TRAILERMANIA (6/15/08)

Wow, I was psyched and surprised to see the trailer, I had no clue it was coming out so early.

I’m also blown away that there is such a huge reaction to it. The good, the bad, I love it all. I’ve been getting emails
from all over the world and heard from friends I’ve known in the Karate and Kickboxing circuit whom I haven’t spoken
to in years. I’m starting to realize how huge The Punisher fan base is.

I’m not sure what kind of impression I would get from this trailer if I didn’t actually know the film. I am utterly impressed,
though, they managed to find that much PG rated action footage at all. It had to be a challenge to cut a trailer from our
action stuff without showing any gore and blood.

I’ve been told that you can’t even show heads blowing up in red-band trailers. I hope that’s not true because that would
suck. It’s weird to see Castle shoot all those bullets and not see the thugs who are catching them. That’s the best
****ing part about it!!!

I’m very happy that the hardcore Punisher fans recognized the lines taken directly from the comic books (all credit goes
to Ray Stevenson for that), and that MAX fans appreciated the color theme that was also directly copied from the books.

Yes …don’t expect this Punisher to be set in an ultra-realistic world. Every director has to make a call on the vision
and style of a film and putting The Punisher in a realistic and gritty setting would be like having Det. Vic Mackey of
THE SHIELD run around with a big ass skull on his chest, or Ray Liotta’s character in NARC suddenly go: “Hey, I think
I just saw a guy whose face looks like a Jigsaw puzzle.” Ha, ha.

Real crime stories and comic books are two different worlds for me. It was my first priority to please The Punisher comic
book fans and with all the respect to two wonderful actors, I wasn’t trying to become a member of the Dolph Lundgren or
Thomas Jane fan club. This film is about the mythology of FRANK CASTLE, it is ultra violent and it will look not a little,
but a lot like this:

I’ve been reading some of the boards out there and I want to give a shout out to the loyal, excited and trusting fans who
have been trying to shut up the haters & trolls in the most hilarious way. Being a little Hooligan girl myself, I’m a sucker
for anybody who fights for their firm (gang) and stands up for a cause. I also need to thank the haters because it is
indifference that would be the real nightmare.

I just saw THE INCREDIBLE HULK and I really, really loved it. Ed Norton rocks and Louis Leterrier did an excellent job
with action, style, pace and everything. If the hate they received for their first trailer is an indication to how well that film
turned out in the end, hell…I want more hate!

So long mates!
Lexi

She seems to be big into scanning pictures from the comic books.

She's got a great attitude. I love how the director of this movie has such spunk.

I know.

Also, I really gotta disagree with the whole Shield and Narc comments.

I'm one of the fans who had try to shut up the haters...:whatever:

I just want to make it clear before anyone asks, that not all people who support this movie talk like that.

Folks on these boards are way too serious, always trying to be cool and say the right thing. It was a joke, a lame one but so what :whatever:

Yeah Lexi keep on kicking! The teaser already had some great moments and I'm sure that there's a lot more to come! We ain't seen nothing yet!

I'm sure Lexi and the crew will deliver.

The perfect Punisher movie? Well, only time will tell.

Easily the best Punisher movie to date? No doubt about that one.

BTW, how about some nice gifs from the teaser hmmm??

One teaser trailer and she feels like she's top of the world. I don't care how spunky or how much a backbone she has; the lighting was good, the action was good, but Stevenson's acting was full of monotony and I felt they tried too hard with the "God" line because it seemed like she was trying to copy the "God's going to sit this one out..." line from the 04' film.

It's one thing to have gore and blood but it's another to have story too. Hope she remembers that.

I respect Lexi and Ray for wanting to bring a fresh and more authentic Punisher to us. Lets face FACTS, Thomas Jane didn't exactly deliver a note worthy punisher flick. The movie was received poorly and yet people want to consider it like its a classic. People already hating this movie because they don't want it to suceed or can't stand to see Ray fill Jane's shoes. What more can you ask from what they're doing with this movie. Yo want a higher body count, darker and grittier feel, and its more authentic to the source. People are just going to complain out everything. Just face it, you just can't please everyone.

There's a story to WAR ZONE. It's not just an hour and a half of gunfights. The "God" line is right out of the MAX comics, if I remember correctly, and relevant to Castle's character. And Frank Castle's lack of faith is an ongoing theme. It's like whining if he uses the word "punishment" in several different films.

