Warner Bros Acquiring A. Scott Berg’s Woodrow Wilson Book As Leonardo DiCaprio Vehicle; Appian Way To Produce
By MIKE FLEMING JR

BREAKING: Warner Bros is acquiring Wilson, the just published Putnam biography of Woodrow Wilson, the academic-turned-politician who led the United States into joining the allies in WWI. The deal is being made to develop the film as a potential star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio, with he and Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson Killoran producing with Berg.

The book was 13 years of work for Berg, who won the Pulitzer Prize for his bio Lindbergh. Here, he tells the story of an academic who comes off as the great forgotten president, who, over the course of his presidency at first resisted and then rose to the occasion and led the U.S. into the war, claiming that it would make the world safe for democracy. The studio and Appian Way sparked to the similarities between circumstances surrounding WWI and the current political tensions in places like Syria.

The book humanizes Wilson, who, spent much time trying to convince the Allies not to carve up territory to punish Germany for its role in the war. That argument was largely unsuccessful, but Wilson did hammer through his vision for an International League of Nations, which he got the Senate to ratify.

News of Appian Way’s interest in the book spread this week at a book party for Berg, and Warner Bros came in this morning and has been negotiating all day with CAA to take the book off the table. Lynn Harris will steer the project for the studio.

Berg’s books have often been optioned over the years. Deals have included Steven Spielberg acquiring the Lindberg book; Genius, his book on editor Max Perkins, is being developed with Michael Grandage directing and Michael Fassbender and Colin Firth circling.
lol oh Leo... you are far too young and attractive to be playing this role just yet. :o

leo dont look a damn thing like him lol

Leo's really getting into the biopics lately.

Him as Wilson seems like weird casting but so did J. Edgar and I thought he was pretty good there.

Is it me or does Leo love playing people from the past.

Leo didn't look much like J. Edgar Hoover either, yet he gave a great performance. Tommy Lee Jones didn't look much like Thaddeus Stevens, but the same applies to him. Performance is more important to me than looks.

Gotta get that Oscar love. It hasn't worked out so far, but one day... one day.

The fact that Leo hasn't won an Oscar yet is astounding and absurd, but maybe he's like Al Pacino or Christopher Plummer, he'll get one late in his career after being passed over repeatedly.

I just want Leo to get an Oscar for Wolf. It'd be the most ironic thing ever. The role where's he's actually letting lose gets him the damn thing.

It'd be like after The Godfather, The Godfather Part 2, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, And Justice For All , etc, Pacino finally wins for Scent of a Woman. And what's more ironic, he SHOULDN'T have won that year, Denzel Washington should have.

Leo sure is after that Oscar. He wants his very own Lincoln.

I think it's funny that people assume that he is going to get nominated this year. Everyone said he was going to get a nom for J. Edgar and Django and he didn't. I won't assume anything. You never know what's going to happen.

I don't care if he doesn't get nominated this year. It'd be nice but in the end Wolf of Wall Street looks like a fun time.

he will get it someday his titanic co star winslet took 6 noms before she won

Gary Oldman JUST got his first NOMINATION for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Peter O'Toole never won an Oscar. Kevin Bacon has never been nominated. Meanwhile, Nic Cage HAS won and Oscar. Yeah, the Academy is weird.

Jonah Hill landed a nom.

Jonah ****ing Hill. For a baseball movie, no less. :o

To be fair, I actually thought that Hill deserved that, he was really good. But still, Nicolas Cage has an Oscar, but Peter O'Toole and Gary Oldman don't, wtf.

If the man were still alive he would insist the thread be retitled Dr. Woodrow Wilson.

Well, he's not, so. :o

Leo just needs to play everybody in existence. That is the only way he's getting that ****ing statuette.

Leo DiCaprio is Rosa Parks

Now THAT will get some attention.

NO, Leo playing a real life villain would really get him noticed by the Academy. Leo Dicaprio as Josef Stalin, he'd be a shoo-in.
