A prequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which will explore the origins of the horror icon in the 1970s, the story will begin with the Leatherface character in his teenage years. He resides in a mental institution until he joins a pack of fellow patients who all break out and go on the run from the authorities. The film will mark the eighth overall entry in the franchise, which currently includes, in addition to Tobe Hooper’s original, three sequels, a remake, a prequel to the remake and a modern-day “direct sequel.”

Directed by acclaimed French filmmaking duo Julian Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside, Livid) from a script penned by Seth M. Sherwood, the film stars Stephen Dorff (Blade), Vanessa Grasse (Roboshark), Sam Strike (“EastEnders”) and Lili Taylor (The Conjuring).

I just don't like the sound of this at all

So this has nothing to do with the prequel that was already made? That's...confusing.

Haven't they already told this story, I remember a movie about 10 years ago with the same plot.

How much more convoluted are they going to make these movies?

Lawd. Leave it be.

Hooper's TCM is the only one to see. The rest are all garbage.

Is Sam Strike the one playing Leatherface? :funny:

"He slaughters people, but he's kinda hawt".

1. Stephen Dorff is in this, so that's cool at least.

2. We already had a prequel, and it was HORRIBLE!

3. If you really want to make more of these, then just do another sequel.

and 4. I actually like Hooper's TCM 2 (it's campy fun) and the remake (which was surprisingly decent). The rest, on the other hand, no just no.

The prequel really wasn't horrible. I don't understand everyone's issue with it. I felt it was leagues above the sequels and slightly under the remake and original.

Yeah, the remake is decent. R. Lee Ermey steals the show. The disorientating atmosphere was great. It is the only decent Platinum Dunes film.

The prequel to that film was comedy gold, though.

I did think that the house they used for the Hewitt's in the 2003/2006 flicks was near perfect.

I gotta agree with you there. It lacked a lot of the tension and suspense of both the original and the remake, but that's pretty much because you totally know the movie's outcome before it even starts. There's no "Who will survive and will they be in one piece when they do?" No one survives because otherwise Leatherface wouldn't have made it to the first movie.

But at least they didn't ignore/gloss over the cannibalism aspect of the story, which I feel is an essential element to Leatherface and his whole f**ked up family. I at least gotta give them props for that.

Texas Chainsaw, which I guess is apart of the original continuity? (Ugh)

The only other Young Leatherface film wasn't that great, but it was better than all other TCM movies, save for the original and 2003 remake.

So I'll go into this with cautious optimism, though the mental institution setting sounds odd. If only because him being there makes no sense.

I agree with this. I'm pretty sure the characters (Leatherface, Hitch-hiker, Cook) were supposed to be all related and the result of generations of inbreeding.

This going to be worse than TCM 3D (if that's possible). Out of seven, going on eight installments, only two/three of them are good. A clear sign they either need to retire the franchise or do a better job at finding filmmakers who actually have something to say.

That is not possible.

So they expect me to believe that a bunch of cannibal hillbillies in 70s would institutionalize their inbred son? And they want me to watch Leatherface and Friends as they get into cannibal hijinx.

Yeahhh, I think I'm going to pass on this unless it gets really good reviews, and even then I'll probably wait until I have absolutely nothing better to do with my time before I watch it.

No one ever asked for a teenage Leatherface. He isn't nearly interesting enough or complex enough to warrant an origin story. He is an inbred cannibal that was dropped on his head too many times that went on to have an unhealthy relationship with chainsaws. Does that really need a whole film to explain?

Yes they were brothers in the original & then the sequel introduced Chop Top who was another brother of theirs.

The prequels attitude seemed to be "MORE GORE, MORE MORE!! Because that's scary right." And no, being a bloody and grotesque as possible does not automatically make your movie scary. AND it misses the entire point of the original. Which is even more astounding since the remake, made by many of the same people, actually kind of got that point. So what happened?