I guess she isn't shying away from having the Punisher spinning around on chandeliers. Oh well. If it's two hours of that, ugh. But I can definately deal with stuff like that if it's in moderation.

And it's kind of nice to see she actually visits Punisher message boards (or has someone else do it and sum things up). So... who does everyone think Lexi Alexander is on this board? My vote, Punisher_04.

Finally, an update. Punisher related, too.

Nonetheless, that an was excellent read. I was shocked that she didn't even know about the trailer, though...

I felt they tried too hard with the "God" line because it seemed like she was trying to copy the "God's going to sit this one out..." line from the 04' film.

The "Get my hands on God" line is from issue #2 of the Widowmaker arc. I believe that line was put in the trailer as a nod to fans of the comics, to show they respect and follow the source material. Lack of faithfulness to the comics, if I'm not mistaken, was one of the big reasons behind the negative reactions to the '89 and '04 films.

I don't doubt her enthusiasm to the movie. I just doubt some of the creative decisions on it. I stand by my statement of the color theme where what works in comics doesn't always work in movies. Hence why the X-Men wasn't wearing the yellow and blue spandex costumes from the comics. I've watched the trailer about 5 more times and it is growing on me some. I still hate Stevenson's voice in it. It just sounds so wooden and fake. I still don't like the chandelier scene either. This movie has a lot to prove to me and I'm not going to eat just anything that is given to me from Lexi, Ray and of course LGF.

by the sound of lexi's latest blog, it seems the teaser was just packed with all the "cool" moments in the movie, whereas the rest of it is going to be a lot more somber and violent. certainly hope so.

about the realism issue, the punisher has always been a vigilante within the marvel universe. it's only recently that max came about, took frank castle out of the 616 and placed him in more of a real world setting. for lexi to base her film entirely on the max series, while it would make for a badass flick, it'd be a smack in the face to any comics that were pre-max. i've been reading the punisher for some 15 years, so i think it's nice that this movie is a combination of lots of different stories and takes on the character. they did the same thing with 04, combining some year one stuff with marvel knights. the punisher has always been acrobatic, otherwise he wouldn't be able to go toe-to-toe with the likes of daredevil. hanging from a chandelier is a little too flashy, yeah, the max punisher wouldn't do it, but the 616 punisher probably would. do you really want to see a film where the punisher just walks up to people, shoots them, walks away, rinse and repeat, throughout the whole thing? that'd get boring in about 10 minutes, so i'm all for the theatrics.

I think the acrobatics works great in the old comics, but I just don't like it in the movies. I hate to say it, but I was hoping he would be more like Steven Seagal was in his first few movies. He was a straight up badass with the little he did. That's how I always pictured the Punisher. But I guess the ADD crowd doesn't want that in a movie.

Lexi cracks me the **** up. She instills me with hope for this.
From the sound of it, I think a redband trailer is on the way.

Eventually, yeah. But on the other hand, she said she had no idea a trailer was going to come out so soon, so she probably has no idea when a redband will show up.

Are the redband trailers usually released around the same time as the main greenband one, or is it completely separate?

I have no idea, but put yourself in her place: You make a movie you're proud of and you want to quell all the naysayers.
So I'd definitely say a redband is coming...hopefully soon. She's obviously already discussed it with whoever she's working with on these things.

I'd have to disagree. You can still make a realistic MAX universe on screen with subtle coloring while using old-school storylines like Circle of Blood, for instance.

Besides, Lexi hardly seems like the type to worry about appearing disrespectful or indifferent to the old-school. In almost every interview or blog that she talks about the comics, pretty much ALL she ever mentions is how much her movie is going to be like MAX and how genius Garth Ennis is. She and Ray could mention Steven Grant, Carl Potts, or Chuck Dixon. But all I've ever heard them talk about and give props to is Ennis and MAX.

Suprising that Micro and Jigsaw made it into the film. All things considered. I do agree with most of your post.

Though I'm not in love with this teaser, I'm really excited for this movie. No matter what, it'll still be the best and most faithful Punisher adaptation ever made. That counts for something.

Love the new movie skull and your avatar BTW.

I'm still optimistic about this, not because of lexi's post but because the trailer looked good...
