain about "the Mexicans." However all gangs tax their own race and I really think it's time tha the ****ing president would declare these people as terrorists. The **** I care about Afghanistan when 4 Asian kids are driving around the neighborhood with tech 9's and semi automatics? Right next door could be a meth operation, and forget hiking in the hoods, if I stumble upon a marijuana field I'm done! Gangs have absolutely no use to society but to intimidate and extort. They need to go, judiciously and with extreme prejudice. :cmad:

That is a great show.

Gangs are all over the place. If you're not in one or don't cross one then there is really no need to worry about them.

Most gangs were started out of protection of the community. Somewhere along the way the idea got twisted and all most gangs do are kill each other and innocent people in the cross fire.

My view...if you want to join a "gang" so bad join the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, or National Guard. Those are the most useful gangs that we could ever have.

Yeah, back in the day they would have a dance off to settle their differences, or they would use knives and lead pipes, much more effective.

And they were territorial, but they had a code if someone was ****ing with a civilian from their neighborhood...they were crazy ****s, but they were still crazy ****s that defended the hood and the people in it.

When I was in Basic Training, they told us the Army was America's original gang. I think they said that because suspected (former) Hispanic gang members were in our company. It was an MP company.

Pre WW2 Japan serves an excellent example of how gangs should operate. Back in the day in Tokyo many people loved to gamble but if the cops caught you traveling at night they would beat your ***. The Yakuza were afraid of losing money behind this so they offered to ferry people home at night to avoid run ins with the law. The gangs were in place to serve the community not intimidate them. If a yakuza member was harassing a civilian all they had to do was complain to his Oyajii(?) (Boss) and he would be severely punished. Flash forward to Hong Kong, and we see the Triads forming to protect the people from the opression of the invading Japanese. Gangs were a way to help and protect the community from the government by providing the people with protection and goods not allowed by law. Flash forward to the civil rights movement in America and we see the Black Panthers come together to protect people from police beatings and provide day care and meal programs for disadvantaged children. My question is this why can't more gangs operate like this? Surely if any organization wants to stay alive they have to gain the support of the people, take Robin Hood for example, he robbed from the rich and gave to the poor. Why are people risking their lives to be involved in this "phoniness!??" I hate gangs with a passion, they are just a bunch of self serving morons who assemble to harass hard working people. Crips evolved from the black panthers but they are doing nothing to help their community. Crips = Community Revolutions in Progress but the only revolutions Ive seen are more dumbass criminals making it unsafe for anyone to walk the streets at night. Of all the money they can pull in why can't they beautify their communities and help their people? I knew this Crip, I have never hated anyone's guts more than I hated this guy. He would brag to me about raping people despite the fact he has 2 daughters. Beleive that? I won't tell you what I was thinking.... :cmad: He tried to make it clear that he was joking but why would anyone joke like that? The sad part is this is the mentality of those bozos that run around the streets and terrorize innocent people. They are the evidence of why gun laws can't be enforced. Law abiding citizens won't take risks if it involves breaking the law to procure a handgun, but what about the ex felon with 3 priors who can easily get a weapon through connections? I think law enforcement has their hands tied, and what really needs to happen are laws passed to promote community vigilance. I wish they would pass a law where if you can logically prove a gang idiot is harrassing your and violating your safety you can put an end to his life as long as it's in self defense. Treat those baby raping drug dealing idiots like game, place bounties on their heads. They only grow to the level that they are now because they are aware the law abiding community is afraid of incarceration. :cmad:

Very interesting...

hispanic gangs have taken over as the predominant gangs in LA...and in most areas of the USA. ms-13, 18th street, etc. vastly outnumber other gangs, like the bloods and crips.

i've taken quite a few classes on gangs...easy A's, but eye opening as well.

I've been very surprised myself....hell I found out about some gangs in my area that I didn't even know were there.

I've lived in this neighborhood for 20 years, so I've seen these kids grow up, I know who are gang members and who aren't. They play with my dogs, they are very polite to me, but I know they are gang members.

The funniest thing was after Hurricane Ike when I was helping deliver meals on wheels. They sent me into a neighborhood that I did not know at all....as I was unloading my car a group of guys walked up, and it was obvious they were gang members....I thought...well here it is, I'm dead and no food for the needy. Instead, they offered to help me get the meals to the houses faster so that they were hot and fresh. They knew where everyone lived, knew the people, hugged the old women, called them by name.....it was amazing. Scary, but amazing.

Some of them do try and maintain that mafioso code....leave civilians, women and children out of it, and help out the community. But as far as your rivals, all bets are off.

That also helps prove my theory, you say you live in Texas, doesn't everyone and their mama have a handgun over there?

I forgot to mention the End of August rituals that happen in my area, local hispanic gangs gain entry by shooting and killing anyone they see off the street. Supposedly the police put a stop to that, but I dunno... This is why they should be treated like terrorists.

Yeah, they still do that and people are advised to stay indoors. My brother's friend got shot maybe 2 years ago due to this!

people shouldn't be afraid to walk out of their house for ridiculous stuff like this

and that's a shame to me.

It sucks how once-respected groups started getting run my murderous heroin peddlers. I think if certain drugs were legalized (not herion :p ) it would cut off a large chunk of America's gangs' profit.
