Les Miserables: One Thread More!

Actually, Javert has more in common with Batman I think. :woot:

Hugh deserves to, honestly
Wholeheartedly agree. I knew the man could sing, but there were times he took my breath away. DDL i knew would be incredible, and he was. Two fine, fine performances.

I'll be rooting for the aussies at the Academy Awards: Hugh and Watts :woot:

Agreed. I finally saw Lincoln tonight, and DDL was incredible (as I expected him to be), and it will certainly be well-deserved if he (probably) wins it...but damn, I would be happy to see Hugh win the thing. He was honestly just as deserving, as far as I'm concerned.

Btw, Ian McKellen congratulated Hugh, via Twitter:

Don't trust him, Hugh! He'll just rip out your skeleton again!

You shall not pass - but Hugh shall....pass! :funny:

Menounos' laugh is annoying.

Hugh is a cool laidback guy though.

saw the movie today and i thought it was a good movie i am not a person who watches musicals and for me to like one is a miracle but since i saw the liam neeson film first i like that one more

I saw it today, the glorious opening shot sweeps you straight into Jean Val Jeans story and the film never lets up from there and I thought the transitions through the time-frame worked really well.

I am not really someone who knows enough about singing to judge but for me Anne Hathaway and Samantha Barks were the stand outs, Eponine was definitely my favourite character and I felt for her the most. Fantine's treatment was hard to watch and much like Anne's performance in Rachel getting married she strips away the glamour and delivers the pain, the role is much shorter than I thought it would be but her performance of "I Dreamed a dream" will bag her that golden baldie.

I thought Hugh had some good moments and had some of the most difficult pieces to sing that he seemed out of his range, but his performance overshadowed any vocal issues as he poured every drop of emotion into the role whether it was his angry determination as he ripped up the parole form (My favourite scene in the film) or is conflict when wondering whether to turn himself in, I believed every moment.

Crowe clearly struggled at times but there was a gruff honesty about his delivery and I enjoyed his Javert, a strange character that manages to be a stubborn hater and a soulful solider of regret.

I didn't carer much for Borat and HBC's roles though, they were ok in them but the cartoonish characters felt like they belonged in another movie, I also found myself not really getting into the whole love at first sight thing with the barricade boy and Cosette.

I'm not really a musicals guy and there some periods where I felt things dragged a little, but overall it's an epic story that has an intimate center, with fantastic performances from the leads that dare you not to feel for them.

7.5/10

I can think of several people on YouTube who would do that.

Using the scene where he stands on the tumbler no doubt.

I wish there was a easter egg like in "Spider-man 2" when Alfred Molina sang "If I were a rich man"

Hardy/Bane: You have been supplied with a false idol [tears up picture] to stop you tearing down this CORRUPT CITY! Let me tell you the truth about Harvey Dent from the words of Gotham's police commissioner, James Gordon. [reads text of speech]

There, out in the darkness
A fugitive running
Fallen from God
Fallen from grace
God be my witness
I never shall yield
Till we come face to face
Till we come face to face

Dammit that actually works!

And Bale sings "I dreamed a dream" before Alfred brings down his breakfast to the batcave.

The prisoners released from Blackgate sing "Can You Hear the People Sing" over a montage of looting rich Gothamites.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this, and I'm not the type to like musicals. Maybe it's because how much the promotion focused on Hathaway's I Dreamed I Dream, but I was more moved by Eponine's and Marius' final number.

Jackman was brilliant, and I'll be rooting for him at the Oscars (I've seen The Master, not Lincoln though).
