FOX has handed out a put-pilot commitment for a Lethal Weapon reboot series from Warner Bros. Television, says The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros. Pictures produced the original movies starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.

According to the trade, “the TV version centers on a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs (originally played by Gibson) who, following the loss of his wife and baby, moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Glover), who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.”

The FOX pilot will be written by Matt Miller (“Forever,” “Chuck”), who will executive produce via his Good Session production company. Lin Pictures’ Dan Lin (The LEGO Movie, Suicide Squad) and Jennifer Gwartz are exectuve producing.

THR says that, although the original filmmakers will not be involved and won’t be credited on the drama, they have blessed the Lethal Weapon reboot.

The original film hit theaters in 1987 and was followed by three sequels in 1989, 1992 and 1998.

Probably a better idea than trying to reboot it as a movie franchise.

But with it being on FOX, it stands almost no chance to make it past the first season.

HA! I knew it was only a matter of time.

If this was on a channel like FX or AMC I would have been interested, but I'll pass. This show is gonna likely gonna be another dull cop procedural.

Everyone I think knew it was a matter of time but not a lot of us were expecting it as a television series.

I made a post a few months back (I forget which thread it was in) where I talked about a Lethal Weapon TV series having awesome potential. I think Soapy said a couple of characters in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia had done something along those lines. With series like Fargo, Limitless and others coming along, Lethal Weapon seemed like a natural choice to carry a more serialized format as well.

It's Always Sunny did do a spoof of it and it was awesome.

I want them to do the "You really are crazy!" scene justice.

With all the buddy cop remakes, we just may get a TV version of Tango and Cash or Turner and Hooch.

This literally sounds like the worst possible way to continue Lethal Weapon.

Surprising choice. He'll have some big shoes to fill, imo. This will also be the second character he'll play that was created by Shane Black. The other role was Jimmy Diggs from "The Last Boy Scout".

I wonder if she will have the same obsession with him as the doctor in the original movies did.

The paycheck between Fast Furious paycheck's for Jordana!

nothing about this excites me in the least...

Never heard of the guy and that hair... what the hell? Obviously they will fix that for the series but wtf?
