Well, after many requests over the years, the long-awaited Soul-Glo Experience has returned! This is a corner of Community where peeps can discuss Hip Hop Culture and its affect on your life and America's mainstream.

Do you listen to Hip Hop or R&B Music? Do you have fond memories of TV comedies i.e. The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air ? Do you think that America is a more culturally tolerant country now that Barak Obama is POTUS? If you have thoughts on these matters, then this is the place for you!

Here is just a sampling of some of the categories that we will explore...

Soul-Glo is back?! Hooray!

Has anyone read I'd Rather We Got Casinos by Larry Wilmore? Hilarious book. The first chapter won me over when he suggested black Americans rebrand ourselves by changing our title from "African American" to "Chocolate." Nobody gets offended when you call them Chocolate. The mayor of New Orleans once referred to his city as "Chocolate City." You can use it internationally, as black people from different countries are just "different flavors" of Chocolate. I embarrassed myself by laughing like a jackass as I read the book in public.

And I'll be honest. I'm gonna start using the term "Chocolate" in real life.

Um...me no likey. I am only half African American. My father is German. So....I'm not exactly chocolate. I'm more...cafe lattee with a lot of creme in the mix. LOL :o

Anyway, what is the beef going on between Mariah Carey and Eminem? I heard something about it on the radio but only got the tail end of it. Something about her latest video is a diss on him? I thought that rapper beefs on wax got played out in like...the '90s???

I'll spread it around. I was never to fond of the term African-American seeing as all black people are not from Africa.

In a latter chapter of the book, he comes up with terms to describe different types of Chocolate.

Half Black/White - Chocolate Milk
(not to be confused with...)
Black & Light Skinned - Milk Chocolate
(there's also...)
Black & Dark Skinned - Dark Chocolate
Part Black/Multiple Races - Whitman's Sampler

He had specific definitions for Caramel and Cafe Au Lait, but I'll have to grab the book to look them up again.

Anyway, if your dad is German, you can easily call yourself (wait for it...) German Chocolate.

:lmao: That...was woeful.

Hehe nice thread. It's time to fill it up so silky smooth in this bad boy.:oldrazz:

Considering that my nickname in high school was Sexual Chocolate, I wouldn't mind being called chocolate again.:woot:

The Belgiums and Swiss make a far superior chocolate than the Germans.

The German chocolates are so full of spite and ze angerz.

Since this is a Soul Glo thread, I think we need to use it's power to erase one of the biggest frauds in American history. We as Soul Glowers need to let people know the truth........that truth is that Joe Louis was 137 years old when he fought Rocky Marciano.

My life is incredibly touched by Hip Hop culture, seeing as how I grew up around nothing but Hispanics, Asians, and Blacks, in a very urban area, so I already grew up around Hip Hop culture.

So while people may see me as a white boy wearing Hip Hop clothes, and be quick to judge me as a "******", I assure you that I actually come from that culture.

I also know that I am no thug, and dressing in Sean John and Rocawear does not make me "hard" - I just enjoy that particular style of fashion.

Do you believe your background has influenced your view on interracial relationships? Would your family have a problem if you brought a woman of color home?

Wow! I never knew you were a white dude!

I can tell you 100% for sure and for certain that my family would have zero problems with me bringing home a girl outside of my race.

And I'm sure that my background has had a very heavy influence on my view of interracial relationships.

It's a very common viewpoint that the "girl next door" is a nice, pretty blonde white girl. Well for me, the pretty white girl is exotic. The girl next door for me is the dark haired Mexican girl, or the kinda nerdy Asian girl with glasses. To me, growing up, it was pretty much an expectation that I was probably going to end up with a Hispanic girl or something.

I've only had one girlfriend that was white. Most of the girls that I've dated were Asian, to be honest. Gone out with a couple Hispanic girls. My high school girlfriend was black.

It's only been within the last few years that white girls have become any kind of actual option for me, especially the last year and a half since I'm living in a completely new location now.

Really? I've posted quite a few pictures of myself on here, and have mentioned my ethnicity a few times.

I'm surprised it's still a shock to people the revelation that I'm white, lol.

Nell just has negro tendencies. We let him in the club a while back.

It's the "Nell2ThatIzzaaaaaaay" that throws people off.

So are you not living in an urban area now? I've dated outside my race too but only in recent years. Interestingly enough, all of the white individuals I've been involved with I met in corporate circles, are extremely educated, and yet have urban sensibilities if you know what I mean. For example, my ex was a lawyer, but yet he bumped the hardest rap you could think of in his jeep. I swear he used urban slang tougher than the people on my mom's side of my family! Even the way he cussed was street...HOWEVER, when he got around white folks (i.e. his family etc.,) though, he knew how to talk the talk and walk the walk. All of his ebonics dissapeared. It was weird.

He grew up in the city and got an extensive college education. Yet, even though he was making six figures a year and moved up into an all-white affluent suburban neighborhood, his interests remained totally street. He'd rather watch "The Jeffersons" over "4400". Even his haircut and stache/goatee were styled like "a brovahz". LOL A total oxymoron of a man if there ever was one.

But that's the case with a lot of people today. Hip Hop has really crossed all the gender and color lines. I wonder how much of that has impacted the country in terms of electing Barack Obama? I don't think he could've become POTUS if it hadn't been for the influx of urban culture in America.

She made that stupid video, and he responded with a diss of his own. I think I'd get banned for posting it here, so look it up on youtube- it's hilarious. She's pretending that they didn't have sex, when he has quite a lot of evidence that they did...he also claims he has compromising pictures of her.

<~ 1st non-black (chocolate?) guy to post in here!
First white woman to post in here!!! (I win :o)

If I didn't know you and if I were a black woman I'd... umm...

well... if I were a black woman I'd probably never be able to leave my apartment that has lots of mirrors.
