The studio also said today that the Michael B. Jordan legal drama Just Mercy, which WB acquired from Broad Green Pictures, will be released MLK weekend, January 17, 2020. Directed by Destin Cretton, the film is an adaptation of Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson’s 2014 memoir on his first case, Walter McMillian, a young black man sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. Despite his airtight alibi, McMillian was convicted and spent six years on death row before being exonerated. The date had been set aside for an Untitled WB Film. Gil Netter is a producer on this film.

Just watched this movie. Really emotional. I wish I could I say I was surprised that the sheriff was re-elected 6 more times after McMilan’s release...

I saw this over the weekend. It made me so emotional. God I was so angry and just sad for most of it.

I want to take comfort that something like this won’t happen again but we know that it’s not true.

Tbh I was expecting sort of a run of the mill entry in the genre, but it was actually really affecting and compelling.

In a way, I think it was paint by the numbers but the actors elevated it a lot and our current climate really made it impactful.

I saw it recently and thought it was good. Nothing too flashy but the acting was great. How any of those people can sleep at night knowing the evil things they didn't is beyond me.

My parents saw it in the cinema back when it came out and were very moved by the film. They recommneded I watch it for a while but only recently got around to watching it.

I’m glad the studios are making these movies free for the month. I also saw Selma over the weekend and that was really good too.

They're actually showing this on TBS and TNT right now.
