Looks like we'll finally be getting a Gatchaman film since Imagi's CGI film had fell through a few years back. Looks promising, hopefully it'll make its way here in the U.S. In the meantime, check out the trailer

Looks interesting. I haven't got around to acquiring the DVD for Yamato yet either.

So they settled the debate whether Jinpei/Keyop is just a child or some sort of weird mutant.

Was this called Gatchaman in the US?

It depends on where, when and how you saw it. If you were a Gen Xer like me, you probably know it as G-Force or Battle of the Planets.

It was originally hacked up, dubbed and packaged as Battle of the Planets in the 70s. They ditched pretty much the entire original storyline and added stuff like 7-Zark-7 to fill the time.

Jinpei (Keyop) wasn't a computer-human cyborg in the original, he was just a regular kid with a very foul mouth.

It was released as Gatchaman in the US by ADV some years back and given a new English dub faithful to the original Japanese script.

It was originally released in the US as Battle of the Planets then G-Force and then Eagle Riders.

I think the later season of the show that became G-Force was never actually released unedited here, just Gatchaman.

G-Force it was for me in the 80's. I was really young and couldn't recall.

I was always a fan of the original series, the 90's OVA was ok. I need to watch that one again

I watched it as G-Force back on the old Toonami when Moltar was hosting.

Christ, it was only the other month that I was researching the death of Imagi's version [huge fan of Battle of the Planets and, to a lesser extent, the OVA]. I literally knew nothing of this project until I saw this thread (!). Look's awesome.

Interesting trailer. From what I can tell, it seems that there are only 4 members of the team at first, and that Jo/Jason joins the team later.

I also had no idea that Jo/Jason was actually of mixed race in the original cartoon too.

I can forgive the CG, but LORD, the cinematography looks awful.

costumes looks sweet, an the CGI looks great- as usual with Japanese trailers, the J-pop was very out of place.

J-Pop is always being used for the most inappropriate things.
