(for a second it seemed like he could be young Cyclops, but I doubt the crew would let open the possibity to take pics on there)

I think you're right that it's Dali - Nixon's dog Checkers was a cocker spaniel. I think Hugh has the dog and kids with him since his wife is traveling with President Clinton throughout Africa.
