This is the era of returning franchises and seemingly nothing is out of bounds. I am personally kind of getting tires of a lot of Legacy Sequels recently, but I was curious....what is 1 franchise you would like to see get a legacy sequel? Could be a movie that was once in development and never came to be or just one you want to see comeback.

There are 2 movies that come to mind for me right now:

John Carpenter is a favorite director of mine, and while Escape from LA turned out to be a dud I do think that a 3rd film in that series had potential. So I would love to see Escape from Earth finally come to pass. Especially given recent history, I think the time may be right for that movie.

I also do wish Blomkamps' Aliens sequel happened. His record has been spotty in recent years, but I think a true Aliens sequel had more potential than the trash prequels we got.

What say you guys?

The Warriors: Can You Dig it?

Set 50 years later where gangs still run NYC and it's only gotten wilder. Think of it as how different the first Mad Max was to Mad Max Fury Road. There would be a wider variety of gangs with a ton of various gimmicks and fighting weapons. You still have the Warriors team be the main star and a couple of them are related to the original Warriors gang. I would totally get Walter Hill or even George Miller to direct with a $100 million - $150 million budget.

Taking Legacy Sequel to mean not just a sequel, but "Legacy" specific, implying a new character taking up the role from the old?

Old man Zorro Banderas, following the Legend of Zorro, which had an alternate ending, where Alejandro and Elena's kid now adult, takes up the mantle.
Wouldn't have minded seeing that play out, with Old Man Banderas now playing the Hopkins role, passing the mantle to the next gen. and closing out the Banderas series as a trilogy.

Although some might balk at the thought, Zorro was a legacy character almost form the go.
Zorro and his son (both played by Fairbanks) 1925

One of the best incarnations is 1937 Republic Serials: Zorro Rides Again - James (Santiago) Vega, great grandson of Diego, is already fighting mobsters and racketeers, on city roof tops, swinging from buildings, dodging tommy-guns and bullets, using revolvers, and racing in his own black sedan, driven by his loyal ally now Renaldo. All before Batman even existed (1937).

Would love to see the Legacy continued and this Zorro era revisited with his pulp contemporaries The Shadow, the Phantom etc.

The Thing would be amazing. Possibly the only project I can potentially see Carpenter returning to direct.

Back To The Future Part IV would be much more tricky. Unless all the stars are aligned, like MJF agreeing and Zemeckis returning, I wouldn't want it to happen.

I still would love to see Michael Keaton return as Beetlejuice, maybe even more so than Batman. With Tim Burton and Wynona Ryder returning would be the cherry on top.

Also with that, I’d love to see a Mask sequel with Jim Carrey.

Sequel to The Thing 1982 with Wyatt Russell.

Since Kurt previously said Snake is a young man's role, could totally use Wyatt in Escape from Earth if it ever hit made

I’d love to see Steve Barron return to the TMNT franchise, and make a sequel to the 1990 film, ignoring the other ones. But that wouldn’t be possible with the actors much older now, unless they explored the Turtles as adults.

Even if it was a reboot, something in the vein of that, would be amazing!

True. But I wonder once he retires, if he would gift it to another filmmaker to make?

I'm surprised the studios haven't taken his properties and just made their own spin-off projects without him. But I guess there's certain auteurs you just don't pull that with.

Well my understanding was this theme is Legacy specific, meaning it would likely focus on them as older, and maybe passing the mantle to the next gen, hence "legacy "(however that would work with Turtles?
Although we seem to be ignoring that part And just responding to sequels they want to see? Where Legacy has little meaning.

Althou most seem to be ignoring that part.

Or long in development sequels to old franchises that happen after like 20 years. Either lol

A Nightmare on Elm Street. I'd be interested in a story with Heather and Robert coming back.

Weekend at Bernie’s Reborn

Stop or My Granddaughter Will Shoot

Speed 3: Just Forget Cruise Control Ever Happened

Again taking "Legacy Sequel" to actually mean; A new gen legacy character, inheriting the franchise, from the now older character.

Sons of El Topo, pretty much a script for a potential El Topo legacy sequel.

Mathilda, Legacy of Leon, now training some new kid...

Saturday Night Fever/Staying Alive...I want to know what happened to Tony Manero. Did he have a long, successful dancing career, or did he end up living the disappointing life he wanted to escape in SNF?

I wouldn't mind a legacy sequel to classic James Bond, the guy we saw in the first 20 films.

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street with Robert coming back (Nancy is dead if we consider Dream Warriors canon.

2. The Godfather: I know this is controversial, but seeing Michael in a modern world and following the events of Part III, I’d be curious seeing what became of Garcia’s character although it was possibly a sign they should have stopped after Part II.

3. Spaceballs

4. Tron

5. Alien: completely ignore 3 and 4.

6. Kill Bill

7. Mystery Men

8. Constantine

Kill Bill 3 and another “Before” movie from Linklater.

Kill Bill 3. Always on my mind. Nikki is a young woman now.

But like most Tarantino projects, it'll never happen.
I'd love a Kill Bill 3, or rather Kill Bea as it would be called. But the question is, who plays Beatrix's daughter? Do you go for the original actress, Perla Haney-Jardine who's still in the business and even played a small role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, or do you go for a bit more recognizable and cast Uma's actual daughter Maya Hawke who's a lot more famous thanks to Stranger Things? Either way, there's also unfinished business with Elle Driver. I don't buy that she was killed by the snake when she was writhing around blindly in Budd's trailer.

2. The Godfather: I know this is controversial, but seeing Michael in a modern world and following the events of Part III, I’d be curious seeing what became of Garcia’s character although it was possibly a sign they should have stopped after Part II.
We saw Michael's death as a flash forward in the final scene of Part III, it was implied that he retired after what happened to his daughter and died a sad and lonely old man in 1997 according to canon. I kind of remember there were rumors going back maybe 20 or more years ago of a Godfather IV picking up with Andy Garcia's character and Leo DiCaprio rumored to co-star. It could have been interesting but it's better left alone.

Two legacy sequels I wouldn't mind seeing are sequels to some '80s classics, namely:

Think IT: Chapter Two but family friendlier and definitely not whatever is happening with The Goonies on Disney+.

I've been interested in a Gremlins 3 since I was a kid and now seems as good a time as any for it, just as long as there's a focus on puppets and CGI is used sparingly, or at the very least give the CGI models that old school animatronic look like the terror dogs in Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Gremlins
BTTF
Grease
Labyrinth, I know Bowies gone but cast Jermaine Clement in his role and I’ll be happy.
