Just got back from the film. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Gave it a solid 8. Would have given it a 8.5 or 9 if not for Jean Grey. She was annoying in the film. The second and last time she appeared in the film the audience I was with gave a huge groan because she was not needed in the movie at all. Hugh Jackman is the man and he OWNS the role. Much better than that piece of garbage Xmen Origins: Wolverine.

Cinemark needs to do that as well.

I think the Jean moments worked really well and she was great in the part, getting to see inside Logans head was fantastic and that final scene where he finally lets go was so fitting.

I guess not everyones a Jean fan though:woot:

Jean's role in the movie works. However I didn't care much for it because personally I never got the whole Wolverine/Jean relationship. It always felt forced to me in the originally trilogy. Wolverine loving her enough to be this distraught over her death always left me confused cause I never bought it.

I absolutely loved this movie. It's easily the best X-Men movie IMO. This movie proved to me that First Class wasn't just Fox getting lucky, Fox knows what theyre doing with X-Men now. DOFP has risen to be one of my most anticipated movies now & I hope this quality extends to FF.

There were a ton of moments where I was like "Now THIS is Wolverine!", something I havent felt before. I don't get the complaints about the third act though, I think it flowed perfectly with the plot of the movie & was pretty intense. Plus, I loved Silver Samurai's design.

AMC Stubs Card ($12 yearly subscription) tallys up every dollar you spend there, no limits. You get free upgrades on popcorn and soda. Any AMC ticket purchased online gets the 'convenince fee' waived. Since Poni Boy bought 20 tickets he probably saved like $25 from buying online. Lastly, for every $100 you spend you get $10 in credits to use.

So for people that go to the movies a lot that $12 is well worth it, especially if a single account is used among family/friends.

Yup. Plus it pays for itself because renewals are only $8. You'll easily have that much credit after a year at the movies even if you're only going once a month.

Seriously, it's the smartest thing they could have done. Not sure why Regal doesn't have something similar.

That sounds awesome, why don't we get those in the UK?! :csad:

More I think about it, the more it's edging its way to the top for me. I'm gonna have to watch it again mind.

X2, First Class, The Wolverine is how I rank it so far.

I liked the third act as well. I was a little wary not from the reviews, but further back to the trailers as to how that last fight would come across and what would be behind it. I guess it's kind of like with Batman Begins and The Prestige where people complained about the third act in those films as well for changing things up but it's possible a turn like that can work for me.

Finally will see it tonight. My review will come tomorrow.

Watched it with a buddy of mine who is a huge fan of Wolverine and I loved the film, was thoroughly surprised that Fox and James Mangold made the most badass Wolverine film I've ever seen. The only knock is that the 3rd Act got kind of silly when SS is introduced and that I couldn't possibly care less about Viper (her motives aren't really that clear, or I missed the point).

All I can say is, I wasn't looking forward to any X-Men films because of the sour taste of X3, Wolverine has officially made me hyped for Days of Future Past.

Pros
- Best Wolverine Portrayal to date - all thanks to Hugh Jackman and the dedication he shows
- 1st and 2nd act are some of the strongest storytelling I've ever seen
- Yukio and Mariko were compelling characters, never expected to like them as much as I did

Cons
- 3rd Act was a bit wonky
- That's about it...really strong movie overall.

I thought it was way better than Origins, but merely good, not great.

The title of this review thread should have "not necessary to say its better than Origins, that's a given".

Yeah this puts XMO:W to shame. Jackman delivers his best performance as Logan to date. This was just such a fun movie, and a great tribute to the Miller/Claremont work on which it paid homage. This is basically all your favorite Clint Eastwood westerns wrapped up in a comic book movie.

I thought the changes to Silver Samurai suited the story well, although I didn't find Viper very compelling. There was just a lot of fun action and a lot more introspective moments that they tried to do in XMO, but fell flat, but absolutely shine here.

Despite my wish that all Marvel properties go back to Marvel Studios, if this is the kind of work that Fox can do, and can avoid any futer XMO type stories, or Fantastic Four, they've earned the rights to make more of these films.

During the Shingen fight, there was a part where Shingen slices his sword right through Logan's mid section, and should have cut him in half but all you hear is his healing factor kicking in as he's healing. In the theater i saw it in it was real dark, so i couldn't actually see the strike or the wound heal. Was that how it was shot?

Chances are it was shot like that. Big portion of the battle was shot in shadows and such showing just how gruesome the fight was but not actually showing anything. This movie was pushing the PG13 rating quite a bit.

Yeah, especially with all the profanity. I guess it's going to be a Wolverine standard now that he tells someone to go f' themselves.

I'm also glad they mentioned that he doesn't like flying like in XOW. I don't recall that fear in OT.

Just saw it. I'd give it a 9 out of ten. Really got wolverine right and jackman was fantastic. There was some really heavy stuff in this! Some things were pretty cringe inducing. Great set up for the next film too. I'd rank the x-men films
Wolverine
X2
First Class
X3
X-men
Origins

Well...maybe not pissed off, just indifference or 'meh' reaction by the general audience.

It's just as bad as pissed off reaction because it'll kill the anticipation for the next installments just as good.

Or, you know, actually like it.

Plenty of "general audience" people actually like the movie.

For me it's the third best X- Men movie. But I give Wolverine a solid 8.5/10. My ranking for the x-men movies is as follows

X- Men First Class

X- Men 2

Wolverine

X-Men 1

X-Men 3

Origins

It's mentioned in X2 and even real slightly in X-Men.

To me, I only give 10/10 to films that I really can't think of a substantial way to make them better. The Wolverine qualifies in my book.

10/10

If there's one major element that truly sets this picture apart from any other standard "solid" comic book movie is the way through which the director communicates the experience of being Wolverine. His healing factor and the idea of out-living everyone you know is daunting and depressing. Finding purpose after facing true vulnerability adds so much to the character and FAR more than we’ve seen before. Tremendous visual and emotional imagery is presented throughout the movie and provides the viewer with greater insight into the hero and even the villains. This one screams quality from the opening through the intense final act. I’ve seen it mentioned that the resolution deviates from the comic books but I honestly couldn’t care less. What hits the screen more then works in movie form.

In fact, I think movie fans of all kind will be stunned at how many levels this movie delivers upon. This is an action packed but surprisingly deep film that, for me, really delivers. The Wolverine will leave your movie-going senses on high and I honestly can’t wait to see it again.

I enjoyed The Wolverine a lot, and while close to the story, it doesn’t handcuff itself 100% to the storyline.

The character that they truly screw up is the Silver Samurai. My biggest gripe with Fox controlling the franchise is the way they mess with all of the characters. A robotic suit? Really? Silver Samuari is supposed to be an even match for Logan. While Will Yun Lee did good in his role, Harada was wasted, as they basically busted an Iron Man 3 here. Despite it being big,
I liked the design, but Harada should’ve been in that suit, not Yashida!
If I had to rank the movies:

X2
X-Men
The Wolverine
Last Stand
Origins

I still need to see First Class though.

Did anyone notice that Hugh Jackman's vice seemed more gruff and deeper? Did he do that himself or did they alter it in post?

I also loved the little things like using Logan's tone and vocabulary. Not just the cursing but the use of "bub," "princess," darlin'" and even "Yuk" once when talking to Yukio.
