Ok I watched smallville season 1-3 and quite liked it. But I took a break untill recently untill I got hold of season 4 (I am loving it...best season so far imo).

I just saw an episode about nightmares coming true...and Lex's was excellent (especially the terminator esque soundtrack). But does anyone know what it was about specifically? I mean I know in the comics he was president or something, but why would he want to start a nuclear war?

I just need clarification on why he would start such a destructive war, as lex never seemed to be that kinda guy (at least from what I know of him in the show).

Its just a nightmare there is no reason to believe he is actually going to do it. It could also be a homage to Superman The Movie.

What was interesting about that dream was, that up to the point of the neuclar war was what the old women saw in her vision, meaning that Lex's worse nightmare is his future.

the nuculear missle thing was from the terminator 3 movie.

the show is set before he becomes "evil". Smallville is about how clark becomes a great hero and how Lex becomes a great Villain. i think it's surpose to show that he will evently kill alot of people in his quest for power. he becomes like an "anti-chirst" like character. There are a few more references to this later in Season 4 and 5. And to go a little off topic I love how they made Lex and Clark friends in smallville it makes there whole hero villain dynamic more interesting. IMO

i disagree i dont think lex is supposed to be an"anti christ" character. the anti-christ plays a very particular roll in bringing about armaggeddon, and thats not Lex's chaacter arc. if youre going to compare his arc to anyone it would be more akin to the devil before the fall.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but we have seen in Lex's nightmares/dreams/future, that he destroys the World.

Yeah I think all the characters in smallville are great....I never thought I would care about anything superman related till this show. Lex is my favourite because hes so conflicted he wants to be good but people keep showing him mistrust.

The irony where he turned his father's good intentions back into the old lionel was stunning.

But I know he turns evil, but he never seemed like a character for mass genocide...but then I never really followed the comics

Just read the "Up, Up and Away" story they just did, you'll see the genocidal Lex Luthor that would be willing to destroy the world.

It's within his future character. *Thinks fondly of "hourglass"*

Can I ask what he did or what he was willing to do?

I guess Im so used to seeing the goofy lex in the movies and lois and clark that I had trouble seeing him as the genocidal type since Im not incredibly familiar with the comics.

ah but you see, that not exactly what the antichrist does. the antichrist is a man, who is killed and resurrected and then empowered by satan. but during this whole thing he pretends to be the jewish messiah.

if youre going to draw parralells, they just dont match up. to compare lex to the antichrist just because hes tryign to destroy the world, well that could be tru of any number of villians in any number of mediums.

get what im saying?

the comic Up, Up, and Away is alot like the movie only he has like a War ship from Krypton. The TPB is coming out this week or next you should pick it up. Its very good after the CrisisSuperman ends up powerless and is gone for a year during that time in 52 you will see the Fall of Lex Luthor at the hands of Clark Kent. So Lex's being broke and an outcast sets in motion a plain to destory the city and latter the world. With the Crystal seen in the movies or Smallville he found Zod's ship (later to be talked about in Donner's and John run on Action Comics) He uses it to attack Metropolis. Superman's powers return during this time and so Superman returns just in time to stop Lex. Its a good read if your looking to get back into the comics again

The Lex in Smallville seems to try to do what's best for mankind no matter the price, even if that means doing some bad things along the way to accomplish that goal. So maybe Lex sets off nuclear bombs because in his mind that is what needs to be done in order to protect earth.

up, up, and away was great....

Lex was in the mindset that if the city was going to betray him, then he was going to destroy the city type thing...it was a well crafted and great story.:woot:

the best thing about there friendship was this line, when clark says something like "do you think anything could ever become between us" or something like that, and lex says something like "clark are friendship will be the stuff of legend" at the end of the episode with the 2 former business partners who could like control ppl by shaking there hand
