Iron Man 2 script & Avengers casting news

Louis Leterrier says new Avenger will feature in Iron Man 2 and Jackson, Downey and Norton set for Avengers in 2011

Louis Leterrier has revealed not only that Jon Favreau is currently writing Iron Man 2 with Robert Downey Jr., but that the sequel to the Spring blockbuster will feature a new character from the Avengers, after the brief appearance by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in the post-credits sequence of Iron Man.

Additionally Leterrier is reported to have said that 2011 will definitely bring Jackson, Downey Jr., Hulk actor Ed Norton and two other 'A-list actors' - presumably whichever A-listers get cast as Thor and Captain America in their respective upcoming movies that Marvel is also producing - together for the Avengers movie.

DoG source 'Mr Miyagi' spoke with Leterrier - who had just come from a meeting with Iron Man director Jon Favreau - at the Marvel Night at the Grand Rex in Paris in early July.

Current expected release dates are Iron Man 2 in 2010, Thor is pencilled in for 2010, Avengers in 2011 while The First Avenger: Captain America is due in May 2011 too.

Cool, hopefully this bodes well for a TIH sequel as well.

THANK YOU LORD!!!!!!!

Or better yet... thank you Marvel studios... :woot:

So any guess who the new character is? HAS TO BE either Hawykeye or Black Widow... give me Black Widow.

What about Ant Man/Giant Man and Wasp.

Other than that I'm extremely happy

OMFG awesome and the news of a possible sequel for the HULK is also good news. Marvell better not be teasing.

FINALLY SOME GOOD NEWS!!!

I'm purposefully trying not to hype my self up for this Avengers film because its so far away. But every time I think about it I get goosebumps. This film has the potential to be insanely awesome, just to imagine all these Icons on screen at the same time is heart attack inducing.

By the way you guys realize that the marketing for this movie has already begun unofficially right? Iron Man, Hulk and the two movies to come are like marketing tools keeping the movie fresh in our minds lol.

I'm actually beginning to wonder if TDK can hold on to its records when this movie comes out. It is certainly something to be seen. Let's wait and see.

While I have no hope Avengers is going to be an Empire Strikes Back/Dark Knight film... it's going to be possibly the most eye-popping, entertaining (action/comedy/drama) summer block buster of all time. But no sense hyping it up now itself. At the end of the day it's a summer popcorn. Let's not repeat our mistakes like we did with X-3 and SM3.

Another bit of good news (to me that is) is that TIH opens today in my country so I will finally be able to see it on the BIG screen. I also looking forward to seeing TDK whenever it comes out. I enjoyed BB so I believe I will also like this new one also.

I think Avengers would be massive...if Marvel gives Thor and Capt the A-list treatment...Avengers would be an anticipated movie beyond all belief!

niiiiiice. I bet they're all going t be f****** amazing...hopefully

Of course, this is all still just rumor territory.

Very true.

In that Leterrier interview where he said he didn't think there would be a TIH sequel cos of how the film peformed at the box office he said that Hulk would be in The Avengers but wasn't sure if Norton was signed up.

I would be shocked if Norton came back for an Avengers movie. He wouldn't be able to controll the production.

Say if TIH does have a sequel for say like 2012 and Avengers comes out in 2011, Marvel could start filming for TIH2 and Avengers at the same time in 2010. Banner doesn't have to be in every single scene in the Avengers so while Norton films for TIH2 he also does some scenes for The Avengers with Marvel giving him a huge pay check and letting him write the entire script for TIH2 and this time letting him and Leterrier put out a cut they are both happy with, with no studio interference similar to how WB/DC gave Nolan complete control for TDK. So TIH2 films in 2010 and comes out in 2012, allowing the film to be in post production for almost a year if not a couple months more which will let the CGI guys more time to work and on the whole deliver a quality product.

I'm not sure if it would be expensive to for Marvel to have TIH2 and The Avengers film at the same time but it does make sense.

Well if they center the film around the Hulk for at least a good half of the film... considering he is like the second or third most popular hero in the film... then Norton may be given that creative input at least on his character for that portion of the script. No guarantees that Marvel will get those "ego first" mega star names to round out the roster so if RDJ and Norton are the only "A" listers you can let those guys have the most creative input.

Hear hear.

I'm skeptical about those release dates, but, hopefully they'll make their deadlines,...

Damn,...2010/2011.

Makes more sense to film Cap and Avengers back to back. Not TIH 2 and Avengers.
