Iffy on Reigns as Akuma.
They should have cast a Japanese actor.
Not familiar with Akuma. I don’t think I ever played a SF game after The New Challengers, lol. No idea if Roman Reigns can act. What’s the Tariff Chief thing?
Oh wow! LOL
Some of us call Roman the Tariff Chief now since he came out last month as a Trump supporter in an interview.
So disappointing.
“They were making it so people that love the game aren’t going to be turned off by the film. That’s the scariest part of an adaptation: letting down the fanbase,” Danny says. “You have an audience to cater to.”
The brothers even got as far as planning out fight sequences and location-scouting in Thailand, but exited the project due to scheduling conflicts with “Bring Her Back” — a sliding-doors moment they understand as career growing pains.
“We were saying yes to everything, and we weren’t really factoring in time,” Michael says. Adds Danny: “But again, I still would make ‘Street Fighter.’” (Since the brothers’ exit, the adaptation has been taken off Sony’s original March 2026 release date, as the distributor’s deal with Legendary has now expired. It remains in development.)
Momoa as Blanka feels like solid casting. And I will always support Andrew Koji in a lead role. Annoyed that a Trump bootlicker is in the cast but hopefully his part will be small.
I just hope they don’t do something stupid like leave out key figures in the OG cast like the recent MK movie did (as did that awful Chun-Li movie). I know it’s a big ask to include such a big group of people and give them ample screen time but it’s possible, especially if you’re also giving screen time to other characters no one cares about.
Yeah because what everyone wants to see in a Street Fighter movie is Akuma as the main villain because “we need to save Bison for the sequel.”
Ugh.
I mean canonically, Akuma does come first as a main antagonist with Bison in the background a bit, but still, that character deserves a much better actor than Roman Reigns.
Dude can’t even act in his promos that he cuts.
Anyway though, if you were going to do a Ryu/Ken prequel style movie, wouldn’t it be better to make Sagat the main villain? At least he’s a bad guy everyone who played the classic game knows.
You know what, you could. And then at the end you realize that Sagat was really working for Bison and the Shadaloo stuff and that's your sequel hook.
Or you could do it like The Dark Knight and have Akuma and Sagat as your Joker and Two-Face if that makes any sense.
What if Bison appears, and he’s positioned as the villain, only to be taken out by Akuma like in Street Fighter II Turbo?
Remember playing that with my cousin on SNES years ago.
The inclusion of Blanka can’t rule out other characters from II appearing as I previously mentioned.
