I saw these on another board

http://www.dumpalink.com/media/1148140929/The_Best_Way_To_Bust_A_Pedophile

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh7LOwnPfAk

the thread was entitled - Pedophile gets pwned

The responses are just what you might expect

"The cops were wating outside for his sick ass.

OT: A cat?

I'm glad this sick bastard is off the streets." etc.

Now what's wrong with that you ask?

Well it got me thinking about what happened in some parts of Britain when " The News Of The World" started a "name and shame" campaign, where they published the names and adresses of convicted paedophiles?

The unwashed went insane. There were large protests some tured into riots outside the homes of those thought to be paedophiles. But often, completely innocent people were being attacked and forced out their homes after being mistaken for paedophiles/relatives of paedophiles, those not actually forced out still had thier cars and houses vandalised.

A Portsmouth paediatrician was forced out of her home when it was vandalised by a mob who got her title confused with paedophile. And a 14 year-old was killed when a petrol bomb was thrown through a window. :(

While many of those attacked were innocent, a lot of real paedophiles went underground where they couldn't be monitored, and others escaped the country.

It's better for sex offenders to be known to the authorities only so they can be monitored.
If people (especially parents) find out about sex offenders living in their area, all hell can break loose.
Sex offenders have to live somewhere and if people know where they are they will be forced into hiding.

It's best the authoritys and not the media deal with this sort of thing.

Chris Morris produced a controversial episode of Brass Eye highlighting this type of "Moral Panic" (For more on Moral panics see Cohen "Moral Panics and Folk Devils").

Dateline is just promoting the myth perverts are everywhere in my opinion and creating a climate of fear that will drive perverts underground and cause the Innocent to be harmed. Why don't these childrens parents monitor the sites their kids use. When mine are old enough I will.

Thoughts?

pedophilia is a pretty despicable crime. One that should get you locked away for a LONG time. But I do agree all of the Dateline specials, where Stone Phillips jumps out from behind the sofa and asks these guys why they want to "bang young girls" are getting a bit ridiculous. Everyone is doing them now, and a lot of them are bordering on entrapment. It'd be different if a real girl complained and they set up the sting, but these people on the shows pretend to be kids and actively seek these guys out.

I also agree that there whereabouts should only be known to the police, not John Q. Public. However that's a real gray area since people believe they have a right to know. Then again, they dont tell you where former murderers live, so I'm not sure why this should be different.

exactly.

I swear if I see one more Pedophiles on Myspace news story ill shoot someone.

The FBI has created a sting where there's a website where they can sign up to visit countries such as Guatemala and Vietnam to sleep with underage girls.

Lets not talk about them. They are the scum of the Earth.

I wonder if on some Pedophile member's board, there has beena thread started called

'Let's talk about Comicbook geeks'

and there is a pedophile version of myself writing a bizzaro version of this post (except for he wouldn't know what bizzaro meant as a word)

You'll see a lot of those, it's where they hang out.

Pedophiles deserve to die horribly. End of discussion.

It's not entrapment, those idiots knew what they doing is wrong(and illegal!)but they don't care and I wish they do a sting on girls, I damn well know some girls who go online to search for guys for sex when they are 12 and a few times younger.

That chick they use to sound like a teenage boy sounds sexy when she's talking to 'em.:(

I was talking about in a legal sense. Entrapment is causing someone to commit a crime they normally wouldnt be predisposed to commit. In some people's opinions, things like this are no different, than a "hooker" coming up to a guy in a bar, offering him sex, and him accepting, and then getting arrested for it. Plenty of those guys have gotten off based on entrapment rulings.

The whole point of the pedophile stings should be to catch the guys who are going after kids online. Not to have the "kids" go after guys online, and see if they bite. In the latter case, you're going to pull in a lot of people who would never have been predisposed to do so, had they not been propositioned.

Not saying I agree with that, just putting that out there.

I've always likened MySpace to that river full of salmon swimming up stream in Alaska, and the pedos to the grizzly bears picking them off one by one. That place creeps me out, and dont even get me started on the emo's there....;)

Those that you said 'bait' the guys DO NOT talk about sex or anything, they wait for him to talk about it. I've been in chat rooms and see guys hit on girls that are really clueless, especially those that are deaf and alot of them were pretty frank about their chats(the guys although I seen some girls talk about sex that made me blushed) I would never say anything like that to a kid face and those that do should be ashamed and locked up

Nope. I've had several underaged girls after me, and unlike these guys (text on the internet), one of 'em was just standing there alone with me and took her shirt off.
I turned her down not only because I was afraid of ending up in jail (although still a huge factor), but also because her youth and youthful stupidity/naivete was a huge turn-off. She seemed like a little kid. It was gross.
There's something wrong with you if you take 'em up on it. My roommate ended up taking her up on it (literally, har har) and he is f***ed up. And, sure enough, just like out of a crappy movie, when he got tired of her/dumped her, suddenly she thought she might be pregnant and might have to tell her parents.

If a cop doesn't just stand on the corner posing as a drug dealer, but actually advertises the fact that he's got crack for sale on the internet while chatting with me, why on Earth would I go, "Hmmm, I would never ever really try crack, but, man, it's SO tempting right now.

On those stings, first of all, most of the guys have been caught doing it before and admit that they're sick, horrible people.
Also, this isn't a case where it's some mega-hot 17.5 year old who looks 20.
They are always SUPER clear about the "fact" that the "kid" is like 14. If you have sympahty for a 45 year old man who's really tempted to take the virginity of a 14 year old, then that's scary in itself.

One old guy even asked if the girl had any pubic hair and when she said "only a little", he said, "That's terribly sexy."
But he KNEW he was talking to, like a 13 year old or something.
