This is so sad, it's funny. This person wrote a 'beginner's guide' to Les Miserables for newbies, but gets nearly all of his facts wrong.

As we all know, Steven Sondheim's Les Miserables made its debut in Hollywood, California, and was lauded for being the first musical to feature roller skating. It ran into some controversy over its satire of the Mormon religion, but earned a loyal following with its many hit songs like "Defying Gravity," "Soon It's Gonna Rain" and "The Internet is for Porn."

Have I mentioned lately how excited I am for this movie? :oldrazz:

:lmao:

By the way...it was 23 years ago tonight that I saw Les Mis on Broadway for the first time. :woot:

Not the big one of 1789, nor even the big "Second Revolution" of 1848.

It's based on the relatively small "June Rebellion" in 1832. I guess Victor Hugo felt it was intimate enough that he could get his hands around the whole thing.

ah, I see. so it's takes place during a French revolution, just not THE French Revolution. :cwink:

So...I found out tonight that my home theatre has secured the rights to perform the full version of Les Miserables in 2013. We'll be the first theatre in the area to do so.

Nice.

Golden Globe nominations: Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, "Suddenly" and the picture itself in the musical/comedy category got nominations. Not too good.

Why does nothing make you happy?

It got 4 nominations. That's great.

The only surprise is Hooper missing. Supporting was very competitive with a lot of possibilities so not surprising. Some say if Hooper doesn't get a DGA nom that's not too good for BP Oscar possibilities.

And the Golden Globes TV spot is up:

I'd say it again. For those who were wondering about the so-called themes of Dark Knight Rises just watch this movie instead. It tells it better. :yay:

I had no idea Gavroch was a Bane-esque populist villain here to impose a military dictatorship on Paris. Thanks for clearing that up, it makes so much more sense now! :oldrazz:

I kid.

Ha ha! :oldrazz:

Nobody knows what they're fighting for anymore, except those who are truly suffering.

Strangely enough, the Les Miz character who is most similar to Batman is probably Javert.

Hugh visits Russell on the set of Winter's Bone:

Congratulations to Hugh and Anne for nominated for the Golden Globes....

I was expecting more nominations but I guess three nominations is better than none.

Although the song choice "Suddenly" totally caught me off guard, I was expecting other songs to be nominated instead.

"Suddenly" is the only original song in the movie, and therefore the only song eligible for nomination

They got 4 nominations - Best Picture Musical/Comedy, Best Actor Musical/Comedy, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Song.

And like Lotus already said - "Suddenly" is the only eligible song.

Anne Hathaway has already been nominated for more awards than she was for her role in Rachel Getting Married.

Samantha Barks also has ten nominations.
